You Must Never Call These Numbers On Your Smartphone
Do not call any of these numbers. We are now being repeatedly warned that legitimate infrastructure is being hijacked by attackers. This includes spoofed Google support addresses, Gmail passwords and even federal agency phone numbers. Now there's another such attack to beware. Malwarebytes warns that scammers are crafting malicious search engine results that link to legitimate sites — such as Netflix or Microsoft, but then open a webpage that includes a search box with a dangerous phone number inserted. The team says this could be called 'a search parameter injection attack, because the scammer has crafted a malicious URL that embeds their own fake phone number into the genuine site's legitimate search functionality.' If you call the number, the handler will pretend to represent the brand you called from, 'with the aim of getting their victim to hand over personal data or card details, or even allow remote access to their computer.' If that brand is a financial firm such as PayPal or Bank Of America, scammers will try to empty accounts. Malicious phone numbers on real website Malwarebytes says users should watch for these red flags: This follows another warning this week from Netcraft, that threat actors are 'exploiting [search engine] While Netcraft says SEO poisoning usually 'promotes malicious or fraudulent websites by exploiting the ranking systems of platforms like Google,' in these injection attacks the websites are real, making it much harder for users to immediately detect the threat. The phone numbers can even appear in the search engine results themselves. What's interesting is there has been so much focus from Google, the FBI and others on not responding to proactive technical or account support calls, that this puts the onus back on users, following official advice to find numbers for themselves before contacting any support desk. But adhere to those red flags and you'll be fine.

The 29-year-old and 41-year-old suspects were arrested in connection with the murders on Wednesday. North West police commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, said police also recovered a vehicle and firearm during the arrests. 'The arrest of the two suspects is a result of excellent Crime Intelligence work in identifying, locating and tracking the vehicle that was used to flee from the crime scene. After questioning, one of them conceded that he was driving the vehicle and he said his friend had shot the couple, Asaneng said. The suspects are expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday. 'These swift arrests should send a strong message to those who commit crime that the police in the province will relentlessly track them down and that they will have no place to hide,' said Asaneng. News24 previously reported that police in Rustenburg had launched a search operation after the couple was brutally killed in a parking lot at a shopping centre on Saturday. Preliminary reports indicated the couple was killed following a heated altercation with the occupants of a white Kia Rio that had no number plates. Police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh, said paramedics declared both victims dead at the scene. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined.

Someone robbed $1.4 million worth of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and disappeared in thin air
Oliver Cragg / Android Authority TL;DR In a high-stakes heist, thieves stole 2,810 units of the newly released Nintendo Switch 2 console from a semi-truck. The driver reported the robbery to authorities in Colorado after he discovered the missing cargo. The stolen consoles are worth a whopping $1.4 million. If you pre-ordered a Nintendo Switch 2 from GameStop, there's a chance your console was part of a $1.4 million shipment stolen from a semi-truck in Colorado. In what can be described as a real-life 'heist mode,' 2,810 newly released Nintendo Switch 2 consoles vanished from a truck stop in Colorado, leaving law enforcement scrambling for answers and appealing to the public for any information about the incident. According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, the massive Nintendo Switch 2 theft was discovered on the morning of June 8 at a Love's Truck Stop in Bennett, Colorado. The truck driver was preparing for the next leg of his trip when he noticed the trailer had been broken into. Inside was a goldmine of 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 units, each valued at $499, freshly shipped from Nintendo of America's headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The final destination of the consoles was a GameStop in Grapevine, Texas, but unfortunately, they never made it. Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office The driver told deputies he did not know what was in the trailer, only that it was games or toys, the sheriff's office noted in a Facebook post. It's still unclear where exactly the heist occurred, how the robbers managed to take off such a big load from the truck, and where they vanished. 'If caught, the suspects could face charges of felony theft valued at $1 million or more, as well as Criminal Mischief,' the sheriff's office said. While it may seem like the thieves hit the jackpot at a time when demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 is at an all-time high, the illegal haul might not ultimately be worth much to the robbers. Alternatively, they could make a lot of money selling these consoles, with customers becoming the ultimate victims of the theft. Each Nintendo Switch 2 unit has a unique serial number, and Nintendo can remotely disable stolen consoles, rendering them useless for resale or online play. That means anyone buying a Switch 2 from unofficial channels could unknowingly get one of these units and end up with a bricked device. So, if you see a great deal on a Switch 2 from a source you don't know or trust, you might want to think twice before buying it. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ .
