Every word of Lewis Hamilton's eye-catching untelevised speech at Spanish GP

Daily Mirror2 days ago

Fans in the Formula 1 Paddock Club lounge at the Spanish Grand Prix were treated to a speech from Lewis Hamilton as the Ferrari star shared his feelings about still competing in the sport
Lewis Hamilton has admitted he has a "love-hate relationship" with Formula 1 after such a long time of being out of title contention. But in the same speech he insisted he still loves competing in the sport and sees it as "a real privilege".
Aged 40, Hamilton is in the first season of a new era for his F1 career having chosen to join Ferrari. He has fulfilled a childhood dream by doing so but, so far, it has not led to an immediate return to the sharp end of the grid.

Ferrari are not currently in a position to be winning races and Hamilton has yet to score a podium for the Italian team. His team-mate Charles Leclerc has managed it twice but he too is frustrated by their lack of performance n 2025.

But for Hamilton, it has been a long wait already for the chance to add to his seven F1 titles. Since he was cruelly and controversially denied by Max Verstappen in 2021, he has been out of the fight with Mercedes suffering a decline in their performance.

He will be frustrated that his move to Ferrari has not immediately pushed him further toward the front of the grid. But, speaking to fans in the F1 Paddock Club at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, he made it clear that he is still hungry for more success.
In the speech, footage of which was recorded and posted on social media, the Ferrari driver told fans: "To be able to be here for that long is a real privilege, you know? And there's only 20 of us in the world of eight billion or nine billion, whatever it is, that get to do this.
"And what I would say is I'm so thankful that I still love what I do today. Like, I love my job the same as I did at the beginning. And don't tell my boss I'd do it for free, fortunately I don't have to. You know, it's... I can't explain it.

"Naturally from racing as a competitor, there's a love-hate relationship you have when you're not succeeding, you're not getting to where you want to go. But you also always have to remember that it's a part of the journey and you will have seasons that you're not successful.
"You'll have seasons that are difficult and you just have to take the highs with the lows and understand that. We're kind of at the start or kind of lower part of the mountain and we're building up to get back to the top. And that's what I'm working on."
Hamilton qualified fifth for the Spanish Grand Prix and started a race higher than Leclerc for only the second time this year.

Saudi Pro League eye Andre Onana transfer as Barcelona make Marcus Rashford call

Manchester United are hoping to bounce back from a poor season and they are already making moves in the transfer market, having signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves Manchester United are set for a busy summer as they look to revamp their squad after enduring their worst ever Premier League campaign. United finished 15th in the league and also missed out on Champions League qualification after losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final. The Red Devils have already finalised a £62.5million deal for Matheus Cunha and plenty more incomings and outgoings are expected. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are set to complete permanent exits, while captain Bruno Fernandes could also leave. ‌ Al-Hilal are hoping to tempt him to Saudi Arabia with a hugely lucrative £100m contract offer and it remains to be seen whether Fernandes will accept. With all that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at the latest news and rumours around Old Trafford... ‌ Onana exit Reports have claimed that Andre Onana is a target for newly-promoted Saudi Pro League side Neom SC. It is claimed that United would be opene to selling the goalkeeper, who made several high-profile errors this season. However, it has previously been reported that Onana wants to fight for his place at Old Trafford. "Andre's plan is to stay in Manchester and he wants to knuckle down and get United back to where they should be," a source was quoted as saying last month. "His sole focus is on United and nothing else. He's a confident person and wants to prove the doubters wrong. He knows he has made mistakes but he sees proving people wrong as a challenge." Barcelona's Rashford call Barcelona have been linked with a move for Marcus Rashford and the club's sporting director, Deco, has delivered an update on their transfer plans. "We have been focusing on renewing contracts, after that, we'll discuss players to come," Deco told BBC Sport. "Of course, these two players, like you mentioned, they are good but have contracts in their clubs, so we won't speak because it's not fair. But when you decide to go to the market, for sure, we find some names. In my opinion, we don't need to bring many players. ‌ "When I speak with the agents of the players, everyone wants to come or stay. So this is important. The image of the club is still good. We are proud because Barcelona is still such a big club, and the way we are playing football makes players want to come." Man Utd eye Udinese star According to Italian outlet Messaggero Veneto, United are interested in Udinese defender Oumar Solet. Solet has impressed since joining Udinese from Salzburg in January and the likes of Napoli and Bournemouth have also been linked with the 25-year-old. The report states that Udinese are planning to cash in on Solet this summer, having set a price tag of around £30m.

Harry Styles catches everyone's eyes as he strolls around London in tiny shorts

Harry Styles has sent fans into a frenzy with his latest look – not that it takes much, of course. The One Direction heartthrob was snapped on a stroll around London, displaying his gym-honed physique in a pair of teeny tiny shorts. Harry, 31, is famous for his bold fashion choices, whether it be covering Vogue in a lace dress or performing in stadiums wearing sparkly jumpsuits. But in his daily life away from the glitz and glam of showbiz, he's clearly a bigger fan of casual attire. Seen in the capital on Sunday, the As It Was hitmaker ran errands in the sporty bottoms and a comfy black sweater. The shorts showcased his very muscular legs as well as the array of tattoos Harry has on his thighs, from a tiger to French and Spanish writing. Adding to his vibrant yet chilled ensemble, he threw on a purple baseball cap and yellow tote bag, completing the look with some eye-catching footwear. Teasing what could be a huge trend for summer – let's be honest, if Harry Styles is wearing it, we're all wearing it – he strolled leisurely in a pair of Prada suede sneakers, which set him back £720. Well, we say 'set him back,' but Harry recently celebrated making it to The Times 40 Under 40 Richest UK celebrities list, with his net worth estimated at a staggering £225million. But, in true Harry style, his generosity was also noted, as he was named too on the paper's Giving List, recognising his charitable donations. The latest photos of the Grammy-winning star show him in his own world, wearing shades in an attempt to go somewhat incognito and with AirPods in his ears. However, when the pics started doing the rounds on social media, people were anything but calm. 'how am i supposed to focus on anything rn when he looks this beautiful', declared X user @flowerrysue. 'If I had those legs I would also walk around in shorts every day', wrote @ugo___________. 'i'm serious when i say men should start apologizing for not being harry styles', said @axlsugar. Fans are also anticipating the pop star releasing new music at any moment, with his last release being the mega-successful Harry's House album in May 2022. Following his multi-million-pound-grossing Love On Tour shows, Harry retreated from the spotlight for a while, specifically when his former bandmate Liam Payne died unexpectedly last October. In recent months, though, the Watermelon Sugar singer has been a busy bee, spotted here, there, and everywhere, leaving fans unable to keep up with his whereabouts. Early last month, people got quite a shock when Harry appeared in the crowd in Rome to witness the announcement of the new Pope. Having made his love for Italy known, the 1D alum blended into the spectators at Vatican City as a bell marked the election of Robert Francis Prevost, who will be known as Pope Leo XIV. Declaring his love for Italy when he took his tour there a few summers back, Harry even spoke Italian, revealing he was learning the language 'very slowly,' asking fans to 'please be patient' with him. 'Some of the happiest and most special moments of my life have been in Italy, and I'm very grateful for everything this country has given me,' he said sweetly. More Trending He continued: 'So, my love goes to every single one of you. Thank you for being here. Tonight, I want you to be free to be whoever you want to be.' Shortly before his recent roamings in Rome, he was seen in Berlin, and he even made a stop off in Tokyo to run a marathon… as you do. Regardless of his coordinates, fans are certain that a single announcement is imminent, what with Harry making quite the return to the public eye and with sources previously speculating that tunes could land this summer.
