West Indies level ODI series with Pakistan as Chase

TAROUBA, Trinidad and Tobago: The West Indies beat Pakistan by five wickets on Sunday as Roston Chase and Justin Greaves led the charge with the bat to level the one-day series between the sides.
Chase had 49 runs and Greaves was not out for 26 with a thrilling selection of fours and sixes in a game shortened by rain delays in Tarouba.
Earlier, West Indies' poor start was steadied by Sherfane Rutherford's 33-ball 45 to put the home side back in the driving seat.
Chase sealed the deal by steering a delivery from Hasan Ali through cover for four and he punched the air in celebration.
"I'm happy with the win. We had to come in and level the series, so very pleased," Chase, who was named man of the match, said.
The decisive third match of the series takes place at the same venue on Tuesday.
FIFTH BOWLER DILEMMA
Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan acknowledged a dilemma over the fifth bowler and said they would take a late decision on their team combination for Tuesday's series decider.
Pakistan, who won the opening ODI by five wickets, posted a competitive 171-7 in 37 overs in a rain-truncated match but West Indies prevailed by five wickets to draw level in the three-match series.
Pakistan's part-time duo of Saim Ayub and Salman Agha conceded a combined 66 runs in seven wicketless overs as West Indies cruised home.
"You could say our fifth bowler gave away too many runs but in recent years, Salman Agha and Saim Ayub have both bowled well for us," Rizwan said after the match.
"Saim didn't have the best day today, but he performed well in the T20Is. That's just part of the game."
Rizwan said they could not read the conditions and several rain delays did not help their cause.
"Honestly, the weather forecast has been completely different from expectations, and it's hard to read.
"We're keeping our options open and will finalise the XI after assessing the conditions."
Pakistan had won the preceding Twenty20 series 2-1. -- Agencies

Clutch Maxwell leads Australia to T20 series win over South Africa

Cairns, Australia: Glenn Maxwell took a brilliant catch before smashing a half-century under pressure to help Australia overcome a dogged South Africa by two wickets and seal the three-match Twenty20 series in Cairns on Saturday. In response to South Africa's 172-7, Australia were in trouble at 122-6 in the 14th over before Maxwell stepped up with an unbeaten 62 off 36 balls. There was a late twist when South Africa quick Corbin Bosch dismissed Ben Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis with consecutive deliveries. But Maxwell crunched a boundary on the penultimate ball of the match before celebrating with gusto. Hot favourites Australia won the first match but were stunned by a 52-run defeat in game two before moving to Cairns in northern Queensland, which hosted its first T20 international. "It was a little nerve-racking", Maxwell said. "I tried to stay on strike as much as I could and cash in on anything loose". Australia captain Mitchell Marsh elected to field in helpful conditions for seam bowlers, a contrast to the batting-friendly surfaces used in the opening two games in Darwin. Veteran quick Josh Hazlewood rebounded from an errant performance in game two by dismissing captain Aiden Markram for one in the first over. Lhuan-dre Pretorius hit a quick-fire 24 before falling to Ellis, bringing to the crease Dewald Brevis who smashed a South African T20 record of 125 not out in game two. He crunched his sixth delivery onto the roof before a diving Maxwell dropped a tough one-handed chance at long-on. Brevis motored to his half-century off 22 balls. Maxwell, a brilliant fielder, redeemed himself in the 12th over with a superb diving catch in the outfield to halt Brevis' charge on 53. South Africa's innings ran out of steam and their total appeared well short when Marsh dominated a 66-run opening partnership with Travis Head. But South Africa hit back with the quick wickets of Head (19) and Josh Inglis for a first ball duck. Marsh made 54 before holing out to 19-year-old quick Kwena Maphaka, who later in the 11th over dismissed Cameron Green (nine). Australia's collapse of 6-56 was complete when in-form Tim David (17) and Aaron Hardie (one) were dismissed before Maxwell took over. The Australian players wore black armbands in honour of former captain and coach Bob Simpson, who died at the age of 89. David's 83 powers Australia to first T20 win over South Africa in Darwin

Darwin, Australia: Tim David crunched eight sixes in a blistering 83 from 52 balls to help Australia beat South Africa by 17 runs in their opening Twenty20 clash in Darwin on Sunday. After being sent in, the hosts were all out for 178 on the final delivery of their 20 overs in the first game of international cricket in Australia's tropical north for 17 years. Cameron Green (35 off 13) was the only other batsman to get going, with left-arm quick Kwena Maphaka bagging 4-20 as South Africa bowled out Australia for the first time in a T20. But David's phenomenal innings proved enough, with the Proteas restricted to 161-9 in reply. That was despite a battling 71 from Ryan Rickelton, who fell to a spectacular Glenn Maxwell catch on the boundary. Josh Hazlewood took 3-27 and Ben Dwarshuis 3-26. "Great way to start the series," skipper Mitchell Marsh said after Australia's ninth T20 victory in a row. "Certainly, we want guys like David to come out and bat the way he did, he was the difference." Backing up from a recent 5-0 series sweep against the West Indies, Australia signalled their intent early with Marsh slamming a six off the first ball. But he lost opening partner Travis Head (two) and Josh Inglis (golden duck) in the space of three deliveries and then skied Kagiso Rabada on 13, with Maphaka taking a tricky catch before Green and David let loose. They put on a quickfire 40 for the fourth wicket before Green was undone by a slower ball from Lungi Ngidi. Australia were in trouble on 75-6 when Mitch Owen was out for two and dangerman Maxwell went for one. But David dug in and, with Dwarshuis (17), added 59 for the seventh wicket. David was dropped by Tristan Stubbs on 56, although Stubbs made amends by holding the catch that finally removed the big Australian after a power-packed knock. South Africa's chase started badly with skipper Aiden Markram out to Hazlewood in the first over, and they had lost three wickets for 48 by the sixth over. Rickelton and Stubbs (37) knuckled down in a threatening 72-run stand but Hazlewood struck again with two wickets in an over to shatter their momentum. South Africa's hopes were all but over when Adam Zampa matched Hazlewood's feat in the next over. "It got close, but we were pretty far from our best tonight," Markram said. The second of the three-game series is in Darwin on Tuesday. — AFP
