England arrive at Downing Street to celebrate European Championship success
The Lionesses successfully defended their European crown with a 3-1 penalty shootout victory over Spain in the tournament's showpiece in Basel on Sunday.
Alessia Russo cancelled out the opener from Arsenal team-mate Mariona Caldentey and after drawing 1-1 following extra time, an entertaining final ultimately boiled down to penalties.
Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton made two brilliant saves in the shootout before Chloe Kelly fired home from the spot to ensure England retained their European title.
The Lionesses left their team hotel in Zurich on Monday morning with skipper Leah Williamson carefully escorting the trophy to the bus, and after returning to England the team headed for Westminster and a reception hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock.
The team arrived just before 7pm, with Number 10 decorated for the occasion with St George's flags draped over windows and bunting along the railings.
After almost a month of competition in Switzerland, the team's aeroplane branded with the word 'home' touched down at Southend Airport on Monday afternoon.
In a post on X, the team shared a photo of the Euros trophy draped in an England flag on a seat on the plane.
Holding the trophy, Williamson was first to step off the plane alongside head coach Sarina Wiegman.
Outside of the airport, crowds were lined up to welcome the team and the trophy back home.
A homecoming open-top bus parade follows in central London on Tuesday, where there will be a procession along The Mall and the celebration will finish with a staged ceremony at the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace.
A trip to the Palace or Windsor Castle may be on the cards for the winning squad as it is understood possible plans for a reception in the autumn are being explored by royal aides.
Defender Jess Carter has not joined her team-mates for the celebrations in London as she has returned to the United States ahead of Gotham FC's NWSL match against the Chicago Stars on Saturday.

As Anfield Watch , Ramos was on the club's radar as well this summer, if they were unable to get their main targets - which included Hugo Ekitike and Isak. Julian Ward is thought to be a particularly big fan of the Portuguese forward and wanted him signed over Darwin Nunez. In the end, that move never materialised but Liverpool's admiration remains for Ramos. Now though he holds the key to the entire Isak deal. It could all depend on him. Whether he would be open to moving to Newcastle, and playing regular football. Or whether he is content in Paris, coming off the bench.

REGIS Le Bris has been rewarded for leading Sunderland to the Premier League with a new long-term contract at the Stadium of Light. Twelve months after taking charge of the Black Cats, Le Bris has now committed his long-term future to the club, signing a new deal until the summer of 2028. Le Bris told of his delight at the deal and said there's a collective "desire to become stronger" at Sunderland, while sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said the contract "recognises Le Bris' contribution and continued commitment to the club". Florent Ghisolfi, who arrived as director of football this summer, said the contract reflects the club's "trust in the future" and told of the head coach's importance as the Black Cats look to establish themselves as a Premier League club following promotion. Le Bris was appointed as Sunderland's head coach in June last year on the back of a disappointing 17th place finish for the Black Cats in the Championship. The 49-year-old enjoyed an exceptional first season in England, which culminated in play-off final joy and promotion for Sunderland, who are now less than a fortnight away from playing Premier League football again after an eight-year absence. After his new contract was confirmed, Le Bris said: 'The connection I have with the staff, players, and supporters has been natural, and we shared many great moments together. "The collective ambition is there to see and now, there is a desire to become stronger. I can feel the energy and intent to push forward, and we need that in the next challenges we will face. In every part of the organisation, everyone has their own part to play, and we are all aligned.' Speakman said: 'Like every Sunderland supporter, I'm delighted we are announcing this contract extension for Régis. "It provides clarity going into the Premier League season, but more importantly it recognises his contribution and continued commitment to the club. NI's Burrows given 16-game ban for alleged assault
Cliftonville captain Kelsie Burrows has been handed a 16-match ban for an alleged assault on a match official. The Northern Ireland international was shown a red card by referee Simon Bickerstaff after the Reds' 2-0 win against Glentoran Women on 25 July. The suspension is effective immediately and covers all competitions but it is understood that the club are appealing against the decision, which means Burrows will be available to play in Friday's Premiership game against Crusaders Strikers. Team coach Brendan Lynch has been handed a three-match ban from the same game for "entering the field of play to confront a match official". The incident came after the final whistle of the victory over Glentoran, which put Cliftonville right in the mix at the top of the table as they currently sit six points off leaders Linfield with two games in hand. Cliftonville, the Irish Football Association and NIFL have been contacted by BBC Sport NI for comment.
