Bangladesh Actor Nusraat Faria, Who Played Sheikh Hasina In Biopic Detained In Dhaka: Report
The Dhaka Tribune reported that Nusraat was arrested for her alleged involvement in an attempted murder case linked to anti-government protests.
A case was filed against 17 actors, including Nusraat, for the alleged attempted murder of a student in the capital's Vatara area during the July uprising last year, according to Dhaka Tribune.
Inspector Sujan Haque of Vatara Police Station said she was arrested this afternoon, as reported by bdnews24.com.
"Our team went to the airport to get her based on information from Immigration Police," he said. "A few days ago, a court approved an attempted murder case against her. She has been shown arrested in that case," as per the outlet.
The case was filed at the police station during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement's protests in 2024, the police said, according to bdnews24.com.
The website of the local news outlet Prothom Alo reported that the actress was arrested at the immigration checkpoint at the airport this morning as she was about to travel to Thailand.
Nusrat made her acting debut with the film Aashiqui (2015), where she played the lead role opposite Ankush Hazra. The film was a commercial success.
She also worked in several other hits such as Hero 420 (2016), Badsha - The Don (2016), Premi O Premi (2017) and Boss 2: Back to Rule (2017).
She essayed the role of Sheikh Hasina in 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation', which was released in 2023. It was based on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and first president of Bangladesh, who is popularly known as Bangabandhu. It was a co-production between Bangladesh and India, the film was directed by Shyam Benegal and stars Arifin Shuvoo in the titular role.
According to bdnews24.com, Faria said at the time that she could not believe she had the opportunity to portray the Awami League leader.
The actress said, "When I learnt of it, I felt like the luckiest person in my country. Because, no one has ever played her role onscreen before. I don't know if anyone will do it in the future."
"I feel that even if I never act again in the future, I have got the opportunity to play this role, which is the ultimate achievement for me," as per the bdnews24.com.

KOLAR: Kolar police have detained 12 persons, including five minors, all suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals. The detainees will be produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for further action. The SP said even the two children, born in India through home deliveries without hospital records, are being verified as part of the investigation. Preliminary investigation reveal that most of the group had been living in India in temporary roadside tents for the past two years, while one man, Badal (38), had been staying for eight years. Those detainees include Badal (38), Mohammed Javeed Islam (22), Mohammed Nazarul (40), Mohammed Faizal (22), Jannathi Athar (19), Morshid Akthar (33), Sameelin (30), and five minors. The men and women have been housed separately under security, and the police are providing them food. During questioning, it emerged that each adult had paid `20,000 to a Bangladeshi resident, who allegedly dropped them in Howrah, West Bengal, from where they began moving from place to place. 'All of them will be produced before the FRRO on Saturday,' the SP added.

The Meghalaya government has urged the Centre to negotiate the possibility of building a fence closer to the international boundary than existing norms allow in the unfenced stretch of the state's border with Bangladesh. This comes after an incident in Rongdanggai village in the South West Khasi Hills close to the Bangladesh border, in which a local was injured after being assaulted and stabbed late on August 8, allegedly by a group of Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally crossed the border. Following a review meeting with the DCs and SPs of all districts of the state Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Tynsong said that security has been ramped up along the border. 'Instructions have been given to districts that they have to be more proactive because quite a number of incidents have happened. Number one is that illegal infiltration takes place everywhere, right from East Jaintia Hills to Dalu side [West Garo Hills] all along the international border between India and Bangladesh. We are alert and we are sure our police force will be able to map and push back infiltrators,' he said. Meghalaya has a 443 km long international border with Bangladesh, in which a stretch of around 40 km remains unfenced. In line with the 1975 Joint India-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities, neither country can construct a defence structure within 140 yards from the zero line or the international boundary on either side. Deputy Chief Minister Tynsong said that the Meghalaya government is pushing the Centre to negotiate for an exception in Meghalaya's case. 'Quite a number of complications arise in this unfenced area. Number one is that international norms say it [fence] should be 150 yards inside the country. It so happens that there are a number of villages in that area, that if the fencing is carried out, these villages will be outside the fence. If it is outside the fencing it more or less means that it falls under the no man's land,' he said. He went on to say: 'In these circumstances, we have taken it up with the Ministry of Home Affairs to try to convince the government of Bangladesh that because of this reality, let us go close to the main pillar of the border. So that we can avoid fencing outside the villages'.

Kolkata: "I have a persistent headache, my body is in extreme pain," says Amir Sheikh, choking up while speaking to TOI over the phone. The 22-year-old from Malda spent days in police custody after he was picked up by cops in Rajasthan on suspicion of being an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant and then pushed into Bangladesh. He returned mysteriously to Bengal on Wednesday. Amir had been working in Rajasthan. "Cops arrived suddenly at the construction site . They said it was a verification drive... the next 48 hours were absolute hell," Amir says. "Three of them (cops) stood on my legs. As their heavy boots made me howl in pain, they thrashed me and kept on insisting that I tell them my native place of birth. I showed them my school leaving certificate and even my birth certificate. But they would not listen," recounts Amir. It came as a surprise to Amir when he was taken to the airport and flown to Bengal. "The police took me to an area I was not familiar with.
