Nissan X-Trail is an adventure-ready SUV
The N-Trek version, tested here, offers robust design features for those who frequently venture off-road.
Setting it aside visually from other X-Trails, the N-Trek has strong gunmetal grey front and rear bumpers, gloss black door mirror casings and roof rails and 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels.
The e4orce system means the vehicle is at home in a variety of conditions The durability of the interior is improved by the fact all seats are equipped with wipe-clean, water-resistant upholstery, while rubber mats have replaced the carpet-style mats seen on regular X-Trails. Standard features also include a reversible boot lining mat made of robust rubber.
These hard-to-ruin surfaces will undoubtedly save a world of pain when, for example, transporting kids back from Sunday football after a match on a muddy pitch, or perhaps returning from trail running or mountain biking exploits.
The vehicle is also compatible with the existing wide range of accessories such as towbars, roof bars, bike racks, and a cargo area organiser.
With the seven-seat configuration, the middle bench can slide in a 60:40 formation to balance space for all occupants, with ample legroom in the middle row.
The boot size of the seven-seater is smaller at 485 litres, compared to the 575 litres offered by the five-seater.
The vehicle is suited to outdoor enthusiasts In its efforts to meet the requirements of outdoor enthusiasts, Nissan offers the N-Trek with top two hybrid outputs in the X-Trail range.
The model features Nissan's e-POWER or e-4ORCE powertrains, which make use of a turbocharged three-cylinder, 1.5-litre engine with variable compression ratio tech to generate electricity and charge the car's battery.
Choices are between the 201bhp two-wheel-drive and the 210bhp all-wheel-drive set-up.
The more potent four-wheel-drive option comes with a trade-off; it decreases efficiency, offering an official figure of 44.8mpg, compared to the two-wheel-drive's 48.7mpg. If you drive around town a lot of lower speeds, the electric driving should bring those fuel economy figures down a bit.
The interior is durable and spacious However, towing capacity expands significantly with the four-wheel-drive option, pulling a maximum braked trailer weight of 1,800kg (five-seater) or 1,650kg (seven-seater), compared to the front-wheel-drive's capacity of only 670kg.
The space and flexibility of the cabin makes this a hugely practical family vehicle, with oceans of space for occupants and their luggage.
The 12.3-inch screen looks good and provides clear graphics, but can take a while to respond to commands.
Behind the wheel, the 0-62mph time of seven seconds feels swift for a vehicle of this size.
The vehicle looks purposeful from all angles The hybrid powertrain fills the lag in petrol power nicely, and transitions smoothly between sources of power with none of the jerkiness you sometimes find with this sort of combination.
The set-up of the X-Trail is weighted in favour of comfort over sportiness. The suspension absorbs road imperfections nicely, but the handling doesn't feel especially sharp when progressing swiftly along a twisty B-road.
Grip levels are excellent in most conditions, with the e-4ORCE all-wheel drive powertrain employing a motor at each axle which can adjust power application rapidly according to the available grip.
All in all, the X-Trail is an excellent all-round package, offering practicality, lots of tech and an adventurous spirit.

Cupra Born and more qualify for £1500 government EV grant
Meanwhile, the UK-built Citroën e-Berlingo and Vauxhall Combo Life Electric were awarded the lower discount. This is likely to be because their batteries come from abroad, while the Nissan Leaf's battery will be supplied by the AESC factory next to Nissan's Sunderland plant. The government has not given any indication of when to expect the next batch of ECG-eligible EVs, but many sub-£37k EVs – including many from Asia that are unlikely to be deemed eligible on the basis of their manufacturing and export CO2 footprints – have already been discounted by their makers. Unlike with the previous Plug-in Car Grant (PiCG), buyers don't need to register for the discount; instead, the ECG is automatically applied to the sale price of the eligible models. Transport secretary Heidi Alexander said: 'This summer, we're making owning an electric car cheaper, easier and a reality for thousands more people across the UK.' To qualify for the grant, car manufacturers' models must meet science-backed emission-footprint criteria, while the individual model lines must be priced under £37,000 in entry-level trim. Which discount a model receives – either £1500 or £3750 – is determined by its environmental impact: how much CO2 is emitted in an EV's production and assembly, along with the emissions footprint of its battery manufacture. Threshold levels have yet to be made public. While any manufacturer can apply for their car to be included in the scheme, it's thought that, due to this criteria, cars produced in Asian countries will not be eligible for the ECG.

