3-day The Hindu Home Expo opens at LuLu Mall in Thiruvananthapuram

The Hindu25-07-2025
The eighth edition of The Hindu Home Expo got off to a glittering start at the LuLu Mall here on Friday (July 25). The event, presented by Cera Sanitaryware Ltd and powered by Canara Bank, features over 125 properties by top builders.
The expo, which has 52 stalls and sees participation by 40 builders and four banks, offers home buyers attractive rates from builders and reduced interest rates from banks. Projects approved by the Kerala Real Estate Regulatory Authority (K-RERA) are on sale at the expo which will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. till Sunday (July 27).
In his inaugural address, Kadakampally Surendran, MLA, said the latest edition of The Hindu Home Expo is happening at a critical juncture when the State capital is witnessing rapid expansion, providing ample opportunities for the real estate sector and home buyers.
'Much of this urban expansion is centred on the Kazhakootam region and its environs. With the development of Technopark progressing at great speed, Thiruvananthapuram is rapidly transforming into a city of techies with nationally and internationally-renowned companies getting established there. By the end of this year, the new stage of Technopark is expected to add close to one lakh more employees,' Mr. Surendran said.
S.N. Raghuchandran Nair, convener-general, Confederation of Real Estate Developers Associations of India - Kerala (CREDAI Kerala), and president, Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce, said this was the right time to have the expo, given the fact that Thiruvananthapuram is in a 'take-off stage' development-wise. The exemption of income tax up to ₹12 lakh is expected to see an increase in disposable income, driving potential investment in properties, apartments and vehicles, he said.
Sandeep Abraham, president (sales), Cera Sanitaryware Ltd, and guest of honour at the event, said the real estate sector in Thiruvananthapuram, a city which now boasts one of the biggest ports, is transforming fast. 'The landscape has changed. It shows the story of the economic growth that the city is witnessing,' Mr. Abraham said.
Sunil Kumar S., general manager and circle head, Canara Bank, and guest of honour, said the bank was elated to be associated with the expo. He urged home buyers to make use of the opportunity to own their dream home by participating in the event.
K.K. Joshy, assistant vice-president and Kerala business head, said that The Hindu Home Expo, which is now in its eighth edition, has consistently received overwhelming response. 'The objective is to offer a common platform for buyers and builders,' he said.
Offering felicitations, Arun A. Unnithan, president, CREDAI Thiruvananthapuram, said that CREDAI Thiruvananthapuram members have had encouraging results from the expo in the previous editions.
The Hindu Home Expo will also be conducted at the LuLu Mall, Kochi, from August 1 to 3.

Canara Bank FD and savings Interest Rates Revised: Check Latest Slabs

Last Updated: Canara Bank updated FD and savings account rates effective August 7, 2025. General customers earn 3.25%-6.50% on FDs, seniors 3.25%-7%. Canara Bank FD and savings Interest Rates: Public sector lender Canara Bank has revised its fixed deposit (FD) and savings account interest rates for both general customers and senior citizens, with the changes taking effect from August 7, 2025. For callable FDs below Rs 3 crore, general customers will now earn between 3.25% and 6.50%, with the highest rate of 6.50% offered on the 444-day deposit. Callable FDs allow premature withdrawals, though a 1% penalty applies for early closure, partial withdrawal, or premature extension — a rule in place since March 2019. Senior citizens will continue to enjoy higher returns, with rates ranging from 3.25% to 7%. The 444-day FD offers the best deal for seniors, fetching 7% interest. Interestingly, the rate revision comes a day after the RBI kept the repo rate steady at 5.5% in its August 6 policy review. The central bank has cut the repo rate by 100 basis points so far in 2025, prompting many banks to trim deposit rates. On the savings account side, Canara Bank has lowered its rates across certain slabs. Interest will now range from 2.55% to 4%, depending on the account balance, compared with the earlier 2.70%–4% range. It came despite RBI kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.55 per cent in August MPC meet. view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: August 13, 2025, 15:15 IST News business » savings-and-investments Canara Bank FD and savings Interest Rates Revised: Check Latest Slabs Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Maharashtra, SBI lead in student loan disbursals over three years

New Delhi: Public sector banks have pumped in massive funds to support higher education in India over the past three years, with State Bank of India (SBI) emerging as the undisputed leader in disbursals and Maharashtra topping the state-wise charts. According to data presented in the Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, SBI disbursed a whopping Rs 32,311 crore in education loans between FY 2022-23 and 2024-25, nearly three times higher than its nearest competitor, Union Bank of India, which sanctioned Rs 14,559 crore. Bank of Baroda followed in third place with Rs 8,469 crore, trailed by Canara Bank at Rs 7,094 crore and Punjab National Bank at Rs 5,005 crore. In the state-wise tally, Maharashtra recorded the highest education loan disbursals, receiving Rs 11,426 crore during the period. Kerala stood second with Rs 8,938 crore, closely followed by Andhra Pradesh at Rs 8,101 crore. Tamil Nadu (Rs 7,199 crore) and Telangana (Rs 6,179 crore) rounded off the top five. The data also revealed significant lending in Karnataka (Rs 5,721 crore), Uttar Pradesh (Rs 3,461 crore) and West Bengal (Rs 3,156 crore), reflecting strong demand for higher education financing across the country. On the flip side, smaller states and Union Territories saw minimal activity - Lakshadweep, for instance, received just Rs 0.17 crore, while Mizoram (Rs 9.93 crore) and Arunachal Pradesh (Rs 10.40 crore) also had negligible disbursals. However, repayment challenges persist. SBI, despite its massive lending, reported Rs 336 crore in Gross NPAs on education loans as of March 2025 (provisional). The List also includes Punjab National Bank (Rs 431 crore), Canara Bank (Rs 322 crore), and Indian Bank (Rs 277 crore), amongst others. The figures highlight both the growing reliance of Indian students on bank financing for higher education and the ongoing need to strengthen repayment mechanisms, particularly in states with high loan exposure.
