Bitcoin call options—bets on where the bitcoin price or other assets will be in the future—expiring at the end of June at the strike price of $300,000 are the second most popular call option on the Deribit exchange behind $110,000, according to data compiled by crypto analytics company Amberdata and seen by Bloomberg .
'If we look at dealer positioning on Deribit for bitcoin, we see dealers being short a lot of gamma $110,000 as traders are buying options for new all-time highs,' Greg Magadini, Amberdata's director of derivatives, told the financial newswire, referring to a gamma squeeze in which the market can suddenly swing.
'This is showing us that the market positioning is heating up in anticipation of new all-time highs and once in uncharted price territory, there's no telling how high bitcoin can go.'

Court blocks Trump tariffs

AFP | Washington A US federal court blocked most of President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs, boosting markets yesterday with a ruling that could derail his trade strategy. The opinion marks a significant setback to Trump as he bids to redraw the US trading relationship with the world by forcing governments to the negotiating table through tough new tariffs. Trump's global trade war has roiled financial markets with a stop-start rollout of import levies aimed at punishing economies that sell more to the United States than they buy. Trump argued that the resulting trade deficits and the threat posed by the influx of drugs constituted a 'national emergency' that justified widespread tariffs. But the three-judge Court of International Trade ruled Wednesday that Trump had overstepped his authority, and barred most of the duties announced since he took office in January. Attorneys for the Trump administration promptly filed an appeal against the ruling, which gave the White House 10 days to complete the bureaucratic process of halting the tariffs. 'It is not for unelected judges to decide how to properly address a national emergency,' White House spokesman Kush Desai said in a statement. 'President Trump pledged to put America first, and the administration is committed to using every lever of executive power to address this crisis and restore American greatness,' Desai said. The ruling comes as Trump was using the tariffs as leverage in trade negotiations with friends and foes, including the European Union and China. Beijing -- which was hit by 145 percent tariffs before they were sharply reduced to give space for negotiations -- reacted to the court ruling by saying the United States should scrap the levies.

Meta AI bot used a billion times monthly: Mark Zuckerberg

Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg touted the tech firm's generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) assistant on Wednesday, telling shareholders it is used by a billion people each month across its platforms. Zuckerberg noted the milestone anew at Meta's annual gathering of shareholders and as the social media behemoth vies with Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and others to be a leader in Gen AI. It was not clear how much Meta AI use involved people seeking out the chatbot versus passive users of Meta AI, as it is built into features in its family of apps. Since Google debuted AI Overviews in search results a year ago, it has grown to more than 1.5 billion users, according to Google chief executive Sundar Pichai. 'That means Google Search is bringing Gen AI to more people than any other product in the world,' Pichai said. Google's AI Overviews are automatically provided summaries of search results that appear instead of the previous practice of simply showing pages of blue links to revelant websites. Pichai said last week that Google's dedicated Gemini AI app has more than 400 million monthly users. Tech rivals are rapidly releasing new AI products despite ongoing challenges with preventing misinformation and establishing clear business models, and little sense of how the tech will affect society. Meta unveiled its first standalone AI assistant app on April 29, giving users a direct path to its Gen AI models. 'A billion people are using Meta AI across our apps now, so we made a new standalone Meta AI app for you to check out,' Meta CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg said in a video posted on Instagram at the time. Zuckerberg said the app 'is designed to be your personal AI' and would be primarily accessed through voice conversations with the interactions personalized to the individual user.

Pakistan To Launch Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, Says Crypto Minister

Pakistan plans to launch a national strategic Bitcoin reserve, a state minister said Wednesday at Bitcoin 2025. Bilal Bin Saqib, the special assistant to the prime minister on blockchain and cryptocurrency, made the announcement. President Trump signed an executive order in March authorizing a U.S. strategic Bitcoin reserve. A crypto advisor to the Pakistani government announced Wednesday that the country will launch a strategic Bitcoin reserve. Speaking at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, Bilal Bin Saqib, the newly appointed special assistant to the prime minister on blockchain and cryptocurrency, said that Pakistan's government is 'setting up its own Bitcoin strategic reserve.' 'We are getting inspired by [the U.S. government],' the crypto-centric minister of state added. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order paving the way for a U.S. strategic Bitcoin reserve. He added: 'We will be holding these Bitcoins and we will never, ever sell them.' Decrypt reached out to the Pakistani government for further details, but did not immediately receive a response. Pakistan appears to be serious about Bitcoin: Just this week, the country announced that it was allocating 2,000 MW of surplus electricity to Bitcoin mining and AI data centers. The initiative is aimed at generating revenue, creating jobs, and attracting foreign investment, the government said. Bin Saqib is also an advisor to the President Trump-backed crypto project, World Liberty Financial. Under President Trump, the United States is working to help the digital asset industry by pursuing legislation and ending regulatory lawsuits against top crypto firms. The Republican campaigned on a ticket to boost the space, and received backing from crypto and tech bigwigs. President Trump promised to set up a strategic Bitcoin reserve, and in March signed an executive order to push ahead with the plan. According to Arkham Intelligence, the U.S. government already has over 198,000 BTC worth $21.2 billion in reserves—mostly from criminal seizures. El Salvador made Bitcoin legal tender after the country's president, Nayib Bukele, announced the initiative at Bitcoin 2021 in Miami. The Central American government has since bought Bitcoin for its own reserves, and now holds 6,191 BTC worth over $664 million—though the IMF is trying to get the country to stop buying BTC as part of a loan deal. Nevertheless, other countries now appear to be following El Salvador's lead.
