Bangladesh Actor Nusraat Faria, Who Played Sheikh Hasina In Biopic Detained In Dhaka: Report
Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria, known for her portrayal of Sheikh Hasina in the Bangabandhu biopic, 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation', has been arrested at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, local media outlets reported on Sunday.
The Dhaka Tribune reported that Nusraat was arrested for her alleged involvement in an attempted murder case linked to anti-government protests.
A case was filed against 17 actors, including Nusraat, for the alleged attempted murder of a student in the capital's Vatara area during the July uprising last year, according to Dhaka Tribune.
Inspector Sujan Haque of Vatara Police Station said she was arrested this afternoon, as reported by bdnews24.com.
"Our team went to the airport to get her based on information from Immigration Police," he said. "A few days ago, a court approved an attempted murder case against her. She has been shown arrested in that case," as per the outlet.
The case was filed at the police station during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement's protests in 2024, the police said, according to bdnews24.com.
The website of the local news outlet Prothom Alo reported that the actress was arrested at the immigration checkpoint at the airport this morning as she was about to travel to Thailand.
Nusrat made her acting debut with the film Aashiqui (2015), where she played the lead role opposite Ankush Hazra. The film was a commercial success.
She also worked in several other hits such as Hero 420 (2016), Badsha - The Don (2016), Premi O Premi (2017) and Boss 2: Back to Rule (2017).
She essayed the role of Sheikh Hasina in 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation', which was released in 2023. It was based on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and first president of Bangladesh, who is popularly known as Bangabandhu. It was a co-production between Bangladesh and India, the film was directed by Shyam Benegal and stars Arifin Shuvoo in the titular role.
According to bdnews24.com, Faria said at the time that she could not believe she had the opportunity to portray the Awami League leader.
The actress said, "When I learnt of it, I felt like the luckiest person in my country. Because, no one has ever played her role onscreen before. I don't know if anyone will do it in the future."
"I feel that even if I never act again in the future, I have got the opportunity to play this role, which is the ultimate achievement for me," as per the bdnews24.com.

The four accused have been booked under sections 143(3) [trafficking of person], 144(2) [Exploitation of a trafficked person], 336(3) [crime of forgery], and 3(5) [common intention] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 4 and 5 of the Illegal Trafficking (Prevention) Act. The police are investigating whether the group trafficked women and forced them into the flesh trade in the past.

With SC case still pending, Assam man 'pushed' into Bangladesh returns home
GUWAHATI: Khairul Islam has been very busy for the past three days responding to phone calls from friends and acquaintances. This former schoolteacher from central Assam's Morigaon district was pushed into Bangladesh along with 13 other 'illegal immigrants' on May 24. He returned home two days ago after, what he claimed, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) handed him and six others back to India, stating that they are not Bangladeshi nationals. Islam, who is in his fifties, was declared a foreigner by a foreigners' tribunal in 2018. He challenged this in the Gauhati High Court but it upheld the tribunal's judgment. Foreigners' tribunals are quasi-judicial bodies which deal with the cases of suspected foreigners. After he lost his case in the High Court, the police arrested him and sent him to a detention centre. He walked out on bail after two years in 2020 when the Supreme Court issued an order to decongest jails in the wake of Covid pandemic. Islam told this newspaper on Saturday that he had then moved the Supreme Court and his case is still pending. He lamented that he was deported although the apex court is yet to deliver a judgment. He said he had spent two days in Bangladesh and he did not face any problem there. 'The BGB had formally handed seven of us over to the BSF. The BSF did not protest it,' Islam said. 'I have no idea if the remaining seven are in Bangladesh or India,' he added. Islam said following his handover, he was under the care of Assam Police until returning home two days ago. 'The joys of my family members knew no bounds when I arrived home. I am feeling very relaxed now. I celebrated Eid. I had no idea that I would be able to celebrate Eid at home after deportation,' he said. Meanwhile, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has said the process of identifying foreigners will now move at a faster pace.

Four illegal Bangladeshi nationals detained at Agartala railway station
Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 8 (ANI): In a joint operation, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Intelligence Branch apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals, including two children at the Agartala Railway Station on Saturday. The accused were identified as Md Billal (47), Salma Begam (38), Md Naeem (8) and Md Ali (6). According to official sources, the detained individuals entered India illegally from Bangladesh and had reached the railway station with the intent of boarding a train to travel to other states of the country. The operation was conducted based on secret intelligence inputs received earlier in the day. During preliminary interrogation, the detainees revealed that they were planning to travel to Delhi. Authorities have stated that all four will be produced before the Court on June 8 for further legal proceedings. Security at key transit points like the Agartala Railway Station remains on high alert to prevent such illegal crossings and human trafficking attempts. In the national capital, Police on Saturday initiated the process to deport 31 Bangladeshi nationals who were living illegally in the North West district of Delhi. The deportation process began on Saturday after the individuals were brought to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in RK Puram, officials said. Earlier this week, the North West District Police apprehended 18 Bangladeshi nationals who were found residing illegally in the city. The arrests were made during a special operation conducted on Tuesday by the Foreigner Cell unit in the Bharat Nagar police station area. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs indicating that three families who had migrated from Haryana were now hiding in the Wazirpur JJ Colony, frequently changing locations to avoid detection.
