Taiwanese Influencer Known for Consuming Beauty Products on Camera Dies
A Taiwanese influencer Guava Shuishui, known online as Guava Beauty, died an unexpected death at the age of 24.
Shuishui, who had more than 12,000 followers on Instagram, was popular for her videos in which she would consume the beauty products she was reviewing.
Shuishui Died of a 'Sudden Illness'
A post written in Chinese and Korean on her Instagram account said she died on May 24 from a "sudden illness," according to an English translation. No further details were provided on the cause of her death.
"Although this trip came suddenly, Shuishui held on to every difficult moment just like she has always been – hard-working, serious, and shining," the post read. "Thank you to everyone who has liked, left a message and laughed with her, and thank you for your love and support. She really keeps it in her heart and cherishes it very much."
"Guava Shuishui simply continues to glow in a different place. When we meet again one day, she should be unboxing angels' exclusive makeup for eating broadcasts over there!"
Shuishui Was Known to Consume Beauty Products
In several videos, Shuishui could be seen applying cosmetic products to her face and then doing a taste test. In one popular video, she tried on a jelly blush before scooping the entire product out with a fork and biting down on it.
In the caption, she stated that children under six weren't allowed to watch her video and the product was "forbidden to eat." Shuishui had drawn criticism in the comments section for eating the product and questioned whether she would take responsibility if someone was misled by her video.
According to the South China Morning Post, social media users were speculating about the cause of Shuishui's death, with some suggesting she may have died due to poisoning from consuming the beauty products.

Megan, half-Singaporean member of Katseye, comes out as bisexual
Megan shared that she realised she was attracted to women as early as the age of eight. PHOTO: MEGANSKIENDIEL/INSTAGRAM Megan, half-Singaporean member of Katseye, comes out as bisexual Megan, a member of the global girl group Katseye, has publicly come out as bisexual. During a live broadcast on fan platform Weverse with fellow member Lara on June 6 , the 19-year-old shared her identity with fans, stating: 'I'm coming out. I'm bisexual.' The two celebrated the moment together, jumping in place with joy. Megan, who has a Singaporean-Chinese mother and American-Swedish father, debuted in the US with the six-member group in 2024. This marks the second coming out within the group. Back in March, Lara revealed her sexual orientation through a Weverse live broadcast. She shared that she realised she was attracted to women as early as the age of eight, and confessed that she was deeply afraid when auditioning. 'I didn't know if people would accept me. I was scared it might ruin my chances,' she wrote at the time. With both Lara and Megan now openly identifying as members of the LGBTQ+ community, Katseye stands out as a rare example of queer representation in the K-pop scene. The sextet is a multinational and multi-ethnic K-pop girl group formed by South Korean entertainment company Hybe in collaboration with American label Geffen Records. SailGP rides rising tide with celebrity owners, brands
FILE PHOTO: SailGP F50 team Canada competes in front of the Statue of Liberty after the start of the finals race during the SailGP sailboat racing event won by team New Zealand in New York Harbor, New York City, U.S. June 23, 2024. REUTERS/Mike Segar/File Photo NEW YORK - With new celebrity owners and a bevy of fresh sponsors, SailGP hopes to harness a wave of popularity and take the global sailing championship to the next level as it steers back to New York City to race for a third time this weekend. SailGP announced actors Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds as new owners of Australia's three-time champion team on Thursday, just as the ink was drying on the team's first title sponsor deal with BONDS. Reynolds led beleaguered soccer side Wrexham out of obscurity and into the English second-tier Championship with an injection of marketing wizardry, cash and a popular docu-series that quickly converted legions of American fans. SailGP is hoping for their Wrexham moment, too. "The fact that we can get that sort of involvement in one of the teams is amazing, and they'll have some fun with it too, which is what it's all about," Russell Coutts, the former Olympic champion who co-founded the league, told Reuters. It was the kind of news to which fans have become accustomed, as the operation co-founded by billionaire Larry Ellison catches fire with A-listers and snares more big-name brands six years after its launch. Oscar winner Anne Hathaway joined a female-led consortium that acquired the Red Bull Italy SailGP Team last week, while the competition itself named Rolex its title sponsor in November. More than 200,000 ticketholders watched SailGP events last year, as the league reported strong growth in social media engagement, snaring younger fans. The competition expanded to 12 teams for season five, with the addition of Brazil and Italy, and announced its new docuseries last month, part of a new content development push. "We had so many sort of naysayers out there saying this is like another sailing league, it'll be gone in two years, people have tried this and done it before, it never works and SailGP has totally broken down those boundaries," said Tom Slingsby, the CEO and driver for the Australian team. The 2012 Olympic gold medallist, whose team was rebranded as the BONDS Flying Roos, said he could not have imagined five years ago his team signing an iconic brand like BONDS, as they mull potential documentary options with Jackman and Reynolds. "I would have said that's not possible. There's no