WNBA players sent a strong message to the world on Sunday during their All-Star fixture at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana, USA.
The players came out to warm up ahead of the game with t-shirts that read, 'Pay us what you owe us' as the topic of equal pay heats up.
Team Collier got the better of Team Clark with a score of 151-131 as the latter's skipper, Caitlin Clark, sat the game out due to a groin injury.
The discussions surrounding equal pay for women in sport has been a hot-ticket item with players and stakeholders jumping on the bandwagon in every given opening.
'We have the most participation in league history. I think we had close to 40 players in our league meeting," Napheesa Collier said.
'I think it just sends a really strong message that we're standing really firm on the certain areas that we feel really strongly about that we need to improve on, and I think we got that message across," she added.
'Yeah, I think for myself that was the best part of [the meeting] being in the room and there's over 40 other players in this league, and I'm sure a lot more would have loved to be in there if they were in Indianapolis," Clark said.
'And I think that's the most powerful thing is all the girls from across the league just being in that room together, like Collier said, we should be paid more."
'And hopefully that's the case moving forward as the league continues to grow. I think that's something that's probably the most important thing that we're in the room advocating about," Clark added.

Michael Vaughan Highlights What India Need At Manchester: 'That Virat Mentality...'

Michael Vaughan has said that India need 'Virat Kohli mentality' to restrict England in Manchester Test. Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has said that India would need to bring the 'Virat Kohli mentality' in them to ensure that they can restrict the hosts to a below-par score in their first innings of the Manchester Test and pull off a comeback in a do-or-die encounter. Ben Duckett enabled England to deliver a potential knock-out punch to India with a sizzling 94 as the hosts punished a wayward pace attack to end on 225/2 at stumps on day two of the fourth Test in Manchester. England made full use of favourable batting conditions and now look all set for a big first innings total. Openers Duckett (94 off 100) and Zak Crawley (84 off 113) added 166 off 192 deliveries to put India on the backfoot after the visitors did well to post 358 in the afternoon session. 'The series will be decided on Day 3. If England have a great day on Day 3, that's the series done and dusted. India and Shubman have to arrive with that Virat mentality, 'We have to win Day 3," Vaughan said while speaking on Cricbuzz. 'They have to win tomorrow. If they win tomorrow, this game is alive and India can win this Test. If they lose Day 3, this series is gone for them," Vaughan added. Coming out to bat despite a broken foot, India's Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant 's courageous 54 off 75 deliveries fuelled India past 350 on a track with plenty of seam movement. However, the Indian pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and debutant Anshul Kamboj wasn't accurate enough to trouble the England openers, who returned to their aggressive ways after shifting gears at Lord's. Far too many freebies were offered on the leg side and England openers, especially Duckett, were happy to oblige. England scored at close to five runs per over while India struck at little over three. It was turning out to be a forgettable debut for Kamboj, a last-minute addition to India's injury-hit team, before he had the dangerous Duckett caught behind with a length delivery that bounced a bit more than usual. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Indian Men's Hockey Team To Play Prep Matches In Australia For Asia Cup

Last Updated: The Indian men's hockey team will tour Australia for a four-match series in Perth from August 15-21, preparing for the Asia Cup in Rajgir, Bihar from August 29 to September 7. As part of their preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup, the Indian men's hockey team is all set to tour Australia for a friendly four-match series in Perth from August 15 to 21. Ranked eighth in the world, the Indian team will face off against the sixth-ranked Australian hosts on August 15, 16, 19, and 21 at the same venue. The Asia Cup is scheduled to take place in Rajgir, Bihar from August 29 to September 7. The continental event offers a direct qualification spot for next year's FIH World Cup to the tournament winner. 'This tour comes at a crucial time for us, just ahead of the Hero Asia Cup in Bihar. While these are technically friendly matches, they form a very important part of our preparation phase," stated India chief coach Craig Fulton in a statement released by Hockey India. 'Playing against a team like Australia will test us in all aspects – both on the ball and off it – and that is exactly what we need to sharpen up before a major tournament," he added. Fulton mentioned that the team has recently completed a 10-day training block. '…the mood in the camp is upbeat as we are fully focused on what lies ahead. One of our key goals on this tour is to use the first two matches for selection purposes, while the remaining games will be played with the shortlisted squad for the Asia Cup," he said. 'Our focus is firmly on moving forward — the goal now is to prepare well and go to the Asia Cup with the intent to win it," he concluded. The two teams recently clashed in the FIH Pro League in Europe, where Australia narrowly defeated India 3–2 in both legs. India had managed to secure a 3–2 victory over the Kookaburras at last year's Paris Olympics — their first Olympic win over Australia since the 1972 Munich Games. While recent encounters have been closely fought, Australia have historically dominated this rivalry, winning 35 of the 51 matches played between the two teams since 2013. India have emerged victorious nine times, with seven matches ending in draws. 'If He Is In Pain...': Shardul Thakur Hails Rishabh Pant's Unmatched Passion For India

Last Updated: Rishabh Pant scored a half-century while batting with a broken foot to help India finish their first innings at 358. India allrounder Shardul Thakur on Thursday praised Rishabh Pant's 'unmatched" courage and pain tolerance after Pant came out to bat on the second day of the fourth Test against England despite having a broken foot. Speaking to reporters, Shardul confirmed that Pant indeed suffered a fracture while batting on the first day. 'I think it was always our plan to try and bring Pant to the middle. There were significant efforts from the medical team, so kudos to them," said Shardul, referring to Pant's fifty that helped India post 358 in their first innings. 'They managed to get Rishabh back onto the field, allowing him to bat for a while. The runs he scored were, of course, vital for the team. 'And yes, he was in a lot of pain. We have seen him perform many amazing feats, and this was yet another remarkable achievement for the team today," added Shardul. Shardul and his teammates were eager to see how Pant would approach his innings after resuming at an overnight score of 37, having retired hurt after being struck on his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep off England pacer Chris Woakes on Wednesday. 'Everyone was very excited to see how he would approach his innings. The passion he showed for the team today is unmatched. We have witnessed many instances in the past where players have batted with fractures. For example, Graeme Smith once batted for the South African team with a fractured hand. In these moments, the player's grit is crucial. 'And I believe Rishabh's positivity and grit help him endure his pain. His pain threshold is very high, so if he is in pain, it's a serious injury," said Thakur. Regarding Pant batting in the second innings, Thakur said: 'That decision lies with him and the medical team. In the morning, we thought he might be able to bat. Earlier, I had to check his foot to see if he could walk properly. If he could walk properly, then we could consider him batting. 'When we arrived at the ground and were warming up, he was not there. Then I went to bat, and I don't know what happened after that. I believe there is a fracture," confirmed Thakur. England opener Zak Crawley was also surprised to see Pant in the middle. 'Not many people can do what Pant did today," said Crawley, who put England in a strong position by sharing a 166-run opening stand with Ben Duckett. England ended the day at 225 for two with Ollie Pope and Joe Root in the middle. With PTI Inputs view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
