"Fell Behind My Worst Expectations": Doctor's Emotional Post Over Pay Cut

NDTVa day ago
A doctor has opened up about the toll of spending years in academic preparation, only to see a drastic fall in his earnings. Vamsi Krishna, in a social media post, explained how repeated attempts and long years of preparation left him feeling like a "failure".
"It sucks being stuck despite the grind, knowing you're capable of more but still falling short," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Mr Krishna shared that he dropped two years during his undergraduate entrance journey and another two years while preparing for postgraduate medical exams.
During this time, his earnings shrank from Rs 1.57 lakh to Rs 61,300 and further down to Rs 54,500. Despite putting in what he believed was his best effort, he admitted that his results fell short of even his lowest expectations.
"Not for sympathy, but it feels like failure," he admitted.
From 1.57L>61.3k >54.5k.
Dropped 2 yrs for UG, 2 more now.
Gave what I thought was my best, yet fell behind even my worst expectations.
It sucks being stuck despite the grind, knowing you're capable of more but still falling short.
Not for sympathy, but it feels like failure.
— Dr. Vamsi Krishna (@drdoddipalli) August 19, 2025
The raw honesty soon caught the attention of many.
A user wrote, "Please stay strong. I know what it feels like. Degrees are never a measure of one's capability or success. When one door closes, some other door definitely opens. Be patient."
Another wrote, "Hang in there .. maybe change the strategy.. You can do so much better than this.. I have faith in you."
Someone said, "With all honesty. Not going to sugarcoat anything here. Do not get stuck in the loop. Even if you feel you've given your best or at least up to 60-70%, be wise and make a calculated decision of what branches of your interest are available and how you can take that seat."
India's medical education system is said to be one of the toughest in the world. The post came after the declaration of the NEET-PG 2025 results on Tuesday.
The cut-off was set at the 50th percentile for General and EWS candidates, 45th for UR-PwBD, and 40th for SC, ST, and OBC candidates. Individual scorecards will be available for download from August 29, while counselling for the All-India Quota (50%) is expected to begin soon.

Missing tags: MC struggles with pet registrations

Ludhiana: The abundance of pet shops, salons, and clinics suggests that Ludhianvis love to pamper their pets. However, pet registrations tell a different story. For residents, showering love on their furry friends is one thing—getting them registered with the Municipal Corporation (MC) is quite another. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Over the past five years, the MC has registered only 3,321 pet dogs. Authorities, who do not have data on the total number of pet dogs in the city, have been lenient with those failing to register their pets. Despite several cases of pet dogs attacking neighbours and passersby, the MC has not enforced accountability on owners. The civic body has now issued a fresh appeal for pet registration, but it remains to be seen whether this will lead to any change. MC officials attribute the lack of action to a manpower crunch. Benefits of Registration Residents who register their pets with the civic body receive a unique identification code/token, which aids in identification and increases the chances of recovery if a pet goes missing. A nominal fee of Rs 500 per annum is charged for registration, and a brass token is issued for each registered pet. To register pets, residents can visit the official website of the civic body, fill out the form, and upload details/photos of their pets and themselves. Proof of vaccination must also be uploaded. After registration, owners can collect the token from the civic body's veterinary branch office near Middha Chowk. The token must be attached to the pet's collar, and registration must be renewed annually in April. The MC Commissioner, stating that Ludhiana was among the first cities in the state to initiate pet registration, urged residents to come forward for the welfare of pets. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He also warned that penalties would be imposed on those who fail to comply. Launch of Pet Registration The pet registration programme was launched in June 2020 for dogs and cats. The MC announced strict action against defaulters, including a 100% penalty for non-registration. In the first year, the MC received a good response, with around 2,000 applications submitted. Interestingly, very few of those who registered their pets in the first year returned for licence renewal, even though annual renewal is mandatory. Previous Efforts The MC offered pet registration services at the veterinary hospital of GADVASU and planned to introduce it at the dog park. However, these initiatives did not yield the desired results, and the dog park project also failed. Well-Intended but Poorly Implemented The MC General House sanctioned bylaws for pet registration, control of stray animals, and compensation for victims of animal attacks in a meeting held on September 23, 2019. The registration fee for small pets like dogs, cats, pigs, and goats is Rs 400, while for larger animals like cows, buffaloes, elephants, and horses, it is Rs 350 per animal. These bylaws aimed to curb the practice of letting cattle stray. Revenue generated through registration fees and penalties was intended to fund the maintenance of cattle pounds, compensation for victims of stray animal attacks, premiums for third-party insurance of registered animals, and costs related to identification and veterinary care of stray animals.
