With iPhone 17 and Galaxy S26, Apple and Samsung are diverging hardware strategies
From what I can tell, Samsung is applying its design philosophy for the Galaxy S25 Edge to its top tier model, while Apple is opting for more battery space instead.
If current rumors ( not confirmed reports ) are anything to go by, then the iPhone 17 Pro Max will come with a 5,000 mAh battery. However, so will the S26 Ultra , with some predicting that Samsung may finally use denser battery technology to achieve the same capacity in less space.
The S25 Ultra continued Samsung's trend of 5,000 mAh batteries. | Video credit — Samsung
According to the reports, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be 8.76 mm thick, and the S26 Ultra will be less than 8 mm but over 7 mm. The current iPhone 16 Pro Max is 8.25 mm thick, which means that Apple is no longer trying to slim down its flagship model each year. If an Apple user wants a slimmer experience, they'll have to go for the iPhone 17 Air, which will only have a battery capacity of 2,800 mAh.Apple is doing what I've been wanting phone companies to do for a long time: increasing battery capacity instead of slimming down an already very slim phone. And if Samsung really is continuing to slim down its phones, then the following few years will introduce a major difference between the iPhone and Galaxy phones.
Chinese phones are hitting the limit of silicon batteries, with some phones even reaching 8,000 mAh capacities: like the Honor Power. While 5,000 mAh on the iPhone 17 Pro Max isn't much, it's still more than its predecessor. I'm glad that at least one of these two top dogs is moving in what I think is the right direction. Questionable image of Tensor G5 prototype surfaces
Pixel 10 Pixel 10 Receive the latest Google news Subscribe By subscribing you agree to our terms and conditions and privacy policy On the other hand, there is some indication that Samsung Foundry felt that it would get the job of building the Tensor G5. As we told you last month, Korean financial newsletter "The Bell" said that Samsung Foundry is investigating why it lost the business of building the Tensor G5 to TSMC . While that doesn't prove that Samsung foundry built a Tensor G5 prototype, it does indicate that Samsung might have been surprised by Google's decision to have TSMC build the AP although most analysts were not. Samsung Foundry's yield problems have resulted in the Samsung unit's market share declining to 7.7% during Q1 2025 from 8.1% during the fourth quarter of last year. Meanwhile, TSMC's share has risen from 67.1% to 67.6% from Q4 2024 to Q1 2025, respectively. We may earn a commission if you make a purchase Check Out The Offer As we've mentioned before, the Pixel 10 will be powered by the Tensor G5 application processor (AP). This will be the first Tensor chip designed from the ground up by Google ; previous Tensor chips used a Samsung Exynos AP as a foundation while Google added some customized parts of the chipset. The change will allow Google to design exclusive Pixel features right into the chipset. The Tensor G5 is also the first Tensor SoC built by the world's largest foundry, TSMC. The four previous Tensor APs were built by Samsung the struggles that Samsung Foundry is having with its yield at 3nm, it is no surprise that TSMC ended up with the job. But a tipster posted an image on "X" showing what he says is a prototype of the Tensor G5 AP. The tipster, @Jukanlosreve, wrote, " I received a photo of aprototype chip, and it's marked as SEC (Samsung). It certainly seems that, at least for the early versions of the, they were considering having the Tensor G5 manufactured at Samsung Foundry."@Jukanlosreve might have thought that the SEC marking on the chip stood for Samsung Electronics Company. However, while Samsung uses that abbreviation in press releases and news articles; it would not be a marking Samsung would typically use on a finished chip to indicate that it was made by Samsung Foundry. Also, there are signs that certain numbers on the chip have been concealed, possibly to perpetuate the myth that Samsung Foundry built a prototype of the Tensor most important project that Samsung Foundry is working on is the 2nm Exynos 2600 AP, expected to power the Galaxy S26 and+ in most markets outside of the U.S., Canada, and China. If Samsung uses the Exynos 2600 AP in those models, in most markets worldwide, themodels using Sammy's homegrown AP will be the first equipped by a chip produced using the 2nm process thing that is clear is that the Tensor G5 AP will not be manufactured by Samsung Foundry and will be produced by TSMC. Theseries is rumored to be unveiled on August 20th and released on August 28th.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 in for review
Hey there, Galaxy Z Flip7! Samsung's latest flip-foldable may fly under the radar that is the Galaxy Z Fold7, but we're willing to bet that this one is going to be more popular. Nothing's changed with the retail package - you get the phone, a SIM tool, and a USB-C cable. The Flip7 comes in two versions - 12/256GB and 12/512GB. You get a choice of Blue Shadow, Jet Black, Coral Red, and the online exclusive Mint. The biggest upgrade with this generation of Galaxy Z Flip is the cover screen. It now stretches from end to end to reach 4.1 inches - a big jump from 3.4 inches. Samsung shrunk the bezels and made the phone ever-so-slightly wider and taller to accommodate the new screen. Still, the Galaxy Z Flip7 measures 13.7mm closed, and 6.5mm when opened, compared to 14.9mm/6.9mm on its predecessor. The inner display also got a notable jump in size - from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. It's noticeable. Back to the cover screen. It's smarter, too. By default, the Z Flip7's cover screen is like a big Galaxy Watch - you get widgets and not fully-featured apps. But you can force the phone to let you use all your apps on the screen - go to Samsung Labs, enable all apps on the cover screen, and then download a Galaxy Store app called MultiStar. Non-optimized apps don't use the entire cover screen, but it's worth it just to have them available! Still, Samsung lags behind Motorola in terms of cover screen functionality - The razr 60 Ultra can allow any app on its outer screen, no hacking needed! Anyway, we're trying our best to give you reviews of all the phones we have at the office but it will take some time! Kindly, be patient! Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could get a massive camera upgrade
Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra is supposedly coming in January, and according to a new rumor from China today, it might bring with it a massive camera upgrade. Namely, the main sensor is said to be Sony's upcoming 1/1.1" type with 200 MP resolution, the Japanese company's first with so many pixels. The Galaxy S25 Ultra uses the Samsung ISOCELL HP2, which has 200 MP resolution too, but is smaller at 1/1.3". The bigger size of the Sony sensor will let in more light, which should result in much-improved shots. The only asterisk here is that there's a chance Samsung will push the use of this Sony sensor to the Galaxy S27 Ultra in 2027. Hopefully the S26 Ultra will see it, but it doesn't seem to be a given according to the source of this rumor. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Source (in Chinese)
