Awareness drive for railway development in southern Odisha districts

Berhampur: Several social organisations under the banner of Milita Kriya Anusthan Committee, which spearheaded an agitation demanding development in the railway sector in southern Odisha, launched an awareness drive in Ganjam and Kandhamal districts by holding meetings in different towns on Friday.
A bus, designated as Vikash Rath, carrying around 40 members of the committee, was flagged off from the railway station here. The committee members held meetings in Hinjili, Aska and Bhanjanagar on Friday and were scheduled to hold a meeting at Phulbani in Kandhamal on Saturday.
"Besides some other demands, we urged the govt for the immediate construction of the railway line from Berhampur to Sambalpur (Rairkhol) via Bhanjanagar and Phulbani," said Bala Krushna Panda, a retired IAS officer and president of the committee.
"If the railway line is constructed, it will bring Kandhamal under the railway network for the first time," he said.
"Kandhamal, the tribal-dominated district, is yet to be under the railway map, even after 78 years of Independence. People of Kandhamal and Bhanjanagar, which is about 80km from here, depend on the Berhampur railway station for their train travel," he said.

Naidu to review preparations for Vizag Yoga Day event tomorrow
Visakhapatnam : Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu will hold a high-level review meeting on preparations for International Yoga Day event in the city on Monday. The Yoga Day will be held along the 26.5-km beach stretch from RK Beach's Kalimata temple to Bheemili. The main stage will be at Kalimatha temple, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, governor Sayed Abdul Nazeer, CM Chandrababu Naidu and his deputy Pavan Kalyan are expected to participate. In case of rain, the venue will be shifted to Andhra University Engineering College Grounds, where the authorities have covered the entire ground with pandals. The govt has been preparing to perform yoga with around five lakh people on that particular day on the entire beach stretch, including 31,000 people in 600 buses from Srikakulam, 36,000 in 700 buses from the undivided Vizianagaram district, and around 45,000 in 800 buses from Anakapalli and others. The city alone will perform with more than three lakh people. According to the officials, around five lakh people will take part on the event. Hundreds of yoga teachers have trained thousands of people for the event. Shah in Lucknow today to give job letters to cops in UP's biggest-ever hiring drive
Lucknow: In a first, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will give appointment letters to newly recruited constables of the UP Police in a grand ceremony in the state capital on Sunday. As many as 60,244 cops were recruited by UP Police, marking the completion of the largest single police recruitment drive ever undertaken by any state police in the country. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took stock of preparations at Sector 18 of Lucknow's Vrindavan Yojana on Saturday. According to senior officers posted at the DGP headquarters, the top 50 candidates will be handed over their appointment letters by Shah. All 60k-plus candidates have been invited to the event. State DGP Rajeev Krishna, who reached the spot to review preparations, told TOI that the event will witness participation from ministers, MLAs, senior bureaucrats, and media representatives. "Recruits from all 75 districts of the state will gather for the large-scale programme.
