Fahmi: Two more NADI centres to be built in Sabah, total now 132
He said the two NADI centres under construction are in Kampung Gelam and Pulau Banggi, which will provide digital services to residents in those areas.
'Of the total NADI centres in Sabah, 118 existing centres are operating well, while 12 new NADI centres have also begun operations,' he told a press conference after launching the Community Day Programme (HBK) at NADI Sim Sim here today.
Also present were Sandakan MP Vivian Wong Shir Yee, Tanjong Papat assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Commission Member General (Rtd) Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
A total of 1,099 NADI centres have been established nationwide, with Sabah having the second highest number after Sarawak, which leads with 156 centres.
Fahmi said Sandakan district alone has eight operational NADI centres, including NADI Sim Sim, NADI Pekan Batu Sapi, NADI PPR Taman Mesra, NADI Taman Mawar, NADI PPR Taman Murni, NADI Kampung Sungai Kayu, NADI Sebait Padas and NADI PPR Taman Gum Gum.
Nearly 12,000 residents in Sandakan's NADI areas have benefited from various programmes and facilities offered, he said.
He said the programmes include Smart Services initiatives covering five key areas: entrepreneurship, lifelong learning, personal wellbeing, awareness campaigns and government initiatives.
NADI is a Communications Ministry initiative implemented through MCMC, providing internet access and technology exposure to local communities while improving socioeconomic standards through its facilities and activities.
Meanwhile, the HBK programme also featured a Safe Internet Campaign focusing on primary school children under 13, educating them about safe and ethical internet use, Fahmi said.
'This age group are active internet users but also among the most vulnerable to cyber risks. The campaign teaches children basic internet safety rules,' he said.
Fahmi said NADI Sim Sim, operational since October 2019, has successfully nurtured community entrepreneurs who now market their products online through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Shopee. — BERNAMASunday , 27 April 2025

Anwar to consult PKR sec-gen after Umno sends protest note over defections
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 20 — PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reportedly said today that he will consult party secretary-general Datuk Fuziah Salleh after Umno sent a protest note over its members jumping over. New Straits Times also reported the prime minister confirming the receipt of the letter today, echoing remarks by other party leaders. 'We received the letter some time ago. I will check with the secretary-general,' he told reporters on the sidelines of the Finance Ministry's monthly assembly here. Previously, PKR information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil had confirmed that the party has received the latter and its central leadership council will review the matter by the end of the month. This comes after Supreme Council member and Kota Raja Umno chief Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz announced his resignation from Umno and expressed his intention to join PKR on May 30. Tengku Zafrul said earlier this month his application to join PKR has since been approved and he is now a member of the Ampang division.

RM492bil spent on reform agendas under Budget 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of RM492bil has been allocated for reform agendas under Budget 2025 by the government, the Dewan Rakyat was told. The Communications Ministry said this consists of management expenditure amounting to RM335bil, development expenditure of RM86bil, non-fiscal government allocation of RM69bil and contingency savings of RM2bil. "The government also prepares various initiatives to complement public needs by reducing the cost of living, strengthening farmers and fishermen, stimulating the economy, encouraging entrepreneurship, uplifting the quality of life of the public and also improving dilapidated schools and clinics," it said in a Parliamentary written reply dated Aug 20. The Communications Ministry said it is always trying to improve the country's competitiveness, reduce bureaucracy, reform government administration and implement institutional reforms through bills, studies and strategic initiatives. "The establishment of the Special Task Agency on Reforms (Star) is the government's effort to improve the quality and efficiency of the public service," it said. It said the main focus of Star is to drive reforms and reduce bureaucracy, as well as review archaic rules. "Star also collaborates with various parties to improve national productivity and competitiveness," it said. "The Madani government stresses that this reform is not cosmetic or short term, but it is a continuous process to bring about thorough reforms for the betterment of the people and the country," it added. The Communications Ministry was responding to Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (Perikatan-Langkawi), who asked if the government is still using the narrative of reform.

MCMC develops child protection rules under Online Safety Act 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is drafting a subsidiary instrument under the Online Safety Act 2025 (Act 866) to enhance child protection and online risk management. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that the MCMC is exploring mandatory AI-generated content labelling for service providers. 'This initiative aims to help users identify misleading or manipulated content, reducing the spread of harmful information online,' he said. Service providers must also submit an online safety plan to ensure compliance with Act 866. Fahmi addressed the issue in response to a question from Datuk Shamshulkahar Mohd Deli (BN-Jempol) regarding AI-generated content regulations. He emphasised that Act 866 was enacted to strengthen online safety and regulate harmful material. An Online Safety Committee will be formed to advise the MCMC on digital safety matters. The committee will be led by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) and include licensed service providers. Fahmi also revealed that MCMC requested the removal of 439 deepfake-related fraudulent social media posts this year. Of these, 417 were successfully taken down, with Facebook being the primary source. - Bernama
