"There could be some scattered showers along the coasts and in parts of south Bengal, but we don't expect heavy, consistent spells," said an RMC weather scientist.
A bulletin issued by the RMC on Sunday stated that the low-pressure area is likely to move west-northwestwards across south Odisha-north coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next 24 hours.
Widespread light-to-moderate rainfall, with heavy rainfall at one or two places, is very likely to occur over some districts of north Bengal, the RMC predicted.

Kinner Kailash Yatra closed due to bad weather conditions
1 2 Shimla: Kinnaur district magistrate Amit Kumar on Tuesday ordered the closure of the Kinner Kailash Yatra due to continuous rainfall, shooting stones, and foggy conditions, which have led to the loss of lives and continue to pose a serious risk to pilgrims. The decision was based on a proposal by the sub-divisional magistrate of Kalpa. The Kinner Kailash Yatra, which began on July 15, was scheduled to end on Aug 30. The pilgrimage was suspended multiple times due to incessant rainfall in the region. The district magistrate ordered that any pilgrim attempting the yatra route would be escorted back to the base camp, and violators would face action under the Disaster Management Act. The Kinnaur SP has been instructed to ensure adequate deployment of forces in coordination with the home guards and the deputy conservator of forests, Kinnaur, to facilitate the safe return of pilgrims. Each day, 350 pilgrims were allowed to undertake the yatra. The pilgrimage starts from Kalpa in Kinnaur district and ends at the 6,050-metre high peak of Kinner Kailash, considered the winter abode of Lord Shiva. Meanwhile, heavy rain triggered flash floods and in Kullu and Mandi districts, causing widespread damage to infrastructure. Desilting and deepening works begin at Ayani Thodu
Kochi: Irrigation department initiated steps to improve water flow and prevent waterlogging at Ayini Thodu, which runs through nine wards of Maradu municipality. Acting on the municipality's directive, the department began desilting and deepening works. The initiative is being carried out under 'Operation Vahini', aimed at strengthening local water management systems and minimising waterlogging in urban areas. Large amounts of silt and accumulated debris are being cleared to ensure smooth water flow, while the deepening work is expected to increase the carrying capacity of the canal. With the monsoon season underway, the project is expected to provide significant relief to residents. "Earlier, waterlogging was a major issue. Even light rain would inundate the area. Many residents even took steps to raise the ground floors of their homes to protect from frequent flooding," said municipality chairperson Antony Ashanparambil. Municipal officials also noted that similar desilting activities were conducted in previous years as well. "Last year, the encroachments were cleared, the canal was deepened, obstructed flow paths were realigned, and low culverts were replaced with elevated ones to facilitate smooth water flow. Regular implementation of such preventive measures helps to manage waterlogging in the municipality despite the incessant rains," said Ashanparambil.
