Three terrorists gunned down in J-K's Shopian; army says op ongoing
The security forces killed three terrorists in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday.
Taking to X, Additional Directorate General of Public Information wrote, "On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a #RashtriyasRifles Unit, about the presence of terrorists in the general area of Shoekal Keller, #Shopian, #IndianArmy launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire, and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in the elimination of three hardcore terrorists (sic)."
The ADGPI further said that the operation is still in progress.
This comes just days after both India and Pakistan announced an "understanding to stop all firing and military action". Both India and Pakistan engaged in cross-border drone and missile strikes, which came after India launched ' Operation Sindoor ' on terrorist infrastructure at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The coordinated missile strikes were in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists.
It is worth noting that earlier today, Jammu and Kashmir police released photos of three terror suspects for their alleged involvement in the Pahalgam attack and announced a reward of ₹20 lakh.

Pakistan claims 11 military personnel killed
Pakistan on Tuesday claimed that its 11 military personnel were killed and 78 others injured during the recent military confrontation with India, PTI reported.
In a statement, the Pakistani military also claimed that 40 civilians died and 121 others were injured on the night of May 6-7, when India launched 'Operation Sindoor'. India has maintained that the precision strikes were launched to destroy terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK, and military installations and civilians were not the target.

Nashik civic body starts repairing city roads, fills over 6,000 potholes in a week
Nashik: With the rain taking a break, the Nashik Municipal Corporation's (NMC) public works department has commenced extensive road repair operations across the city. The civic administration announced on Tuesday that it had successfully filled 6,226 potholes across the six divisions within the last week alone. These crucial road repair efforts began ahead of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis's two-day visit to Nashik city on Sunday and Monday. During his visit, the chief minister travelled through various city roads while attending multiple programmes. The condition of roads in Nashik had significantly worsened due to continuous heavy rainfall last month, posing considerable risks to motorists. Furthermore, roads excavated by Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) for laying piped natural gas pipelines added to the deterioration. While the NMC had initially planned to begin repair works from May 15, persistent showers prevented these efforts. Now, with the rainfall having ceased, the civic body has been able to fully embark on its road repair agenda. An NMC official, while talking to TOI, said they conducted a fresh survey of the city roads and found around 9,000 potholes in various parts of the city. "The roads that were dug up by the MNGL and other agencies for various purposes deteriorated the road conditions of most of the city roads. We have also started repairs of such roads. We also gave work orders to the agencies concerned for road repairs and resurfacing of some stretches of the city roads amounting to Rs 90 crore," the official added The official said all the city roads are to be repaired in the next couple of weeks.

Dhaka to send diplomatic note to Delhi over 'illegal push-ins'
DHAKA: Bangladesh foreign affairs adviser Md Touhid Hossain Tuesday accused India of declaring "people" foreigners and "pushing" them into his country without following the process of deportation. Dhaka will send a diplomatic note to New Delhi on the issue, he said. The deportation of illegal Bangladeshis by India started following a nationwide verification drive after the April 22 Pahalgam attack and picked up pace since Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7. Under the deportation process, each case is being reviewed individually and only verified citizens will be repatriated, but "India is resorting to cross-border push ins", Hossain said. "We will send a new, substantive letter," he stated, adding. "We see that push-ins are still happening. But it is not something we can physically stop." India has provided Bangladesh with a list of individuals it claims are Bangladeshi nationals. Dhaka has accepted some of them following verification, Hossain said. He stressed that there is a formal mechanism in place for addressing consular issues and that Bangladesh is working to ensure all actions adhere to procedures. Bangladesh remains in regular communication with India, he said. About deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's pending extradition, Hossain said that there has been no new response from parties concerned. While a second letter hasn't yet been sent, he indicated it may be issued if necessary.

Finance ministry, RBI & NPCI tighten digital fraud safeguards
NEW DELHI: Union finance ministry, along with Reserve Bank of India and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has rolled out several crucial measures to secure digital financial transactions and combat fraud, official sources said, rejecting allegations that frauds have soared. The ministry of home affairs had set up Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) in Jan 2020 as the national agency for a coordinated response to all cybercrimes. The total number of digital payment frauds was 63,315, as reported by commercial banks and all India financial institutions under the specific category 'card/internet and digital payments' (for amounts involving Rs 1 lakh and above) between 2014-15 and Dec 2024 (covering a period of nearly 10 years), the sources said citing official data. The total extent of financial loss attributed specifically to these digital payment frauds during this period amounted to Rs 733.26 crore, sources said. Detailing steps taken by finance ministry, they said these included setting up of an online searchable database of frauds reported by banks - central fraud registry - by RBI to enable timely identification, control and mitigation of fraud risk. Credit discipline has been instilled through enactment of Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code, setting up of Central Repository of Information on Large Credits by RBI to collect, store, and disseminate credit data to lenders, sources added.
