Kazakhstani companies will be responsible for 60% of the total project scope, which will be managed, implemented and resourced with a local Kazakhstan-based workforce.
The Astana smart city project follows other Presight projects with Kazakhstan's Ministry of Digital Development, Samruk-Kazyna and Astana Hub.
Presight expands its Astana office as it grows presence in Kazakhstan and the wider Central Asia region.
Astana, Kazakhstan – Presight, a leading global big data analytics and applied intelligence company, has signed a USD $190 million, six-year agreement with the Akimat (municipal government) of the City of Astana to deploy an AI-powered smart city project to digitize urban infrastructure, enhance traffic management, and modernize public services.
The Astana smart city project will deliver community-wide benefits from reduced traffic and congestion to faster emergency response times. The AI-powered nation-building project is designed to enhance Astana's liveability, sustainability, citizen services, and digital transformation agenda. It will see the introduction of sensors and IoT-enabled infrastructure to create a digital twin of the city, which will improve liveability, safety and community wellbeing.
Kazakhstani companies will be responsible for 60 percent of the total project scope of the smart city project, ensuring that jobs, in-country value creation and investment remains in Kazakhstan.
The smart city project closely follows other major announcements for Presight in Kazakhstan. In 2024, the Kazakhstan Ministry of Digital Development, in collaboration with Samruk-Kazyna, the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Kazakhstan, appointed Presight to develop a state-of-the-art AI supercomputer and data center cluster to enable the country's digital transformation initiatives.
In 2023, Presight also partnered with Astana Hub, the largest international technology park for IT startups in Central Asia, to power venture financing deals for startups.
To complement the Astana smart city project and Presight's other nation-building initiatives in Kazakhstan, Presight today also announced the expansion of its Astana office to better service in-country projects as it grows operations in Kazakhstan and the wider Central Asia region.
Thomas Pramotedham, Chief Executive Officer of Presight, commented:
'We congratulate the City of Astana for being a global leader in the adoption of world-leading AI for smart city applications. This initiative underscores a commitment to leverage AI and data-driven solutions for more efficient, secure, and sustainable urban development.'
Through the responsible and ethical implementation of AI-driven solutions, citizens of Astana will experience improved public services, digitized infrastructure, enhanced healthcare access, and safer, more efficient urban environments.

Flydubai to add 12 aircraft in 2025 but still 20 short of goal

Flydubai will receive 12 new aircraft this year, though it remains 20 planes behind its original delivery projections, the airline's chief executive said Thursday. The Dubai-based carrier has taken delivery of seven Boeing 737 MAX 8s in 2025, with five more expected before year-end, bringing its fleet to 93 aircraft. In a report on Khaleej Times, CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith said the deliveries are part of a backlog that has been delayed in recent years, impacting the airline's expansion plans. Airlines in the UAE and globally have faced delays in aircraft deliveries, with Flydubai noting last year that Boeing's updated schedule had significantly affected its growth strategy. Despite the challenges, Flydubai has added 11 new destinations this year, including Antalya, Al Alamein, Damascus and Peshawar. Four more European destinations — Chisinau, Iasi, Vilnius and Riga — are scheduled to launch between September and December, expanding the carrier's network to more than 135 destinations in 57 countries. Financing for the first seven aircraft delivered this year has come from a mix of Islamic financing through Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, conventional debt from the National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah, and sale-leaseback agreements with JP Lease Products & Services and JLPS Ireland Limited. Al Ghaith said the additional aircraft will help the airline open new routes, optimize operations and strengthen Dubai's role as an international aviation hub.

Egypt: Cabinet approves rules for committees assessing residential rental areas

Arab Finance: The Egyptian cabinet has approved the rules and regulations governing committees tasked with assessing areas containing residential rental properties under Law No. 164 of 2025, as per a statement. The draft Prime Ministerial decree defines key terms, including 'rented premises,' referring to properties leased for residential purposes under the new law, and 'conflict of interest cases,' which cover situations where committee members or their first-degree relatives are owners or tenants in the area under review or have personal interests that could affect their work. It also introduces a point-based evaluation system, classifying areas as premium with a score of over 80 points, medium with a score from 40 to 80 points, and economic areas that received a total score below 40 points. According to the resolution, governors will form one or more inventory committees led by senior officials and including technical and legal experts, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, the Egyptian General Survey Authority, and the Real Estate Tax Authority. Committees will operate daily, excluding holidays, and must record detailed minutes of their work. The committees will divide areas into the three categories based on criteria such as location, building quality, average unit size, available utilities, road and transport networks, and public services. The annual rental value of properties, as defined under the Built Property Tax Law, will also be considered. Their findings must be completed within three months of the law's effective date and published in the Egyptian Gazette. Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Sherif El-Sherbiny announced that tenants meeting the eligibility requirements for alternative units under Article 8 of the law can apply starting October 1st via a unified electronic platform or through post offices nationwide, with applications open for three months. Applicants will be able to track their requests, complete documentation, and update information through their electronic accounts.
