Indonesian can leave Hong Kong pending decision to drop fallen tumbler case: court
Merchant Satnauli Bangun, 44, was not required to enter a plea on a count of allowing an object to fall from a height when he first appeared at Eastern Court on Friday.
Court prosecutor Jennifer Cheung Toi-ling said the Department of Justice needed time to decide whether to press on with prosecution, having reviewed CCTV footage of the incident that occurred on Wednesday.
Magistrate Kestrel Lam Tsz-hong scheduled the next hearing for August 1 and noted that the defendant had to be present in court even if the prosecution decided to drop the charge.
Police arrested Bangun after a mainland Chinese woman claimed she had been hit in the head by an unknown object at The Peak Tower on Wednesday.
The force said the accused, who was sightseeing on the floor above, had put his backpack on a fence, but his tumbler fell out from a side pocket.

Urine-spiked drinks suspect wears ‘Enjoy Coca-Cola' T-shirt to Hong Kong court
A 63-year-old Hong Kong man who allegedly placed several bottles of soft drinks contaminated with his urine among other goods in a supermarket has been remanded in custody after attending a court hearing in an 'Enjoy Coca-Cola' T-shirt. Police on Tuesday escorted defendant Franklin Lo Kim-ngai to Kowloon City Court to face a charge of administering a noxious substance with intent to injure. He is alleged to have committed the offence at a Sham Shui Po branch of the Wellcome supermarket chain on August 6. Lo, who sported a grey T-shirt emblazoned with words 'Enjoy Coca-Cola', was not required to speak apart from confirming he understood the allegation. A charge sheet said the accused doctored an unspecified amount of Coca-Cola Plus and 7-Up drinks and put them inside a Wellcome outlet at the Nam Cheong Place shopping centre 'with intent to injure, aggrieve or annoy' people. Magistrate Patrick Tsang Hing-tung adjourned the case until October 21 pending a police investigation, before dismissing Lo's application for bail.

Kim Keon-hee's last stand? South Korea's former first lady battles jail time
South Korea 's scandal-plagued former first lady Kim Keon-hee walked into court on Tuesday, head bowed and looking visibly tense, for a hearing that could make her the first ex-presidential spouse in the country's history to be jailed on criminal charges. Wearing a dark jacket and skirt with a white blouse, her hair pulled back, Kim brushed past pool reporters without a word as she climbed the stairs to the courtroom. A ruling on whether to remand her for questioning or allow her to remain free during the investigation is expected as early as Tuesday night. If the court approves her arrest, it will mean an unprecedented fall from grace for a power broker who once wielded behind-the-scenes influence. Prosecutors and Kim's lawyers are expected to clash fiercely over the detention request. Hong Kong police arrest 3 women for alleged HK$1 million pet company theft
Hong Kong police have arrested three women for allegedly stealing HK$1 million (US$127,387) from a pet supplies company. The force said on Tuesday that the three suspects, aged 32 to 57, were apprehended the previous day in Wong Tai Sin, Tseung Kwan O and Cheung Sha Wan following a report filed in mid-July. An investigation revealed that the company's owner discovered the missing money while reviewing accounts from 2020 to 2021. The three local women are suspected of transferring funds from the company's online store payment account to their accounts, as well as altering documents to evade internal audits. The trio have been released on bail and are required to report back to police in mid-September. The case is being handled by the crime investigation unit of the force's Wong Tai Sin district.
