Ex-KKR Star Slams Gautam Gambhir's Critics: 'Narratives Change Faster Than...'
Manvinder Bisla criticized social media fans for ignoring Gautam Gambhir's role in India's success in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, despite his contribution to the Edgbaston win.
Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player Manvinder Bisla has called out the hypocrisy of social media fans over head coach Gautam Gambhir's contribution to India's success in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Pointing at how Gambhir was criticized for India's loss at Headingley but not praised for the Edgbaston win, he said narratives were changing 'faster than the scorecard', and urged critics to include him in credits.
Gambhir stuck to the batting-depth-first formula at Headingley, despite it not working in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India again lacked support for Jasprit Bumrah as all-rounder Shardul Thakur wasn't used much while failing with the bat and succumbed to a five-wicket loss. Despite calls to include a wicket-taker in Kuldeep Yadav, the team doubled down on the plan and dropped specialist batter Sai Sudharsan as well.
The Edgbaston 11, with three pacers and two all-rounders, performed better than their English counterparts, with Akash Deep taking ten wickets and Mohammed Siraj seven. The batters contributed heavily to set up the win earlier, with Shubman Gill smashing 269 and 162 in the two innings. It ended in a 336-run win.
'Before the Test: @GautamGambhir messed up the XI. After the win: @ShubmanGill era begins. Narratives change faster than the scorecard. PS: Both are leaders — credit goes to whole team for this famous win. 🔥🇮🇳 #INDvsENGTest #famouswin #TeamIndia"
Bisla played under Gambhir's captaincy and KKR, between 2011-2014, scoring 89 off 48 balls against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final of the 2012 IPL to guide them to a 5-wicket win.
Gambhir has been under pressure ever since taking the job after winning IPL 2024 as KKR's mentor. Under him, India won a home series against Bangladesh but went on to lose the next two against New Zealand at home and Australia away, with the former being a humiliating first whitewash.
Gill, meanwhile, is the fifth youngest captain in India's Test history, filling not only the big shoes of Rohit Sharma but also Virat Kohli at number four. The remaining three Tests, starting at Lord's on Thursday, could determine where this new era of Indian cricket is headed.

Why Indians Are Tearing Apart Sky Sports Cricket For 'Lazy' Analysis On Jasprit Bumrah
Last Updated: UK cricket broadcaster Sky Sports Cricket put out an analysis showing that India performed better in Tests when Jasprit Bumrah was not playing. Jasprit Bumrah, India's frontline pacer, rested out the second Test between England and India when the visitors were down 0-1 in the five-match series. His absence became a hotly debated topic in the cricket community, and fans of the sport couldn't wrap their heads around the bowler's decision to sit out. Ravi Shastri shared a similar sentiment, as the former Head Coach of India expressed his surprise over the mic while seated in the commentary box at Edgbaston. 'This is a very important match, they've had a week off. I'm little surprised Bumrah is not playing this game. It should be taken out of the player's hand. It should be the captain and the coaching staff that should decide who should be playing the 11. This is an important game in the context of the series, he should be playing this game more than anything else," Shastri remarked on-air. On the fifth and final day of the Edgbaston Test, history was scripted. India registered their first-ever win at the ground in their long history of playing Test cricket. The glorious win helped the visiting squad square the series at 1-1. Captain Shubman Gill smashed a double century in the first innings and followed it up with a sublime ton. On the bowling front, Bumrah's replacement Akash Deep scalped ten English wickets across two innings while his partner in crime, Mohammed Siraj, sent seven batters back to the hut. England had lost the match by 336 runs. When the chatter and criticism around Bumrah's exclusion died down after the relieving win, a new outrage was brimming on X. The English cricket broadcaster Sky Sports Cricket shared a 'trivia" after India's triumph at Edgbaston, showcasing India's Test performances with and without Bumrah in the playing XI. The numbers indicated that India fared better in the Tests without the presence of the lethal pacer. With Bumrah, India recorded 43% wins. Without him, India's win rate increased to a whopping 70%. Fans Unite Cricket fans from India and outside united to express their objection to Sky Sports Cricket's assessment. They collectively asserted that the statistics were misleading. 'All this stat tells you is Bumrah is often rested for easy games, especially at home. Away this includes a series vs Bangladesh and the WI. At home this includes Afghanistan, WI, SA, Bangladesh, (sic)" wrote @MccaghreyJames on X in response. 'Him not playing in India drastically tilted this stat to the other side," another voice wrote. A user on X, who goes by the handle @cricrohit, called out the broadcaster over publishing a 'lazy analysis" while also claiming that the numbers displayed were wrong. 'Two points 1- can't believe a reputed broadcaster put out such a lazy analysis. 2- can't believe they blatantly copied a random tweet. How do I know they copied it? Because both made the same error- Bumrah has actually been part of 4 drawn games (not 5)." 'This is why I say that just numbers don't tell the whole truth, you need to the context to get the whole truth. He was rested a lot at home rightly so, and played a lot away, where we don't have the greatest of records, his own record is superb. That's why numbers are so skewed! (sic)" lamented X user @KOCricket528. Bumrah Returns Jasprit Bumrah is set to play the third Test at the Lord's Cricket Ground today (Thursday). The last time the two nations met at the iconic ground, India registered a memorable 151-run victory. KL Rahul was adjudged Player of the Match for his 129 in India's first innings. Mohammed Siraj picked up four wickets in each of the England innings. view comments First Published: July 10, 2025, 11:01 IST News viral Why Indians Are Tearing Apart Sky Sports Cricket For 'Lazy' Analysis On Jasprit Bumrah Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
