BJP celebrates 11 yrs of Modi govt, INDIA bloc snubs ‘misgovernance'
Ranchi: on Tuesday held various programmes across Jharkhand to mark 11 years of govt at the Centre. In Ranchi, senior party leader and former Union minister Smriti Irani attended a series of programmes hailing the Modi-led govt's achievements to put India on the global map. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Ruling alliance INDIA bloc alliance parties, however, criticised the Modi govt, saying it was misgovernance during which the country has seen scores of atrocities against sections of society. Irani enumerated how the last 11 years have been decisive under Modi's rule for India to become an emerging economy. She cited the historic events and achievements over the last decade right from the abrogation of Article 370 to Operation Sindoor. "The nation's global footprint across various sectors, including supplying Covid-19 vaccines to 160 countries, is hailed by one and all," she said. Irani also said, "In 11 years, the Modi govt achieved the impossible, even forcing the opposition to praise. Today, the world looks at India with respect. The strength of the Indian flag has increased globally. Through the Jan Dhan accounts, 500 million people were benefited by govt schemes, 810 million people received free foodgrain every month and 150 million homes got tap water, among others," she said. Dubbing the 11 years of Modi govt as misgovernance, JMM spokesperson Tanuj Khatri said, "BJP is unaware of the ground reality as it can't hear the cries of the people, their struggles, and the questions the govt is yet to answer, be it on jobs or farm crisis among others. Talking about Jharkhand, tribals are demanding the Sarna code but the Centre continues to ignore them. The state assembly had unanimously passed a resolution in favour of the code, but Modi govt continues to block it. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now " He added, "The prolonged violence in Manipur, particularly the brutalities faced by women, expose the govt's apathy. The PM's silence in such a grave constitutional crisis reflects not only administrative failure but moral bankruptcy. The list is long." State Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh added, "In 11 years, BJP worked towards demeaning the constitutional norms and institutions. Crimes against women have nearly doubled according to the NCRB data and the PM couldn't dare to speak on foreign debt and India's isolation due to its flawed foreign policy among others. Central govt's policies, not only led to a rise in unemployment, but workers' rights have also been curtailed. "

Meet first woman ADC to President: ‘Never dreamt this would be possible'
Between May 7 and 10 last month, as Colonel Sophiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh took centrestage to brief the nation on Operation Sindoor, another quiet change happened away from the spotlight, at the country's highest office. On May 9, Lieutenant Commander Yashaswi Solankee (27) became the first woman officer to be appointed as an Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the President of India. While the President, typically, has five ADCs — three from the Army, and one each from the Navy and Air Force — none of them have been a woman officer so far. 'The thought started with President Droupadi Murmu herself, as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces,' Major General V Parida, Military Secretary to the President, told The Indian Express. 'She speaks about women's empowerment, gender parity and inclusivity so much. So, this is her thought, which has been implemented,' he said. With the Naval ADC completing his tenure at the time, a panel of three Naval officers — all women — was called for selection. The three officers stayed at the Presidential Estate for 15 days, during which they were assessed, including an interview with the President herself. Besides physical criteria, their basic intelligence and adaptability were also put to test. Solankee, originally from Bharuch in Gujarat, was selected in April, after which she underwent a month-long orientation before receiving her coveted aiguillette from Murmu on May 9. Sources said the criteria for selection of a woman ADC remained the same, including the height and physical fitness requirement — at 173 cms, Solankee, earlier a district-level badminton and volleyball player, made the cut. The only concession was that they allowed women officers without permanent commission, too. The President's ADC serves as the bridge to the First Citizen — liaisoning her appointments and call-ons, being present with her at all presidential ceremonies and events, facilitating communication with various branches of the government and military. Assigned a duty room next to the President's room, the ADC is just a call away at all times. Sometimes, they are on duty for 24 hours, on rotation. Solankee has been appointed for a tenure of two-and-a-half to three years. While the first month was all about getting maximum exposure and building a rapport with the President, she said she now feels more informed. But, as ADCs, they can never feel over-confident. 'We prepare for all the engagements and take up-to-date information about who is coming to meet the President, because we have to brief her before every engagement, and she can ask anything,' she said. 'I had never dreamt of getting selected as the ADC to the President. This was never on my bucket list, because I didn't know this may be possible,' she said. Solankee was earlier posted with the Naval Armament (Defence Production), in Hyderabad. 'I am a technical officer and initially, my knowledge was quite siloed, because that was my portfolio. I did have general knowledge, but that was quite general. But now, I need to be updated at all times. Like, every hour, every minute. You have to be updated every second because, at any time, anyone can ask me any question and I have to be prepared,' she said. 'Each and every word that you say here, everything that you do here, it makes a lot of difference, because whatever we say or inform the President is something she goes by,' said Solankee, who is the first in her family to join the defence forces. She is the only one among her siblings to join the defence forces. Both her elder sister and younger brother opted for business management. Asked what inspired her to join the forces, she said: 'It's the aura that officers carry. When I was in Class VIII, we had a Republic Day parade in school where an IAF pilot was the chief guest. He carried a different energy.' Solankee said she was now looking forward to showing her family around Rashtrapati Bhavan on her day off. Meanwhile, sources said there may soon be another woman ADC — perhaps from the Army this time — to bring about 'proportional representation'. 'A few decades later, this barrier would have become a thing of the past,' said Parida. Congress top brass raps state unit for Bengaluru stampede
DCM Shivakumar and CM Siddaramaiah NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: The much-anticipated meeting on Tuesday between the Congress high command, CM Siddaramaiah and DCM DK Shivakumar to discuss alleged lapses that led to the stampede outside cricket stadium resulted in putting up a united front with the party leadership backing its govt. However, the main takeaway from the meeting was that a fresh caste enumeration would be taken up in the state. The meeting, attended by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretaries Randeep Singh Surjewala and KC Venugopal, saw the high command accepting the action taken by the govt in the aftermath of the tragedy. "The CM and PCC chief briefed the leadership about the incident and the action taken post incident. Certainly, we are concerned about every human life. Anyway, the govt has constituted a judicial inquiry to look into the entire incident. During the inquiry, the party did not want to involve itself in the nitty-gritty of the issue," said Venugopal after the meeting. It is said the govt may use the opportunity to push for a cabinet reshuffle and a possible expansion. Portfolio reshuffle may happen before Aashada Venugopal, however, added that the party has asked the govt to be more people-friendly in this regard. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Click Here Undo "But generally, the party clearly viewed that there needs to be a pro-people attitude on this issue (from the govt)," said the AICC general secretary. "If things go as planned, the CM may consider a cabinet expansion with the inclusion of one or two ministers and reshuffle the portfolios to suggest political accountability," said one govt officer, hinting it may happen before the onset of inauspicious month of Aashada in mid-June. However, DK Shivakumar dismissed any discussions on a possible cabinet reshuffle. According to Congress insiders, the situation is too volatile for an inclusion process, with at least 8 to 10 serious aspirants waiting for their turn, and any decision to add only 1 or 2 persons would create unrest. "We do believe there may be a portfolio reshuffle with controversy-ridden ministers being asked to change their departments," said a legislator. The top among the portfolios that are likely to see a change, if any, would be the home department and excise department, both of whose ministers have been in the news for the wrong reasons.
