Varahi Navaratri celebrations conclude with Purnahuti Ritual at Durga Malleswaraswamy Temple

The Hindu04-07-2025
The Varahi Navaratri (Gupta Navaratri) celebrations at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri concluded on Friday (July 4) with the grand Purnahuti ritual.
The rituals were conducted by chief priests, including Kota Prasad and Vedic scholars, as per Sastric and Agamic traditions in seclusion (Ekanta Seva) without the physical presence of devotees.
This year, the Varahi Navaratri festivities began on June 26 (Ashadha Shuddha Padyami) and concluded on July 4 (Ashadha Shuddha Dashami). These nine nights are considered highly auspicious as per Puranic texts, particularly for invoking the blessings of Sri Varahi Devi, who is revered as one of the Sapta Matrikas and Dasha Mahavidyas.
Kanaka Durga temple Executive Officer V.K. Seena Naik and others attended the Purnahuti. The temple EO, priests and Vedic Committee said the Varahi Navaratri Utsavams have concluded, bringing spiritual merit to the devotees and reinforcing the temple's commitment to preserving Vedic traditions.

Dasara festival preparations begin at Indrakeeladri temple

Preparations are in full swing for the grand Dasara Mahotsavams to be held from September 22 to October 2 at the famous Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam on Indrakeeladri. Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy chaired a review meeting at the Jammidoddi Meeting Hall in One Town, Vijayawada. He emphasised that this year the festival should surpass previous years in grandeur, in line with Chief Minister's instructions to make the celebrations prestigious. He announced free laddu prasadam would be distributed to all devotees on Moola Nakshatram and Vijaya Dasami days. He said: 'Every department must ensure spiritual readiness with focus on easy access to drinking water, and annaprasadam. Ordinary devotees must receive top priority in darshan arrangements.' He also directed that Prakasam Barrage and the temple surroundings be illuminated beautifully, and stressed the importance of well-organised Vedic rituals, to be led by priests, the Vedic committee, and the chief archakas. He added that Krishna Harati during Dasara should be conducted with grandeur. Vijayawada (East) MLA Y. Satyanarayana (Sujana) Chowdary, stressed the need for advance arrangements, particularly in sanitation. He suggested seeking donor support and urged officials to ensure that the festival enhances Vijayawada's reputation. He also called for close monitoring of festival expenses to avoid overruns. With thousands of devotees expected daily, officials assured that all arrangements—from security to prasadam distribution—will be carried out smoothly to uphold the sanctity and tradition of the famed Dasara celebrations. NTR District Collector Lakshmi Sha, Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu, Municipal Commissioner Dhyanachand, Endowments Commissioner Ramachandra Mohan, Temple EO Seena Nayak, and senior officials from various departments were present.

What Role Do the Navagrahas Play in Shaping Your Life According to Vedic Astrology?

I depict the nine Navagrahas, each with unique symbols, radiating cosmic energy within a swirling nebula. Their distinct attributes and powers are highlighted. In Vedic astrology, the nine planets, or Navagrahas , are the core forces that shape a person's life and destiny. These celestial bodies are considered agents of divine cosmic will, each holding a unique energy and a specific purpose. Understanding their roles is fundamental to interpreting a Vedic birth chart. The traditional seven planets are the Sun (Surya), which represents the soul, ego, and authority. The Moon (Chandra) governs the mind, emotions, and intuition. Mars (Mangal) is the planet of energy, ambition, and aggression. Mercury (Budha) is the communicator, ruling intellect and speech. Jupiter (Guru) is the great benefic, signifying wisdom, expansion, and fortune. Venus (Shukra) rules love, relationships, and material pleasure. And Saturn (Shani) is the planet of discipline, karma, and responsibility, teaching life's hardest lessons. In addition to these, Vedic astrology includes two shadow planets, Rahu and Ketu , which are not physical but are points of immense power. Rahu, the North Node, is the head of a serpent, representing our worldly desires, ambitions, and obsessions. It pushes us toward new experiences and is linked to our future karma. Ketu, the South Node, is the headless tail, symbolizing detachment, spirituality, and our past-life mastery. It pulls us away from material attachments and guides us toward spiritual liberation. Together, the Navagrahas form a complex web of influences that create a person's unique life experience, balancing inner motivations with outer actions and shaping their entire destiny. What Is My Star Sign? A Complete Guide to Ascendant, Sun, Moon & Name Signs

When people inquire, "What's my star sign?" they usually mean their Sun sign. But in Vedic Astrology (Jyotish Shastra), the Sun is not the only thing that affects your personality and life destiny. Four main things are looked at to get a full picture of your astrological identity: Ascendant (Lagna) Sun Sign (Surya Rashi) Moon Sign (Chandra Rashi) Name Sign (Naam Rashi) Each of them has an effect on different parts of your life, changing both how you feel and what you do. Ascendant (Lagna) – The Self in Action The Ascendant sign is the sign of the zodiac that is rising in the east at the time of your birth. It changes around every two hours, so it's important to know exactly when you were born. The Ascendant shows how you look, who you are, and what people think of you at first. It controls how you naturally interact with the world. It changes how you deal with chances, problems, and people in your daily existence. How it affects real life: Your Ascendant tells you how to act and how others see you, which affects your natural confidence, style, and presence in everyday life. Sun Sign (Surya Rashi) – The Core Identity The Sun's location at your birth determines your Sun sign. This is the sign that most people use when talking about astrology. It stands for your mission in life, your uniqueness, and your energy. It shows who you are, what you want to do, and what drives you. In Vedic astrology, the Sun is also linked to power, recognition, and willpower. How it affects your life: Your Sun sign affects your objectives, ambitions, and feeling of self. It shows the traits you show when you work hard to reach your goals or achieve your greater purpose. Moon Sign (Chandra Rashi) – The Emotional Nature In Vedic Astrology, the Moon sign is very important. It is frequently seen to be more powerful than the Sun sign because it controls the intellect and feelings. It shows how you feel, what you want, and what you need. It affects how you interact with others and deal with what happens in your life. The Moon also controls mental health, tranquility, and comfort. How it affects your daily life: Your Moon sign tells you how you feel, how you act, and how you deal with relationships. It has a big effect on how you feel, how you make decisions, and how happy you are emotionally. Name Sign (Naam Rashi) – The Vibrational Identity The Name Sign is something that only Vedic Astrology has. It is based on the first sound of your name and the Nakshatra (lunar mansion) of your Moon. It holds your personal vibration and the way you look to others. It shows the energy that other people use when they talk to you. It can be based on any name, no matter what culture or tradition it comes from. How it affects real life: The Name Sign changes how your identity connects with the world, which affects how you talk to people, how you relate to them, and how they see you. Why These Four Signs Matter These four indications together give you a complete picture of your life: Your Ascendant tells you how you look and act in the world. The Sun sign tells you what your soul's mission is and what you want to do with your life. Your Moon sign controls your thoughts, feelings, and inner self. The Name sign affects how you see yourself and how you connect with others every day. The Moon sign and Name Sign have the most direct effects on daily life since they affect how you think, feel, and react right away.
