How Andy Lau played Hong Kong's most corrupt cop in The Godfather-like crime epic Lee Rock
Lau, who cut his teeth at Hong Kong broadcasting company RTHK, made his name with two documentary-style social realist dramas: 1988's Gangs and 1990's Queen of Temple Street – still one of the city's finest films.
But his follow-up, the two-part Lee Rock, was something entirely different: a four-hour-long
Godfather -like crime epic divided into two films.
Halfway through shooting, Lau and producers
Wong Jing and Jimmy Heung Wah-sing decided that rather than cut the story down to two hours – which was still 30 minutes longer than the 90 minutes mandated by cinema owners at the time – they would release two films weeks apart.

Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura molested interpreter, Hong Kong court hears
Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura molested a female interpreter and made unwelcome advances after a fan event in Hong Kong earlier this year, a court has heard. Kamimura, a former member of Japanese boy band ONE N' ONLY, returned to West Kowloon Court on Wednesday to stand trial for a count of indecent assault arising from an alleged incident at Ming Kee Restaurant in Mong Kok in the early hours of March 2. The courtroom was packed on Wednesday, with the 316 tickets set aside for public seating all distributed. Most of the public attendees were from mainland China and arrived with luggage and bulky-looking backpacks. Some of them were told off by security staff for trying to make instant noodles during court adjournments. The complainant, who testified for the prosecution through a live video link, said she had provided interpretation for Kamimura and 20-year-old Japanese actor Junsei Motojima during a fan meeting at Regala Skycity Hotel the previous day. The court heard the two celebrities and their assistants had gone to the restaurant to celebrate the event's success. The interpreter said Kamimura repeatedly made swiping and tapping motions to touch her left thigh after joining her table of nine people.
