Activists demand improvement of health facilities in Karnataka's Hassan, submit memorandum to Deputy Commissioner
A delegation of activists, which included representatives of pro-Dalit, women, and farmers' organisations, demanded the upgradation of health services in the district in tune with the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS). They submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard.
The people of Hassan require good health services, as the number of sudden deaths due to heart-related diseases has increased in recent days, the activists said. Irrespective of age and gender, many died due to various health issues; however, many of them could have survived, had they been provided with timely health services, they added.
'The super speciality hospital being constructed on the campus of HIMS requires ₹60 crore for the procurement of necessary equipment and recruitment of staff. The government should release the amount required, and the number of primary health centres and community health centres should be increased as per the IPHS,' they said.
The forum of progressive organisations has launched a public campaign for people's health called 'Janarogyakkagi Janandolana'. As part of the campaign, they would stage a dharna in front of the super speciality hospital constructed in the city on August 15.
Writer and activist Rupa Hassan; activists Jayalakshmi Rajanna Gowda, Mamatha Shivu, and Bhanamathi; writer Suvarna Shivaprasad; Swamy Chinnenahalli, and others were present as part of the delegation.

KIMS pioneers non-surgical prostate cancer treatment
Hyderabad: KIMS Hospitals has made medical history by becoming the first healthcare provider from the Philippines in the east to Turkey in the west to offer Tulsa-Pro, a revolutionary non-surgical treatment for localised prostate cancer and prostate enlargement. The cutting-edge procedure — performed as a day-care service without cuts, stitches, or prolonged hospital stays — has already been successfully administered to 13 patients, including three foreign nationals from Bahrain, Dubai, and Mauritius. This marks the first installation of Tulsa-Pro technology not only in India but across Southeast Asia. Tulsa-Pro (Transurethral Ultrasound Ablation of the Prostate) is an MRI-guided, ultrasound-based system that removes prostate tissue from within via the urethra, allowing same-day discharge. It provides a less invasive alternative to conventional surgery or radiation, with the added benefit of preserving sexual function. 'Incorporating Tulsa-Pro allows us to deliver the full spectrum of prostate care — from traditional surgery and radiation therapy to robotic and now incision-less treatment — all under one roof,' said Dr Bollineni Bhaskar Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of KIMS Hospitals, during the launch event. The treatment is especially beneficial for high-risk patients with prior health conditions such as stroke, heart surgery, or rare blood groups, as it avoids the need for blood transfusions and reduces drug interaction risks, explained Dr Sambit Sahu, Medical Director. Consultant Urologist and Uro-Oncologist Dr Likhiteshwar Pallagani highlighted the precision and patient-friendly nature of the robotic, MRI-guided procedure, while Dr YM Prashanth emphasized its suitability for elderly patients with diabetes or hypertension. With the launch of Tulsa-Pro, KIMS Hospitals has set a new benchmark in prostate care in Asia, reinforcing India's position as a global destination for advanced medical treatment.

KIMS launches non-invasive treatment for prostate
Prostate cancer and prostate enlargement often require invasive surgical interventions or are managed through medication and lifestyle modifications. In case of prostate cancer, treatments vary depending on the stage and aggressiveness of the disease, ranging from active surveillance, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. In order to offer a non-invasive alternative, KIMS has introduced an MRI-guided ultrasound-based procedure known as Tulsa-Pro. The treatment, which requires no cuts, stitches or extended hospitalisation, is performed as a day care procedure. So far, 13 patients, including three foreign nationals from Bahrain, Dubai and Mauritius, have undergone the treatment successfully, said Chairman and Managing Director of KIMS Bollineni Bhaskar Rao. The price for this non-invasive procedure is similar to the cost of the present radical robotic prostatectomy. According to KIMS website, cost of the surgery to remove prostate in Hyderabad by radical prostatectomy is approximately around ₹5 lakh. The surgery cost increases to around ₹2 lakh or more if robotic prostatectomy has been chosen.