chance," he said. "But here we are." The leaders in the SailGP standings are not the only winners in the sponsorship race: On Monday, the U.S. SailGP team announced Amazon has signed on as a sponsor, joining existing brands like Tommy Hilfiger and T-Mobile. "You're starting to see really big brands come in and spend money in our sport," said Mike Buckley, the CEO and strategist for the U.S. SailGP team. "We're on everybody's radar now." Buckley put his money where his mouth is in 2023, helping lead a group of investors in the purchase of the U.S. team, locking in early for the league that hopes to become the "F1 of sailing". "Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts had a vision to build a TV product that the average racing fan would spend 90 minutes paying attention to," he said. "And I think they've done just that." The New York Sail Grand Prix is set for June 7-8. REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

E-Junkies: Katy Kung agreed to do tough labour in TVB reality show because 'might as well choose the most challenging one', Entertainment News
Hong Kong actress Katy Kung is an example of an artiste who goes all the way for her work, despite the challenging parts of the assignment. In a recent episode of TVB reality series A Day With A Pro, where artistes try out tough jobs, the 35-year-old is seen going all out as a maintenance worker, cleaning out cockroaches and faece-filled drainage systems. Speaking to AsiaOne on May 31 at StarHub's new flagship store in Paragon she said: "A lot of people asked why my company assigned me to do this show. That's actually not the case, they had asked me beforehand if I was okay to do related work like this. "I feel that since I agreed to do this, then I might as well choose the most challenging one. It was an unforgettable experience to have a chance to be exposed to work like this." Katy also recalled vividly of an instance where she opened up a drain cover and cockroaches skittered towards her. "I got quite a shock because they were running in my direction. If they were going in the opposite direction, then maybe I wouldn't be so afraid... I am actually okay seeing cockroaches, so long as they don't fly," she shared. She added that she experienced the tasks of a maintenance worker for two days for filming and while it was tough work, she also didn't want to delay the staff members. Katy shared: "To be honest, it was really tiring, but this was also a job where I had to coordinate with the other maintenance workers. So, I told myself that I needed to work faster, or they would have a difficult time too. "I couldn't just think about myself because everyone was also tired. It was a very hot day and there were no clouds at all. I just told myself to get the task done quickly so that the workers wouldn't have a tough time as well." A staff member offered her a lift home and told her later that the smell actually lingered in their vehicle for a few days. View this post on Instagram A post shared by 龔嘉欣 Katy Official (@kungkaty) Katy and TVB actor Him Law were in Singapore last weekend where they met and played games with fans at the StarHub flagship store in Paragon on May 31 and also performed outside Jurong Point the following day. She shared that she was last in Singapore about six years ago and looked forward to eating local food, especially black pepper crabs that evening. View this post on Instagram A post shared by AsiaOne (@asiaonecom) Katy arrived on May 31 and fans gathered at the airport to warmly welcome her. When asked how she felt meeting her fans, she said: "I actually felt quite apologetic today, because there was a delay, and I came out of the arrival hall late. But they were all waiting for me. "I had told them earlier not to come because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to take photos or sign autographs for them, but they were so nice, they waited for me for a long time and were also very enthusiastic. They even bought a pandan cake for me knowing that I love eating it." View this post on Instagram A post shared by hktvbfan (@hktvbfan) Katy also introduced her upcoming TVB drama The Map of Truth, which is expected to be released this year. She shared: "The title of the drama sounds like a variety show, but actually it's a drama. There is a small element of suspense, but it's also a touching story. There may be some scary scenes. It seems like audiences prefer series like this, such as Unchained Medley (2023)." The Map of Truth tells the story of feng shui expert Master Zhuang Yichen (Wayne Lai) who creates a social media channel to discuss and visit places with supernatural elements. As he gains popularity for his content, sceptic influencer Bi Ping (Katy) uses scientific explanations to debunk Master Zhuang's discussions and the two begin a fight to outwit each other, with the line between superstition and reality becoming increasingly blurred. Katy said that while filming the drama, they visited "almost every cemetery in Hong Kong" and shared an unforgettable experience she had. She recounted: "There was a day when I drove myself to the filming location, which was in a cemetery. The cemetery doesn't seem to be maintained and is located at the top of a mountain. A staff member told me [over the phone] that they would arrive in about half an hour, and I could meet them there, so I drove over. "But when I reached there, there was not a single person in sight. I thought I went to the wrong location, but when I called them, I was told that they had a delay and would arrive in another half an hour. I was alone at the cemetery, so I quickly lowered my car seat and closed my eyes to wait for them. That was quite an unforgettable experience." When asked if it was during the day or night, she responded that it was the former, adding with a laugh: "If it was nighttime, I would have left immediately."
