Power display from England as they get ready for Women's Rugby World Cup

MONT-DE-MARSAN, (France): England concluded preparations for their hosting of the Women's Rugby World Cup with a convincing away victory over France, winning 40-6 on Saturday in their last warm-up international before the tournament kicks off later in the month.
England — who have contested the last six World Cup finals, a run that includes their 2014 triumph — produced a dominant performance and will be heading to the tournament brimming with confidence as they scored six tries without reply against their hosts.
Morwenna Talling, Amy Cokayne and Maud Muir all went over in the first half as England put on an impressive display of forward power and Megan Jones and Lark Atkin-Davies (two) added second-half scores as a near-full strength English side proved far too strong for the French at Stade Andre-et-Guy-Boniface.
Zoe Harrison kicked over five conversions while France's two penalties were slotted over by Morgane Bourgeois.
The result made it 57 wins from their past 58 internationals, and a 16th win in a row over the French, for the English who kick off the World Cup with a Pool A clash against the United States in Sunderland on Aug 22.
France, who have been third at seven of the nine previous World Cups but never reached a final, are in Pool D and meet Italy in their opening game at Exeter on Aug 23. — REUTERS

Donnarumma was PSG's first-choice keeper and played a key role as they won the Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season. The 26-year-old has won the French top-flight three times since joining from AC Milan in 2021. However, French media reports said Donnarumma, whose contract with PSG ends next year, may be on his way out this summer. PSG also signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille, who was named Ligue 1's goalkeeper of the year last season. Chevalier, Matvey Safonov and Renato Marin were the three keepers named in the squad on Tuesday for the match against Europa League champions Spurs. PSG squad: Achraf Hakimi, Lucas Beraldo, Marquinhos, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Fabian Ruiz, Goncalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Vitinha, Lee Kang-In, Lucas Hernandez, Nuno Mendes, Bradley Barcola, Lucas Chevalier, Warren Zaire-Emery, Matvey Safonov, Noham Kamara, Ibrahim Mbaye, Willian Pacho, Renato Marin. Soccer-FA imposes eight-week ban on former referee Coote for Klopp comments

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Premier League - West Ham United v Manchester United - London Stadium, London, Britain - October 27, 2024 Referee David Coote awards a penalty to West Ham United REUTERS/Tony O Brien/File Photo (Reuters) -Former Premier League referee David Coote was sanctioned and given an eight-week ban by the Football Association on Tuesday in relation to comments he made about former Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp in a video that went viral last year. Coote had been sacked by English soccer referees' body PGMOL after a video, recorded in July 2020, circulated on social media showing the official allegedly abusing Klopp and after a full investigation, his position was deemed untenable. The 43-year-old was charged by the FA in June and an independent Regulatory Commission has now imposed an eight-week suspension and mandatory face-to-face education programme on him. Coote had admitted the charge. "It was alleged that contrary to FA Rule E3.1 the referee acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words about Jurgen Klopp in a video that was recorded around July 2020 and appeared on social media in November 2024," the FA said. "It was also alleged that his actions constitute an 'Aggravated Breach', which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as they included a reference – whether express or implied – to nationality." Europe's soccer governing body also said Coote was banned from any UEFA refereeing activity until June 2026. Coote has apologised for his actions. The Sun also published a video which the newspaper said showed Coote appearing to snort white powder during his time working as a match official at Euro 2024. Palace's Europa League demotion would ‘devalue the competition', says Henderson

Dean Henderson led Palace to a Community Shield victory over Liverpool yesterday. (AP pic) LONDON : Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson said that the club's drop from the Europa League would 'devalue the competition', as they await the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (CAS) decision on their appeal against Uefa's ruling in a multi-club ownership case. Palace were demoted to the Conference League, the third-tier European competition, by Uefa's club financial control body in July because John Textor, president of the Eagle Football Group, majority owners of Olympique Lyonnais, also has a controlling stake in the London club. Ligue 1 club Lyon, which also qualified for the second-tier continental competition, was allowed to compete. Palace have appealed to CAS against Uefa's decision to remove them from the Europa League, with a closed-door hearing taken place on Aug 8. A decision is expected today. 'We win the FA Cup, we are justified to be in the Europa League,' Henderson told BBC Radio 5 Live after leading Palace to a FA Community Shield victory over Premier League champions Liverpool yesterday. 'For football purposes, we deserve to be in the Europa League. I think it would devalue the competition unfortunately if we weren't in the Europa League.' Palace said in June that New York Jets co-owner Robert Wood 'Woody' Johnson had signed a legally binding agreement to buy Eagle Football Holding's stake in the club. Palace, however, missed the March deadline to comply with the multi-club ownership rules before winning the FA Cup in May to earn their place in European competition. 'I know the chairman (Steve Parish) has fought hard against it and fingers crossed we are in the Europa League like we deserve to be,' Henderson, 28, said. 'I am sure they will see sense and put us back in the Europa League.'
