
Snow falls over parts of the country as a cold front moves in
Forecaster Odirile Modipa confirmed the snowfall, saying, 'Light snow has been observed over the northern parts of the Eastern Cape and is expected to continue into tomorrow.'
The cold front also triggered scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Free State, Northern Cape, and Western Cape. Severe weather alerts have been issued, including a yellow level 1 warning for damaging waves along the southern coastline.
'Severe thunderstorms are likely in the central interior, including parts of the Northern Cape and Free State,' said Modipa.
She added that these could bring strong winds and hail.
Sutherland, known for its cold weather, recorded an overnight minimum of -2°C. Maximum temperatures in the region remain below 10°C, with Cape Town reaching only 15°C and East London at 16°C.

14-hour water supply interruption to impact these Cape Town areas
The City of Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will conduct planned maintenance resulting in a 14-hour water outage in parts of the municipality. The maintenance work is scheduled to commence on Sunday, 10 August. The City of Cape Town said planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas: Langa, Epping 1, Vanguard Estate, Heideveld, Athlone, Hazendal, Sybrand Park, and the area bounded by the N2, Jakes Gerwel Drive, Turfhall Road, and the M5 – The water supply to these areas will be shut off temporarily from 10:00 until 00:00 on Sunday, 10 August. This will enable the maintenance team to safely do emergency repairs to the severely leaking 535mm diameter pipeline in the vicinity of the Vangate Mall. Consumers in these areas will either experience lower than usual water pressure or no water during this period. Saxonsea and Avondale – Atlantis – Likewise, the water supply to these areas will be shut off temporarily from 8:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 12 August, to enable the maintenance team to safely do emergency repairs to the severely leaking 250mm diameter pipeline supplying these areas. Part of Gordons Bay – The City of Cape Town said water supply to Miller Street, Gordonia Street, Faure Street, Bikini Beach, part of Beach Road, and possibly immediate surrounds will be shut off temporarily from 9:00 until 17:00 on Tuesday,12 August. Part of the CBD – Cape Town – Maintenance teams will be doing a temporary test shut-off of the water main in the Cape Town CBD from 9:00 to 16:00 on Tuesday, 12 August. The affected street is Buiten Street, between Loop Street and Long Street. This test is in preparation for the actual water shut-off scheduled from 9:00 to 18:00 on Thursday, 14 August, to allow for a new connection to be made in Buiten Street. Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas: Tuesday, 12 August, from 10:00 until 16:00: Dunoon and Surrounding Industrial area, including Racing Park and The Stables. Wednesday, 13 August, from 10:00 until 16:00: Lot 3 Bellville area bounded by Robert Sobukwe Drive, Kasselsvlei Road, Industry Road, Kosmos Street and possibly immediate surrounds in Bellville South. Warm start, showers arriving late this weekend in KwaZulu-Natal
KwaZulu-Natal will start the weekend with fine to partly cloudy skies, making for a warm day in many areas. Phemelo Zonke from SAWS said, 'Saturday will be comfortable, with warm conditions in the north and mild weather along the coast.' By Sunday, the approaching cold front will bring showers and rain to the southern coastal areas of KwaZulu-Natal, particularly affecting areas closer to the Eastern Cape border. Cold and mild conditions are expected this weekend in Gauteng
Residents across Gauteng can expect a cold start to the weekend, with Johannesburg dropping to 4°C and Pretoria reaching a minimum of 6°C on Saturday morning. Daytime temperatures will rise to a mild 19°C in Pretoria and similar levels in other parts of the province. Phemelo Zonke, a forecaster said, 'Saturday will be mostly fine to partly cloudy with cold mornings and comfortable afternoons.' By Sunday, the cold front passing through the Western Cape will influence Gauteng's temperatures, particularly in southern and eastern areas. 'We expect cooler conditions over the southern high ground, but most of Gauteng will remain dry,' Zonke explained. The province will enjoy predominantly fine skies, with only isolated cloud cover in some regions. While damaging winds and disruptive rainfall are expected in other provinces, Gauteng will avoid severe weather conditions.
