However, the claims are misleading.
2022 violence
A reverse image search revealed that the pictures have been online for more than three years and first featured in local articles and community newspapers that described two taxis set alight at Thembelani Mine in Rustenberg in the North West province (archived here and here).
'The incident occurred after some taxi operators had allegedly beaten up three mineworkers for taking away their business by ferrying passengers using their vehicles,' Platinum Weekly, a local community paper, reported on May 20, 2022.
The photos were also published on X, with the same caption as the claims circulating in 2025 (archived here).

The same claim was debunked in 2024 after another X user posted the misleading pictures (archived here).
Provincial police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone told AFP Fact Check on August 1, 2025, that they are 'not aware of recent incidents of taxi violence'.
Not so in other provinces, however.
In neighbouring Gauteng, officials announced the formation of a specialised task team in July to combat ongoing taxi violence after at least 59 people linked to the industry were killed in the first three months of this year (archived here and here).

Election rally clip misrepresented as Philippine VP helping flood victims
"Vice President Sara Duterte does not mind the heavy rains as long as she can bring help to the people affected by the floods and the storm," reads the Tagalog-language caption to a Facebook Reel shared July 23, 2025. The video, viewed over 300,000 times, shows Duterte at the foreground swarmed by supporters in the rain. Image Screenshot of the false post, taken on August 6, 2025 with a red X added by AFP The video, also posted on TikTok, was shared after days of monsoon rains and three successive tropical storms flooded parts of the country, left at least and forced thousands from their homes (archived here, here and here). According to a timeline by the Philippine's disaster agency, the "combined effects" of the southwest monsoon and storms could be felt from July 15 to July 26. However, the vice president was out of the country during this period. Duterte was at The Hague in Netherlands from July 6 to July 23, according to multiple news reports published by local media (archived here, here and here). She was visiting her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is detained at the International Criminal Court on a crimes against humanity charge tied to his deadly anti-narcotics campaign. The vice president can be seen consistently granting interviews outside the detention centre on different days while she was in the European country (archived here and here). Her next recorded public appearance was on July 27, when she visited the Filipino community in Seoul (archived link). While Duterte's office conducted relief operations in July, she is not pictured in any of the images shared on the Office of the Vice President's official Facebook page (archived link). Election campaign Keyword searches on Facebook found the falsely shared clip corresponds to footage shared May 5, 2025 in a page called "Engr. Berto" (archived link). "What a warm welcome in Isabela City, Basilan for VP Inday and Sen Imee," reads its Tagalog caption, using the vice president's nickname and referring to her ally, Senator Imee Marcos. According to social media posts shared by her political allies, Duterte was in southern Basilan province on May 4, a week before the Philippine mid-term elections, to help candidates campaign in the area (archived here, here and here). The shirt that Duterte was wearing that day -- with her surname printed at the back in green text -- as well as her hair accessory, matches what she is wearing in the falsely shared clip. Cambodia rally image falsely linked to Thailand conflict
"Khmer people revolt!! Protest continues," reads part of the Thai-language text superimposed on an image viewed more than 40,000 times on TikTok since it was posted on August 3, 2025. "Cambodians urge Hun Sen to search for frontline soldiers who cannot be contacted. Martyred for the country but left as a corpse without family." Hun Sen is Cambodia's former leader, who retains an influential role in government. His son, Hun Manet has led Cambodia since 2023. The image shows a group of people holding up photos and signs. Image Screenshot of the false TikTok post captured on August 4, 2025, with a red X added by AFP The same image also circulated in similar TikTok posts. It surfaced after Thailand and Cambodia agreed a truce on July 29, following five days of clashes that killed at least 43 people on both sides -- the latest eruption of a long-standing border dispute (archived here). The conflict also drove more than 300,000 from their homes, and kicked off a disinformation blitz as Thai and Cambodian partisans alike sought to boost the narrative that the other was to blame (archived link). The Bangkok Post reported that Thailand's Deputy Defence Minister Nattapon Narkphanit had called on Cambodia to retrieve the bodies of its fallen soldiers left at the border -- adding that any delay would "demean their honour and dignity" as well as pose a health risk to nearby villages (archived link). The circulating image, however, does not show Cambodian protesters also demanding their government retrieve the bodies. Market vendor protest A reverse image search on Google led to footage posted on YouTube on July 11 -- two weeks before the latest border clashes (archived link). The falsely shared image appears to be a still from this footage. Its Thai-language caption reads: "Livestream from a Cambodian market. Merchants protested aggressively, asking Hun Sen to help with an incident at Chhnuk Trou Market … Kampong Chhnang on July 11, 2025." Image Screenshot comparison of the falsely shared image (left) and the YouTube clip shared on July 11 (right) A further keyword search led to a similar clip shared on the Facebook page of Cambodian news website CJ News on July 11 (archived link). "Citizen Journalist Report: Vendors in Chhnuk Trou Market asked Hun Manet for help as Kampong Chhnang authorities forcibly dismantled their stalls," the Khmer-language post reads. Image Screenshot comparison of the falsely shared image (left) and the CJ News post (right), with corresponding elements highlighted by AFP AFP has also debunked other misinformation related to the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.

France arrests man who lit cigarette from war memorial flame in Paris
ADVERTISEMENT A man who lit a cigarette from a memorial flame at a famous war monument in Paris has been arrested, according to France's interior minister. A video posted on social media shows a man stooping to light a cigarette from the flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe, before walking away. The incident took place on Monday evening and the man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, according to police. The alleged culprit has not been identified. France's Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said the act was "indecent and pathetic". "The man who desecrated the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by lighting a cigarette with the memorial flame was arrested in Paris for violating a burial site, tomb, urn, or monument erected in memory of the dead. He was taken into custody and admitted the facts," Retailleau wrote on X on Tuesday. The memorial, which was first unveiled in 1920, holds the remains of a soldier killed in World War I and serves as a tribute to all of France's war dead. France's Minister for Veterans and Remembrance Patricia Miralles said she was filing a case with the Paris public prosecutor's office over the incident. "This flame does not light a cigarette, it burns for the sacrifice of millions of our soldiers," Miralles wrote on X. "This is an insult to our dead, to our history and to our nation. You cannot ridicule French remembrance and get away with it." The video of the incident was filmed by a Latvian tourist and first posted to TikTok, according to Le Figaro newspaper. The tourist told the paper that the man did not appear drunk and seemed to be fully aware of his actions. Euronews could not independently verify the footage.
