UK Unveils £15 Bln Investment in Nuclear Warhead Program
Israa Farhan
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has
announced
a landmark £15 billion investment in the production of sovereign nuclear warheads as part of a comprehensive strategy to modernize the UK's military and enhance national security.
The plan also includes a major expansion of the country's nuclear deterrent and increased readiness for potential global conflicts.
The announcement came as part of a broader defense review aimed at addressing rising global instability and mounting security threats. Starmer declared that the UK must enter a state of *combat readiness* to effectively deter future aggressors and protect its national interests.
Starmer outlined three strategic priorities for the UK's updated defense posture:
1. Enhanced War Readiness
The Prime Minister stated that boosting the UK's war readiness is the most effective way to deter potential aggressors. Measures include increased pay for military personnel and the development of a fully trained and more robust reserve force.
2. Strengthening NATO's Capabilities
Reaffirming a NATO-first defense policy, Starmer pledged that the UK will provide its most significant contribution to the alliance since its inception.
He emphasized that the UK's commitment to NATO remains unwavering and central to its defense strategy.
3. Accelerating Defense Innovation
Starmer stressed the need for the UK to become the fastest innovator within the NATO alliance. The government aims to adopt a wartime pace for defense technology development, ensuring rapid adaptation to evolving threats.
As part of the defense plan, the government has pledged to:
Build at least six new munitions factories across the UK.
Establish a hybrid Royal Navy that combines drones, warships, submarines, and advanced aircraft.
Deliver up to 12 nuclear-powered attack submarines under the AUKUS security partnership with the United States and Australia.
Improve housing and military equipment for armed forces personnel.
Invest £15 billion in a Sovereign Warhead Program to reinforce the UK's nuclear capabilities.
Under the trilateral AUKUS agreement, the UK will enhance submarine capabilities and share defense technologies with the US and Australia. The partnership plays a pivotal role in countering threats in the Indo-Pacific region and solidifying the UK's position in global security frameworks.

OPEN// FM says Egypt eager to enhance relations with China
CAIRO, June 4 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said Wednesday Egypt wants to work with the Chinese side to elevate relations to broader horizons. This came during his meeting with Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun. Abdelatty highlighted that over a decade has passed since the announcement of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China, which was made by their presidents in December 2014, noting the remarkable development in bilateral relations across various sectors in recent years, foreign ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said. The minister praised China's contribution to infrastructure projects in Egypt and affirmed Egypt's eagerness to attract more Chinese investments and companies. He presented the available investment opportunities in Egypt and the efforts made by the government to support the private sector within an integrated plan for economic development. Minister Abdelatty briefed the Chinese envoy on Egypt's mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, in cooperation with the United States and Qatar, stressing the need for the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis affecting the Palestinian people. He applauded China's balanced stance on the Palestinian issue and reiterated the need for the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost among which is the right to establish an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al-Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital. The meeting also addressed several regional issues, including developments in Lebanon, Syria, and Sudan, as well as the security of navigation in the Red Sea. (MENA) A I E/R E E

FM: Israel's Continued Military Operations Will Lead to More Bloodshed
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said continued Israeli military operations will lead to more bloodshed and further worsen the catastrophic humanitarian crisis the Palestinian people are going through. During a phone call with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Wednesday 4, June 2025, the foreign minister asserted Egypt's keenness on pressing ahead with advancing ties between the two countries and elevating them to broader horizons. Abdelatty congratulated his Australian counterpart on her second term in office following the recent federal parliamentary elections in Australia. The foreign minister also underlined the positive momentum of the visit of the Governor-General of Australia to Egypt in April 2025. This year marks the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries, Abdelatty said. He also said he is looking forward to holding the next round of political consultations between Egypt and Australia, and beefing up investments and trade exchange between the two countries. Meantime, the foreign minister highlighted massive incentives offered by the Egyptian market, along with Egypt's great interest in luring investments in a number of priority sectors, topped by the field of green hydrogen. Abdelatty also reviewed the latest developments in the region, including the war in Gaza, underlining Egypt's mediation efforts in cooperation with the US and Qatar on this score. The only path to achieving sustainable peace is sticking to the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state, based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) as its capital, he concluded.

Chinese Drilling Technology Contributes in Expanding Egypt's Agricultural Lands
Rana Atef On Monday, Global Times , which is one of TV Brics partners, reported that Egypt's Western Desert barren lands are gradually being transformed into fertile fields by the advanced Chinese well-drilling technology. The well drilling project, implemented by the Egyptian branch of a Chinese oil and gas company, became part of a mega program to expand agricultural land by developing deserts. This project is an example of sustainable development for arid regions and demonstrates the potential of international cooperation in food security and environmental restoration. The project is being implemented as part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Egypt has expanded beyond infrastructure projects to now include the agricultural sector, technology, and industry. The company began operations in Egypt in 2016 and has since drilled more than 680 wells nationwide. In the Owainat, 63 deep wells were drilled in less than a year, despite extreme weather and geological conditions. Experts emphasise that such projects are key to Egypt's sustainable development. "Any increase in water resources has a direct impact on agricultural growth," Ahmed Galal, dean of the Higher Institute for Agricultural Cooperation in Cairo said. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan
