WNBA players sent a strong message to the world on Sunday during their All-Star fixture at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana, USA.

Team Collier got the better of Team Clark with a score of 151-131 as the latter's skipper, Caitlin Clark, sat the game out due to a groin injury.
The discussions surrounding equal pay for women in sport has been a hot-ticket item with players and stakeholders jumping on the bandwagon in every given opening.
'We have the most participation in league history. I think we had close to 40 players in our league meeting," Napheesa Collier said.
'I think it just sends a really strong message that we're standing really firm on the certain areas that we feel really strongly about that we need to improve on, and I think we got that message across," she added.
'Yeah, I think for myself that was the best part of [the meeting] being in the room and there's over 40 other players in this league, and I'm sure a lot more would have loved to be in there if they were in Indianapolis," Clark said.
'And I think that's the most powerful thing is all the girls from across the league just being in that room together, like Collier said, we should be paid more."
'And hopefully that's the case moving forward as the league continues to grow. I think that's something that's probably the most important thing that we're in the room advocating about," Clark added.

Explained: Why Lionel Messi has been given a one-match ban by MLS

Inter Miami star Lionel Messi has been handed a one-match ban by Major League Soccer (MLS). His former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba also faced a similar sanction. Here's what happened and why Messi and Alba have been banned from their next MLS game. read more will miss Inter Miami's big game against Eastern Conference leaders FC Cincinnati after Major League Soccer (MLS) handed him a one-match ban. The reason behind the ban is a bit bizarre, as Messi didn't take part in the MLS All-Star Game earlier this week. Why was Messi suspended? MLS has a rule that says any player who skips the All-Star Game without official league approval must miss their team's next match. Messi, along with teammate Jordi Alba, didn't play in the exhibition event on Wednesday, July 23, so the rule automatically applied to them. Why did Messi miss the All-Star Game? Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has explained that it was the club's decision and not the players'. He said that the team felt it was necessary to rest Messi and Alba because of upcoming fixtures. Messi has already played nine games in just 36 days, including matches in the MLS regular season, Concacaf Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup. 'I wanted to express today our full support for Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba, as the decision for them to sit out this week was made by the club. I think that is an important point. I want to assure everyone that Lionel and Jordi have acted in a way commeasured with what the club would want,' Mas said. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'It's untenable. For example, if faced with this situation next year, where we have an away game on Saturday, the All-Star Game is on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and we have a game on Saturday, an important game, we're going to be in the same boat, in the same situation,' he added. More from Football How did Messi and Inter Miami react? Jorge Mas has said that Messi is upset about the suspension given how competitive he is. 'Messi is very upset, extremely upset today, as expected. I'm hopeful it doesn't have an impact long term. Will it have an impact initially in the player's perception of how the league rules work, etc.? Absolutely, no doubt.' Will the rule change? MLS commissioner Don Garber admitted the league will review the policy in the future. 'I'm committed to working with our players to determine how the rule should evolve,' Garber was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Is Anshul Kamboj Unfit As Well? 'His Bowling Speeds Were So Low...'

Ravichandran Ashwin has questioned Anshul Kamboj's fitness after India find themselves on the backfoot in the fourth Test. Ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has said that Anshul Kamboj was bowling way faster in the Indian Premier League than he is in the fourth Test against England in Manchester, questioning the latter's fitness as India stare at an impending defeat not just in the game, but the series as well. Kamboj had a tough start to his career on the second day of the Test, but ended on a high with his maiden wicket, dismissing a set Ben Duckett. Kamboj had a huge role to play, with ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj far from their best. But he ended the day with dismal figures of 1/89 off his 18 overs in the innings. Kamboj even struggled with the second new ball and mixed things up by having Dhruv Jurel upto the stumps. 'I praised Anshul Kamboj yesterday, but I have to say that his bowling speeds were so low, I was quite surprised. I honestly hope he is okay, because he was bowling faster than this in the IPL," Ashwin said while speaking on his YouTube channel. 'He looked like he was struggling a touch. All said and done, the only solution to this (Bowling injuries and inefficiency) is to be able to create a bigger pool of bowlers," Ashwin said. England had a field day against the struggling Indian bowling unit, which was further aided by optimal batting conditions. Kamboj, who was a part of the India A team before the five-Test series started, was called in after pacers Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep were sidelined from the Manchester Test because of injuries. Grappling with a spate of injuries, India made three changes to their playing XI, bringing in Sai Sudharsan, Shardul Thakur and Kamboj in place of Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy and Akash. The choice for the third pacer was between Prasidh Krishna and Kamboj, who joined the team after Arshdeep picked up a hand injury while training in Beckenham last week. Anshul has picked 79 wickets in 24 first-class matches at an impressive economy of 3.1. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
