A Standout Celebration Series: Galaxy Music Gala: 'A Musical Journey from Monaco to Macau' Triumphs
Honouring 30 Years of Bilateral China – Monaco Diplomatic Ties and Cultural Exchange with GEG Concert Extravaganza
MACAU SAR - Media OutReach Newswire - 28 May 2025 - On May 21, the Galaxy International Convention Center came alive with the enchanting sounds of string music, as melodies from the shores of the Mediterranean traversed thousands of miles to grace the coastline of Macau. Galaxy Macau™, the award-winning luxury integrated resort, presented a spectacular musical extravaganza—"Galaxy Music Gala: A Musical Journey from Monaco to Macau" - to commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Monaco. Over one hundred political, business, and classic music lovers gathered for an unforgettable evening where music spoke louder than words.
Mr. Troy Hickox, Head of Hotels & Lifestyle Development of Galaxy Entertainment Group ("GEG"), Director of Monte Carlo Societé des Bains de Mer ("SBM") paid homage to the significant ties between GEG and SBM in the welcoming speech, "GEG is delighted to host this concert in celebration of the ten-year anniversary milestone of its strategic partnership with SBM; an enduring partnership which underpins our commitment to extending Monaco's ties through partnership initiatives worldwide. In tandem with this concert, GEG is committed to hosting a series of annual exchanges with Monaco; including premier international cultural and artistic events – uniting renowned individuals, artists and performers and enriching Macau's artistic offerings. Through tonight's gala, we hope to reinforce the cultural connection between Macau and Monaco, fully leveraging Macau's distinctive advantage as 'One Base' – an 'exchange and cooperation base with the Chinese culture at its core – celebrating significant cultural collaboration'. As the 30th anniversary of official China-Monaco relations, 2025 is a year to celebrate all things that link China with Monaco, be it through culture, commerce, the culinary arts, or sport. GEG is committed to creating an ongoing legacy of luxury entertainment in Macau, hand in hand with SBM."
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Principality of Monaco to the People's Republic of China, H.E. Ms. Marie-Pascale BOISSON travelled to Macau especially to attend the concert as a guest of honour; delivering a heartfelt speech.
"As Ambassador of Monaco to China, I am so honored to be here this evening to share a very special musical event with you, initiated by GEG in this resounding celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Principality of Monaco."
The concert was spearheaded by world-renowned violinist Zhang Zhang, who took the stage alongside the esteemed Monaco Zhangomusiq Concertmasters Orchestra, the virtuoso guitarist Pablo Márquez, and Andrea Cesari, the principal French horn of the Monte Carlo Philharmonic. As the first song Horn Concerto began, the stage transformed into a vibrant crossroads of Eastern and Western cultures. The Baroque elegance of Monaco's Palace Square and the intricate fusion of East and West in Macao's Ruins of St. Paul's merged in a mesmerizing interplay of light and sound.
The concert's program was a masterpiece from Europe and beyond: the China premier of Gordon Jacob's "Horn Concerto" showcased Andrea Cesari's virtuosity, blending the boldness of brass with the delicate whispers of strings beneath the Galaxy Auditorium's soaring ceiling. Tchaikovsky's cherished "Serenade for Strings," reimagined with innovative arrangements, saw the viola and double bass sections weave a tapestry of sound reminiscent of moonlight glistening on Venice's canals. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Asian premiere of Manuel de Falla's iconic "Three Dances," adapted for guitar solo and conduct by Pablo Márquez. The guitar and string ensemble collaboration offered a fresh and captivating musical experience, prompting the audience to erupt in sustained applause for the adaptation's brilliance. In the concert's encore, young musicians from Pui Ching Middle School Macau and Lou Hau Middle School Macau joined artists from Monaco and France to present the cherished "Song of the Seven Sons" as a musical ode to Macau's love and longing for reunification with China. As the final note of the encore faded into silence, the entire audience rose to their feet, accompanied by rapturous applause. On this night of shared camaraderie, music transcended language barriers, with each note embodying the essence of cross-cultural dialogue that poignantly bridged time and space.
Founded in 2001, the Monaco Zhangomusiq Concertmasters Orchestra is a cultural diplomacy initiative dedicated to the Principality of Monaco, having performed alongside the Principality's ambassadors in various countries over the years. Concertmaster Zhang Zhang, a global music icon, has performed for leaders of both China and Monaco at high-level state visits at the invitation of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. She was the first Chinese musician to have joined the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and has been graced with the honor of being granted special permission from the Prince's Government to perform with members of the Monaco Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2007, she established the NGO "Zhangomusiq," which leverages concerts to support humanitarian, ecological, and educational projects worldwide.
