The mum had spent years putting her family first and pushing her own insecurities to the side.
After giving birth to her son Max, 11, and daughter Mila, six, she found herself battling low confidence due to loose skin, a 'mummy pouch' and a lack of shape – despite managing to lose over 20lbs through regular workouts.
When gym sessions didn't give her the results she was hoping for, Maleny, who lives in Orange Country, California, began looking into surgical options in the US – only to be hit with shocking price tags of up to £25,000.
Unable to justify the cost, the 32-year-old turned her attention abroad and explored medical tourism – eventually booking a consultation in Tijuana, Mexico.
'After having kids, I struggled with how my body looked, especially my tummy area,' Maleny told NeedToKnow.
'I had loose skin, a square shape and no matter how much I worked out, it just didn't bounce back.
'It made me feel really self-conscious.
'I would avoid taking photos from the front and always wear oversized shirts to hide everything.
'It affected how I showed up in everyday life.

'I avoided tight clothes; bikinis were out of the question.
'I just didn't feel confident and I stopped feeling like 'me' – the woman I was before kids.'

The transformation included an extended tummy tuck, Lipo 360, arm and inner thigh liposuction, a Brazilian bum lift and muscle repair – all for $7,800 (£6,200) with an additional $1,000 (£740) for a week-long recovery stay.
Despite initial concerns from friends and family, Maleny was confident in her decision.
She did thorough research and spoke to a friend who had also undergone surgery in Mexico.
Maleny, who is a content creator and full-time corporate employee, said: 'I was definitely nervous.
'It's a big decision and I didn't take it lightly.
'The thought of going abroad added to that at first, but once I did my research and found a surgeon I trusted, I felt at peace.
'The clinic was professional, the staff was amazing, and I felt very cared for throughout the entire process.
'[The reaction from people in my life] was mixed at first.
'Some were supportive right away, others had concerns – especially about travelling.
'But once they saw how well I was being taken care of and how happy I was with the results, their perspective shifted.
'Now, they're so proud of me for doing something for myself.'
Maleny had the surgery in April 2025.

Maleny said working out wouldn't cut it for her
During recovery, she experienced some discomfort, particularly from the muscle repair when sneezing or coughing – but overall found the pain manageable.
Now, three months post-op, she feels like a whole new person.
She said, 'It was emotional when I first looked at myself in the mirror.
'Even though I was swollen, I could see curves, a waistline and the flat stomach I hadn't seen in years.
'I cried, not out of vanity, but because I finally saw myself again.
'It was like I got a piece of myself back.'
The journey has not only changed her physically but emotionally too – giving her back the sense of self she lost after motherhood.
Her family and online followers have been hugely supportive.
Maleny has even shared her experience on TikTok, where she's been overwhelmed by the response – especially from other mums.
She added: 'It's changed everything.
'I show up more confidently, whether it's getting dressed, being on camera, or just playing with my kids.
'I'm no longer hiding under baggy clothes or cropping myself out of photos.
'It's not just physical; it gave me a new sense of self-worth.
'I feel like the best version of myself, and that energy spills into everything I do, including motherhood.
What are the risks of getting surgery abroad?
IT'S important to do your research if you're thinking about having cosmetic surgery abroad.
It can cost less than in the UK, but you need to weigh up potential savings against the potential risks.
Safety standards in different countries may not be as high.
No surgery is risk-free. Complications can happen after surgery in the UK or abroad.
If you have complications after an operation in the UK, the surgeon is responsible for providing follow-up treatment.
Overseas clinics may not provide follow-up treatment, or they may not provide it to the same standard as in the UK.
Also, they may not have a healthcare professional in the UK you can visit if you have any problems.

