Man Rescues 20-Foot Python From Dumpster With Bare Hands, Says ‘I Feel Honoured'

The man claimed the snake, whom he named 'Apples,' was abandoned in a small bin inside the dumpster.
A heart-stopping video from Los Angeles shows a reptile expert rescuing a massive 20-foot python from a dumpster. Wearing his casual clothes without any safety gear, Joseph Hart climbed into the dumpster after locals spotted the giant snake near an apartment complex.
Known as 'Reptile Hunter" on social media, Hart approached the python, which was resting along the edge of the dumpster, and waited for the right moment. He then swiftly grabbed it just behind the head to prevent a bite. Once secured, he climbed out, allowing the massive snake to coil around him as stunned bystanders looked on.
He posted the video of the rescue on social media and expressed his excitement about the opportunity for 'some good old-fashioned reptile wrangling."
The Sad Reality Behind The Rescue
Hart revealed that the snake, whom he named 'Apples," was abandoned in a small bin inside the dumpster. He discovered that Apples was suffering from a serious mouth infection, a condition common in snakes kept as pets but often neglected.
He believes the previous owner was overwhelmed by the cost of treatment, saying, 'This breaks my heart because the previous owner was most likely overwhelmed with the idea of treating the medical condition, as vet bills can be pricey. But dumping or abandoning the animal is no solution either."
No Help From Authorities
Before Hart arrived, the police department, animal control and reptile rescue groups were notified, but none were willing to assist. Hart revealed, 'I was even told that the snake would have been 'put down'." His decision to step in made all the difference for Apples.
'I am so honoured to have had the opportunity to give Apples a second chance. She's strong, beautiful, and I can tell you right now, has the WILL TO LIVE!! Sometimes all we need is a second chance," he added.
Hart Hopes For A New Beginning
He thanked everyone who supported the rescue and reminded pet owners never to abandon their animals, even when things get tough.
'So to all pet owners, there may be times when our animals get sick, or we're simply overwhelmed with them. PLEASE do not commit animal cruelty or abandonment. There are people who can help," Hart wrote.
He further shared that Apples is on the path to recovery and is expected to live a long life as an educational animal.

Janmashtami 2025: Accidentally Broke Your Fast? Here's What You Can Do

Last Updated: Janmashtami 2025: If the fast is broken accidentally, devotees can seek Lord Krishna's forgiveness, perform rituals, and continue the fast to receive its spiritual benefits The auspicious occasion of Janmashtami is one of the most spiritually significant festivals in Hindu culture. In 2025, the Janmashtami fast will be observed on Saturday, August 16. According to tradition, Lord Krishna was born in Mathura during the Dwapar Yuga on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the Bhadrapad month, when the moon was in Taurus and the day was Wednesday. Devotees across the country celebrate the birth of Laddu Gopal at midnight, observing a fast that is traditionally broken after sunrise the following day. During the Janmashtami fast, devotees can consume fruits, milk, curd, and water, while eating regular meals is prohibited. However, questions often arise about what should be done if the fast is accidentally broken. Is it still possible to gain the spiritual benefits of the fast? Religious scriptures suggest that if a devotee unintentionally eats food or breaks the fast, sincere repentance and prayers for forgiveness are required. Experts advise that in such situations, devotees should purify themselves and sit before Lord Krishna to pray for forgiveness. Mantras such as ' Mantraheenam Kriyaheenam Bhaktiheenam Janardan Yatpujitam Maya Deva Paripoorna Tadastu Me," ' Om Shri Vishnuve Namah Kshama Yachana Samarpayami," or chanting ' Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay" at least five or eleven times using a Tulsi rosary are recommended. After praying, devotees should bow to Lord Krishna and request his mercy, acknowledging that the fast was broken unintentionally. Devotees can then choose to continue the Janmashtami fast. At midnight, the birth of Laddu Gopal is celebrated with rituals including bathing the idol with Panchamrit, offering Tulsi, butter, sugar candy, and Panjiri, performing Aarti, and distributing Prasad. Fruits from the Prasad can also be consumed by the devotee. The following morning, after taking a bath, devotees can perform Puja at home or in a Vishnu temple. Donations of yellow clothes, bananas, jaggery, gram, sugar candy, and gram flour laddus are encouraged. During this time, devotees should pray for the fulfilment of their wishes. Spiritual experts emphasise that Lord Krishna values the sincerity of devotees. If the apology is made with a pure heart and the fast is completed afterwards, the devotee's wish can still be fulfilled. This guidance is particularly intended for those who accidentally or unintentionally broke the Janmashtami fast, with no deliberate intent to violate the tradition. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. This system helps quickly reunite lost or stolen dogs with their owners and ensures every dog is tracked.