On the 30th anniversary of China-Monaco diplomatic relations, the Monaco Zhangomusiq Concertmasters Orchestra, supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Monaco, embarked on a tour of China, with Macao as its first stop. Dedicated to deepening arts and cultural exchanges within the community and promoting the development of young talent in related fields, GEG hosted an extended activity "Galaxy Entertainment Group Presents: A Musical Journey from Monaco to Macau's Campus" on May 19, inviting Zhang Zhang and Pablo Márquez to Pui Ching Middle School Macau. During the visit, Zhang Zhang not only shared insights into her experience as a performer and her musical career, but also showcased her artistry to over 200 teachers and students, inspiring them to embrace challenges and pursue their dreams. Arranged by GEG, the two world-class musicians also led a masterclass with students, providing professional guidance to enrich their musical techniques and broaden their horizons through cultural exchange. Additionally, GEG extended special invites to students and members from Lou Hau High School, Pui Ching Middle School Macau, Macao Youth Symphonic Orchestra Association, University of Macau, Federation of Associations of Cultural Sectors of Macau, and Young Men's Christian Association of Macau, to attend the concert on the May 21, providing them with an opportunity to experience the captivating fusion of Chinese and Western cultures through music.
As a cornerstone project supporting Macau's ambitions as a "City of Performing Arts," the "Galaxy Music Gala" series presented by Galaxy Macau has already carved out a niche with landmark cultural events: following performances by legendary tenor Plácido Domingo, renowned pianist Lang Lang, and the beloved tenor Andrea Bocelli; culminating in the Monaco Zhangomusiq Concertmasters Orchestra's unforgettable performance. Galaxy Macau is committed to fostering culture as Asia's premier artistic destination, through world-class international performances, contributing to Macau's development as an "exchange and cooperation base with Chinese culture as its mainstream and co-existence of different cultures."

Trump says China has 'totally violated' Geneva deal with US on tariffs
U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday said China had violated an agreement with the U.S. to mutually roll back tariffs and trade restrictions for critical minerals and issued a new veiled threat to get tougher with Beijing. "China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US. So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. Trump said that he made a "fast deal" in mid-May with Chinese officials for both countries to back away from triple-digit tariffs for 90 days. He said he did this to save China from a "devastating" situation, factory closings and civil unrest caused by his tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese imports. Trump's message did not specify how China had violated the agreement made in Geneva, Switzerland and what action he would take against Beijing. But a U.S. official told Reuters said it appears China was moving slow on promises to issue export licenses for rare earth minerals. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer also told CNBC that China was not in compliance with the Geneva deal, adding: "The Chinese are slow-rolling their compliance, which is completely unacceptable and it has to be addressed." Greer said the flow of critical minerals from China, which had been cut off by Chinese trade countermeasures, has not resumed as called for by the Geneva agreement. A spokesperson for China's embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Spokespersons for the White House, the U.S. Treasury and the U.S. Trade Representative's Office also did not respond to requests for comment. On Thursday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News Channel that U.S. trade talks with China were "a bit stalled" and getting a deal over the finish line will likely need the direct involvement of Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Two weeks after breakthrough negotiations that resulted in a temporary truce in the trade war between the world's two biggest economies, Bessent said progress since then has been slow, but said he expects more talks in the next few weeks. The U.S.-China agreement to dial back triple-digit tariffs for 90 days prompted a massive relief rally in global stocks. But it did nothing to address the underlying reasons for Trump's tariffs on Chinese goods, mainly longstanding U.S. complaints about China's state-dominated, export-driven economic model, leaving those issues for future talks. TAG Heuer celebrates return to Monaco with 3 new limited-edition watches
There are circuits, and then there's Monaco — a serpentine ribbon of tarmac winding through Monte Carlo's glittering heart, the Holy Grail of motorsport drama. Narrow, treacherous, and intoxicatingly glamorous — it's here, amid the engine roars and Riviera splendour, that the TAG Heuer Monaco forged its identity. Born in 1969 and named after this crown jewel of Formula 1, the Monaco was a mechanical renegade — the world's first square, water-resistant automatic chronograph, and a timekeeper of daring, destined to famously ride shotgun in racing legend. This year, as TAG Heuer takes the pole position as the first-ever title sponsor of the Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco, it unveils a trio of Monaco watches. Each limited-edition piece tells its own story — of cinema, precision, and horological audacity. Monaco Chronograph x Gulf You can't mention the Monaco without invoking Steve McQueen — the epitome of racing cool — whose wrist famously sported a blue-dial Heuer Monaco in Le Mans. While