Lennon Miller 'filled with excitement' as £5m Udinese deal signed and Motherwell net record fee

Yahoo2 days ago
Lennon Miller has sealed his move to Serie A side Udinese in a record deal believed to be worth around £5m to Motherwell.
The deal until 2030 eclipses the £3.25m received from Celtic for David Turnbull in October 2020.
Scotland cap Miller and his entire family flew out to Italy yesterday, and celebrated step-mum Maria's birthday today, while the midfielder underwent his medical.

Speaking to the club website about his exit, 18-year-old Wishaw ace Miller admitted the Steelmen will hold a special place in his heart, but he is looking forward to a new chapter in his young career.
He said: 'Motherwell is all I've ever known.
'It's been my home since I was a young boy, and I've achieved my dream of playing in the first-team, playing in the big stadiums and wearing the armband.
'My thanks goes to all the supporters for taking me in. The support up and down the country every week has been exceptional. For all the coaches I've worked under and who have helped me improve as a player and as a man, thank you. I simply wouldn't be here without their guidance and support.
'To all the players who I've played alongside with, and for all the kind words they've said about me, thank you. My teammates have helped me through everything and allowed me to play with freedom.
'I want to also express my appreciation to all the staff behind the scenes at the club. Some are still there, some have moved on, but they all work so hard to keep the place going. You may not see first-hand the hard work and sacrifices they make, but having been in the building all these years, I can't thank them enough for everything they do.
'This is a new chapter in my life, and I move on filled with excitement. I may not be at Fir Park to cheer on the boys, but I'll be watching and following from afar. The club has a big place in my heart, and I will always be grateful. I wish all the lads the best for the rest of the season. Mon the Well.'
Chief Executive Brian Caldwell added: 'The time was right for all parties for Lennon to make the next move in his career,'
'He is an example of the pathway and model that exists at Motherwell and is a huge success story for everyone associated with the club.
'The sell-on included ensures we will be compensated should Lennon go on to a fruitful career beyond this move, something that was crucial for us.
'My thanks go to Lennon for his professionalism throughout this lengthy process, and I hope he goes on to have a successful and healthy career in the game.'
The former Coltness High School pupil last played for Motherwell in a 1-1 draw at Ross County on May 18 to end season 2024-25, having picked up a knock in a pre-season friendly against Carlisle United on July 8, missing the whole of the Premier Sports Cup group stages. He scored four goals last term.
He joins fellow Scots Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour in making the move to Italy.

📸 Brawl in Mallorca?! Barça match descends into pub fight

What happens in Mallorca outside the Schinkenstraße? Exactly, the same in green. The first half between Mallorca and FC Barcelona was completely wild. As so often, both teams went at it right from the start. After just 33 minutes, Mallorca's Manu Morlanes was sent off with a yellow-red card. Only six minutes later, Vedat Muriqi saw a straight red. The striker hit Barça's new signing Joan Garcia in the face with his foot. Don't worry, the Catalans retaliated: Raphinha came in way too late against the former Dortmund player Morey and completely took him down in injury time. To the disbelief of the hosts, he only saw yellow for brawl-like atmosphere continued even after the final whistle. As they headed to the locker room, several players clashed before the break finally came. If you're in the mood for a good boxing match – enjoy the second half. NFL preseason live updates: Dillon Gabriel's mixed bag debut, Colts QB battle heats up

[NFL preseason schedule | NFL team feeds | NFL preseason live blog] The second week of NFL preseason action is in full swing, and there are plenty of storyline to follow. Cleveland Browns rookie QB Dillon Gabriel saw his first action of preseason Saturday, and it was an up-and-down day for the third-round pick. He finished 13 of 18 for 143 yards passing but also turned it over twice. He thew a pick-6 and also lost a fumble on a botched handoff exchange, but he was otherwise solid and in control in the passing game. Meanwhile, the Colts QB battle continues to heat up with Daniel Jones looking good early, leading a field goal drive, and Anthony Richardson entering later and leading Indianapolis to a touchdown. Those two appear to be neck-and-neck for the starting job. Later this weekend, Caleb Williams is starting for the Bears on national television Sunday night vs. the Bills, our first glimpse of the 2024 No. 1 overall pick under new head coach Ben Johnson. That game headlines Frank Schwab's top QB situations to watch this week, along with Jaxson Dart's second preseason outing and more developments in the Saints' and Colts' QB battles. Justin Herbert will also play a preseason game for the first time in *checks notes* his entire career on Saturday when the Chargers square off against the SoFi Stadium co-tenant Rams. And Brock Purdy and some 49ers starters are expected to play against the Raiders on Saturday too. You can watch both of Friday's preseason games on NFL Network, and also on NFL+.
