'War 2' marks the 14th Indian film production to be shot in Abu Dhabi with the support from CMA and ADFC.
Following the release of the official trailer by Yash Raj Films, the Creative Media Authority (CMA) and Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC) have announced that Abu Dhabi served as the primary filming location for War 2, the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War. Scheduled for global theatrical release on August 14, 2025, War 2 marks the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe, reportedly the most successful cinematic franchise in Indian film history.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner, War 2 brings together Hrithik Roshan and NTR, both celebrating 25 years in the industry with this milestone film. The action-packed story picks up with India's elite Agent Kabir, played by Hrithik, having gone rogue, while Agent Vikram, played by NTR, is tasked with bringing him to justice. Kiara Advani also stars in the thriller, which features intense action sequences and visuals shot across Abu Dhabi and Yas Island.
The production of War 2 marks the 14th Indian film supported by CMA and ADFC to be filmed in Abu Dhabi, reinforcing the Emirate's growing reputation as a reliable and world-class destination for major Indian film projects. It also represents the third collaboration between Yash Raj Films and Abu Dhabi, following the successful productions of Tiger Zinda Hai and Bunty Aur Babli 2. These repeated partnerships underscore the Emirate's value to the Indian film industry through its diverse locations, skilled crew, and robust production incentives.
Speaking about the filming, Mohamed Dobay, Acting Director General of Abu Dhabi's Creative Media Authority, commented: 'India's film industry remains at the forefront of partnerships we are establishing and growing with production teams like Yash Raj Films, whose legacy spans over five decades, brings incredible talent into our nation to see all that Abu Dhabi has to offer in terms of variety of location, established industry talent, experienced and supportive film commission and of course financial assistance so that Abu Dhabi continues to attract global production from India and beyond.'
Sameer Al Jaberi, Head of Abu Dhabi Film Commission, said: 'The recent trailer release has certainly engaged film fans and heightened the anticipation for War 2, and for the local crew, including three talented interns, the countdown to what promises to be an electrifying follow-up to War, has begun. We look forward to seeing Abu Dhabi on the big screens in cinemas across the world and also feel immense pride at our collective and wide-ranging efforts which have established Abu Dhabi as a home for Indian cinema as this is our 14th major Indian film production to be supported in the Emirate.'
War 2 will be released worldwide in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and is among 180 major productions that have benefited from ADFC's rebate initiative.