the Gulf-striped Monaco wasn't the exact watch he wore, it stands as a vibrant tribute to the era, echoing the colours of McQueen's race car and suit. More than a timepiece, it's a symbol of his fearless spirit and TAG Heuer's deep-rooted connection to motorsport, capturing the raw energy of the track and the glamour of a time when style and speed collided gloriously. This 2025 edition revisits that electric moment with reverence and flair. Limited to 971 pieces, it revives the iconic left-side crown and square case configuration from 1969, powered by the Calibre 11. The dial is a symphony in silver grain, adorned with Gulf's unmistakable blue and orange racing livery — a palette that mirrors McQueen's suit and his Porsche 917K. The vintage Heuer shield above the dial seals the nostalgia. It's cinematic timekeeping in its most authentic form — a wearable reel of motor racing history. Monaco Chronograph Stopwatch TAG Heuer's second act is a tribute to timing itself — a love letter to the rugged, neck-worn stopwatches of the '60s and '70s. The Monaco Chronograph Stopwatch is more instrument than ornament. Encased in lightweight black DLC-coated titanium, the square form frames a stark black circular dial — a design echoing pit lane urgency. Red accents pulse across the minute track, while high-contrast subdials, faceted hands, and blackened indices sharpen the focus. At its heart ticks the Calibre 11, still anchored by Monaco's unmistakable left-side crown. Limited to 970 pieces, this model channels the spirit of Jack Heuer's relentless pursuit of clarity and function, where form follows pure purpose. Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph The final chapter in this special trilogy is the most radical — a timepiece that defies convention and flirts with the future. The Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph is more a leap than an evolution. Housed in TH-Titanium, a proprietary alloy with raw, elemental texture, this watch crackles with innovation. The TH81-00 calibre — crafted almost entirely from titanium — powers a split-seconds function that allows dual event timing, its lime green rattrapante hand slicing across the dial with razor precision. The checkered-flag rotor, hand-painted accents, and racing cues throughout transform it from tool to art. Every angle, every component is a reminder that racing — and watchmaking — are both theatres of ambition. Each of these limited editions is a distillation of the Monaco's essence: technical ingenuity, bold design, and a soul stitched to the Monte Carlo tarmac. With nostalgia-drenched elegance and cutting-edge engineering, these watches make TAG Heuer's return to Monaco more than a partnership — they mark an emphatic homecoming.

Wall Street futures down as Trump's tariffs stay put after latest court ruling
Wall Street futures slipped on Friday, as investors took stock of an appeals court decision to undo a prior ruling that had blocked most of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs, heading into the last trading day of a solid month for equities. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq are on pace for their best monthly showing since November 2023, while the Dow is also set for a near 4% monthly advance. Stocks have seen immense volatility this month on Trump's on-and-off tariff moves, though the S&P 500 has rebounded from its April low and now sits about 4% lower from its all-time high hit in February. U.S. equities had initially rallied on Thursday when the Court of International Trade ruled late on Wednesday to effectively block most levies imposed since January, but did not address some industry-specific tariffs. However, a federal appeals court on Thursday temporarily reinstated most of the tariffs and ordered the plaintiffs in the cases to respond by June 5 and the administration by June 9. "This week's courtroom drama has added another layer of uncertainty to what was already an unsettling series of events," Richard Hunter, head of markets at interactive investor, said in a morning note. Hopes of more trade deals between the U.S. and major trading partners, along with upbeat earnings and tame inflation data, have been some of the main drivers of gains in equities this month. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that U.S. trade talks with China are "a bit stalled" and getting a deal over the finish line will likely need the direct involvement of President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. At 5:14 a.m. ET, Dow E-minis were down 31 points, or 0.07%, S&P 500 E-minis were down 8.5 points, or 0.14% and Nasdaq 100 E-minis were down 36.5 points, or 0.17%. Most megacap and growth stocks inched lower in premarket trading, with Nvidia off 0.7% after gaining in the last session on reporting robust quarterly revenue growth. Chipmaker Marvell Technology shed 3.9% despite forecasting second-quarter revenue above estimates. Ulta Beauty gained 8.6% after the cosmetics retailer raised its annual profit forecast after beating quarterly results. Zscaler advanced 3.2% as the cloud security firm raised its annual profit and revenue forecasts and named Kevin Rubin as its chief financial officer. Later in the day, the Personal Consumption Expenditure data - the Fed's favored inflation indicator - is scheduled for release at 8:30 a.m. ET, which could shed more light on the U.S. Federal Reserve's interest rate trajectory. Trump called Fed Chair Jerome Powell to the White House late on Thursday for their first face-to-face meeting since he took office in January and told the central bank chief he was making a "mistake" by not lowering interest rates. Traders currently see at least two 25 basis points of cuts by the end of the year, according to data compiled by LSEG.