Nissan Leaf is the most reliable electric car
Nissan's Leaf is the most reliable electric car, a study of EV garage repairs by Warranty Solutions Group has revealed. It topped the rankings with an 'impressively low' claim rate of just 3.06 per cent – with an average repair price of £300.10 – and comes as Nissan prepares to launch a new generation of its battery hatchback. The report said: 'This result reinforces the Leaf's reputation for dependable performance.' Second was Chinese-owned MG ZS EV with the Audi E-Tron third. Least reliable was the Tesla Model S, with an 'alarming' 50 per cent warranty claim rate and an average claim cost of £703.50.

How to double your living space while camping with awning that's now £245 off
If you're planning a family camping trip but are worried about there being enough room for everyone, this 'easy to put up' driveaway awning is a must buy, especially now its £245 off Summer is the perfect time for a family camping trip, whether you're staying local or even heading abroad. Whilst camping brings a sense of adventure and the chance to be outdoors with your loved ones, it can also pose its own problems, the biggest of which is making sure you have enough space to relax in. Whilst a large tent or campervan is great for sleeping in, if you're planning on spending most of your time around the campsite then you'll want some additional space that gives you room to enjoy meals together, play games or relax. With the ever changing weather, you'll also want a space that's sheltered from the rain or wind which is why an awning like this Dalby Skylight Driveaway Awning is a great addition to your camping set up. The Dalby Skylight Driveaway Awning is usually priced at £499.99, but is currently reduced by 49% on Trail's website, bringing the price down to £254.99 and saving you £245. As well as being a bargain, the awning is the ideal addition to your camping experience, giving you plenty of space to enjoy together no matter what the weather is doing. It's compatible with most camper vans, mid-size vans and people carrier-type cars, with the Trail website providing a full list of compatible vehicles that the awning will attach to. It's worth noting it's not been designed to attach to a tent, so if you're looking for ways to extend your tent space, you might want to consider something like the HI-GEAR Vanguard 8 porch (£340) or the Berghaus Air Tent Porch (£314). However for those of you with camping vehicles, the Dalby Skylight Driveaway Awning is a great choice, measuring 180cm long, 300cm wide and 210cm high (not including the cowling and canopy). It comes with a driveaway kit that lets you easily secure it to your car or van, and is quick and easy to detach if you want to go for a drive. It also comes with an attachable PE groundsheet to stop the grass getting wet or muddy underfoot, and has been designed with high-density polyester fabric for ultimate sun and rain protection. Zipped doors make it easy to access, and it has full-length front and side windows with toggle curtains and three PVC skylights with blinds for the perfect combination of light and privacy. Shoppers have also praised the Dalby Skylight Driveaway Awning, and there are currently only three reviews that have given it a rating of 4.75 out of 5. One said: 'Bigger than expected. The video tutorial made the whole thing very easy to put it up.' Another wrote: 'I had been searching for a driveway awning which would fulfil all our needs and this is seriously the best on the market. Everyone on site comments on how good it is! Every detail has been thought out and the awning is really easy to put up- even single handed. There are so many excellent features- such as the skylight, the curtains, porch and it even comes supplied with a driveway kit. I have also purchased the dark zone awning bedroom but am yet to try this out however, I have assembled it and it appears to be excellent quality.' Whilst the third added: 'Nice product, just the right size for my van. I had a damaged pole on delivery but this was rectified quickly without problem. After use and review I would opt for a front facing awning.'
