Man racially abused and left in hospital after 'unprovoked' attacked
Police were contacted after the 49-year-old was assaulted in Harthill at around 7.20pm on Wednesday, August 13.
The man was walking along Miller Street when a Vauxhall Corsa stopped beside him, a man got out of the car, attacked him, and made racial comments.
He attended hospital for treatment to his injuries.
Police have launched a witness appeal following the incident, which they describe as 'completely unacceptable'.
Officers are searching for a white man, aged between 20 and 30 years old, in connection with the incident.
He was wearing a black coloured football top, dark coloured shorts, and trainers at the time of the attack.
Detective constable Verity Gregg said: 'This has been an unprovoked attack on a man walking along the street. It is completely unacceptable.
'I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around that time who may have information to get in touch with us. In particular, if you have any dash-cam or doorbell footage, please pass it on as it could provide additional information on the incident or suspect.'

Family of schoolgirl left for dead in hit-and-run left distraught as driver still at-large
Jessica Frew, then 12, was walking home from a playpark when she was knocked to the ground by a silver Vauxhall Corsa on Cambusnethan Street on April 19 last year. A callous hit-and-run driver who left a schoolgirl for dead in Wishaw remains at-large more than a year on from the horror collision. Jessica Frew was walking home from a playpark when she was struck by a silver Vauxhall Corsa on Cambusnethan Street in the North Lanarkshire town at 4.30pm on April 19 last year. It's understood the senseless driver overtook a number of stationary vehicles and sped through a red light as the youngster, then 12, crossed the road. The motorist knocked Jessica down - leaving her unconscious in the middle of the road and in a pool of her own blood - before fleeing the scene. Nobody was ever arrested. Now, over a year on, the schoolgirl's dad, Robert, 52, told how he feels that his daughter's case has been "abandoned" by police. He told the Record: "It's been more than a year now and whoever done this to my daughter is still out there. "We've had no correspondence from police and we feel that the case has been abandoned. "Whoever did this fled the scene knowing they either killed a child or left her for dead. "It makes me sick to know they're probably still out there behind a wheel. "There's no way they've been able to keep something like this to themselves for so long, somebody knows something. "I'd beg anybody with information about this to come forward." Jessica, now 13, was left with horrific injuries including a disfigured lip, smashed teeth, a severely bruised collar bone and cuts and bruises across her body. She has since had to have four of her teeth pulled out as her mouth was left smashed. Robert said: "Most of her teeth were left fractured. "She's doing well now, but she still suffers nightmares over what happened to her. "She was in a really bad way. "As a parent, it's your worst nightmare. To know who did this to her is still at loose makes it even worse." Robert previously told the Record that he had been conducting his own investigation into the incident in a bid to trace the driver. Horror CCTV footage showed the silver Corsa moments after it collided with Jessica. In the clip, the wing mirror can be seen snapping off after hitting the schoolgirl. The video was shared with the Record at the time in the family's desperate attempt to trace the culprit. Robert said: "I've tried so hard to find whoever did this. "We were speaking to locals, chapping doors and putting out social media appeals. "We had a few leads but nothing came of them. "It makes me think - what if they killed my daughter? Would this driver still be out there? "They knew she would have been lying there in the middle of the road and they just left her for dead." A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Extensive inquiries including studying CCTV and forensic enquiries have been carried out however no one has been arrested in connection with this. 'Any further information which is received will be fully investigated. Anyone with information can contact police on 101.'
