Ex-Warriors Champion Gets Honest About Exit From Franchise
Kevon Looney decided to leave the Bay Area for the first time in his career this offseason. The 29-year-old opted to pass on returning to the Golden State Warriors in favor of a new opportunity with the New Orleans Pelicans. The former champion is now dropping hints as to why.

In all honesty, his recent statement is less of a hint and more of a straightforward statement. Looney left little room for doubt regarding what caused him to pursue a frontcourt role with the Pelicans instead.

Looney described feeling hurt by the Warriors. A lack of trust became apparent to the veteran big man.
"We're going up against Steven Adams—those are the matchups I thrive in," Looney said. "But I wasn't given the chance to do my job… Even in the playoffs, it felt like they didn't trust me, and I really thought I had earned that trust."
To Looney's point, his playing time during the Warriors' 2025 postseason run was minimal. Despite Golden State's lack of prominent frontcourt options, in particular at center, the two-time champion was not featured much.

Looney averaged 10.0 minutes per game in the 2025 NBA Playoffs. The ex-Warriors center posted 2.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in his 12 appearances for Golden State.
New Orleans will offer Looney a chance to compete against Yves Missi and Derik Queen for playing time at the five. Depending on how comfortable the Pelicans are feeling with their younger options, the former Warrior may get his time to shine and build trust.

Luis Gil lined up to make season debut Sunday for Yankees after latest Triple-A rehab outing
NEW YORK — Luis Gil is expected to make his season debut for the New York Yankees on Sunday at Miami after missing four months with a lat strain. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year struck out seven over 4 1/3 innings Tuesday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Gil threw 50 of 75 pitches for strikes, allowing one run and three hits in his fourth minor league rehabilitation start. Injured in spring training, the right-hander is lined up to return this weekend against the Marlins after pitching 14 1/3 innings in the minors. 'I think that's the plan right now,' manager Aaron Boone said before the Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-5 on Tuesday night. Gil began facing hitters on June 21, when he threw 20 pitches of live batting practice at Yankee Stadium, and made his first rehab start July 13 for Double-A Somerset. 'I think for the most part, get through it hopefully successfully, and strike-throwing and carrying his stuff throughout the outing,' Boone said. 'You want to see those things, but we're also mindful of it that in a lot of ways it's spring training for him and building up. 'So there's definitely that next level of competitive juices and adrenaline that'll be flowing once he gets back up here.' Gil stopped a bullpen session on Feb. 28 because of tightness in his pitching shoulder. He went to New York for a second MRI that revealed a high-grade lat strain on March 3. He was shut down from throwing for at least six weeks after receiving the original diagnosis, and at the time the Yankees said he would not return until June at the earliest. On April 16 , the Yankees said Gil's throwing program would be delayed for about 10 days. The 27-year-old Gil went 15-7 with a 3.50 ERA in 29 starts for the AL East champions last year, striking out 171 and walking a major league-high 77 in 151 2/3 innings. Acquired from the Minnesota Twins in a 2018 trade, Gil made a successful return from Tommy John surgery and threw eight more innings in a pair of postseason starts as the Yankees reached the World Series for the first time since 2009. ___ AP MLB:

Former Steelers WR George Pickens lighting up Cowboys training camp
Of all the big moves the Pittsburgh Steelers made this offseason, the trade that sent wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys took us by surprise the most. After trading for wide receiver DK Metcalf and passing on a wide receiver in the 2025 NFL draft, we were excited to see the tandem of Metcalf and Pickens out there with Aaron Rodgers throwing them the football. Things didn't work out and now Pickens is in Dallas and forms one of the best tandems in the NFC with CeeDee Lamb. Meanwhile, the Steelers are sorting between Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods for their other starter. At the same time, Pickens is lighting up Cowboys camp and seems to make a huge play every practice. With how aggressive the Steelers have been this offseason to add talent, every move they make is going to be under the microscope. If Pickens has a breakout campaign and the Steelers' passing offense struggles, there will be plenty of second-guessing of the trade. The Steelers drafted Pickens in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft out of Georgia. Pickens' talent was never in question but his maturity and work ethic were. The Steelers gave Pickens three seasons but he never seemed fully committed to playing in this offense.