EAT FOR HEAT The eight foods that will keep you cool this summer including surprising hot drink and spicy dish Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) WITH temperatures soaring across the UK, Tesco has reported a surge of thirsty customers buying hydrating fruit. The supermarket chain has reported a ten per cent increase in sales of berries, melons, grapes and other varieties as people scoff healthy snacks to help them cool off in the sun. Here, Laura Stott reveals the perfect menu to eat in the heat. CURRY: Tucking into a spicy vindaloo can provide perfect nourishment in warm weather. Many popular Asian dishes contain coconut milk, which aids electrolyte balance. Ingredients such as turmeric and ginger boost circulation, helping you cool. Coriander helps with heat tolerance, while chili fires up our cooling mechanisms. CUP OF TEA: A hot brew when it's boiling can be surprisingly refreshing and helps to keep you hydrated. University of Cambridge boffins proved that – whether it's builders', Earl Grey or green tea – when a drink is warmer than the body, it activates heat receptors on your tongue which tell the body to sweat, cooling you. ONIONS: Eating an onion has many heat-busting benefits. Cooked or raw, the root veggies contain sulphur compounds that encourage perspiration to help lower your body temperature. They are also packed full of a cooling flavonoid called quercetin, which helps the body absorb hot-weather stresses. And circulation- boosting benefits lower body temperature further. Each hydrating allium also consists of around 90 per cent water. But whether you simmer meat, chicken or veggies, the fluids in your pot are great for hydration levels. Seasonings like salt are ideal for balancing electrolyte levels, and mixed vegetables provide vital hot weather handy minerals such as magnesium and potassium. To give it a summer twist, opt for a lighter stew with a broth base. 7 After an initial heat burst, a bowl of soup will help your body cool down Credit: Getty TOMATO SOUP: A bowl of soup might make you feel warmer initially – but sweating means your body will quickly begin to cool down. Any variety will boost your hydration, but this classic soup is a superb summer pick as tomatoes are 94 per cent water. They are also high in antioxidant lycopene, which can help protect your skin from the sun. You can even enjoy it chilled, as a Spanish-style gazpacho. 7 Pineapples keep you hydrated and are also packed with health benefits Credit: Getty PINEAPPLE: This tropical treat is packed with powerful anti-inflammatory bromelain, known to help the body combat the effects of heat and inflammation. It's also handy for aiding digestion, if the warm weather has upset your tum. With 86 per cent water, pineapple keeps you hydrated and will regulate your body temperature, too. Scoff in chilled slices or add to smoothies. MINT: Fresh mint contains menthol, which activates cold receptors in the mouth to help you cool naturally – as well as tasting refreshing. Plant a pot of peppermint or spearmint on the windowsill for garnishes or add a dried sprinkle from the freezer to dishes. It can also help with heat-induced headaches. ICE CREAM: Perhaps not the most nutritious warm-weather food but licking a cone on a scorching day will still help cool you down temporarily as the frozen treat hits your tongue. For longer- lasting benefits, a lighter fruit sorbet or lolly from the freezer will replenish more fluids. But both should raise a smile while it's scorching. 7 Fresh mint contains menthol, which activates cold receptors in the mouth to help you cool naturally Credit: Getty

More people than ever are turning to social media for information about cosmetic surgeries abroad, travelling for procedures like hair transplants or dental work. However, when things go wrong, the NHS is often left to pick up the cost. To help ensure patients have trustworthy information, the government and TikTok have partnered with medical influencers to create content showing the risks and advising on how to make trips as safe as possible. The highest-risk procedures, such as non-surgical Brazilian butt lifts, can only be carried out by qualified, specialised healthcare professionals, registered with the Care Quality Commission. Whilst measures will also include a licensing scheme for lower-risk procedures such as Botox and fillers, alongside minimum age restrictions. The government is also bringing in new regulations for cosmetic procedures in the UK. | Pexels, cottonbro studio Health Minister Karin Smyth said: 'Too many people are being left with life-altering injuries after going abroad for medical procedures, without access to proper advice or safeguards, often drawn in by deals too good to be true and promoted by influencers - some of whom have never been to the practice in question. 'By partnering with TikTok, we're helping people make safer, more informed choices before they go under the knife - wherever that may be. What should you consider before getting cosmetic surgery abroad? There are many things to consider before travelling abroad for cosmetic procedures or surgery. The new advice is calling on potential patients to talk with a UK doctor first and research the clinic they plan to travel to. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Check if the clinic is registered and the surgeon's credentials. The NHS advises that before deciding on a clinic, you should find out how surgeons and clinics are regulated in your chosen country and how standards are enforced. Before the procedure, you should have two consultations with the surgeon. This gives you a two-week cooling-off period, which is normally two weeks in the UK. What should you ask your surgeon? In these consultations, the surgeon should explain what the procedure involves, the limitations, alternatives, and any risks or complications. They should also be able to show you before-and-after pictures of their work. Plan for any risks or complications, ask what insurance the clinic or surgeon has and if it will cover you, find out what your travel insurance covers and how you'll get home in the case of an emergency, and most importantly, how much this will cost. In England, all hospitals and clinics that provide cosmetic surgery must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
