Police launch homicide investigation after man found dead in Gold Coast hotel room
Police have launched a homicide investigation after the discovery of a man's body in a Gold Coast hotel room.
The 35-year-old Nerang man was found dead inside a room at the Hinterland Hotel at about 11am on Saturday.
Yesterday an autopsy found he died from what police described as a significant head injury.
The autopsy also found he had significant internal injuries.
Homicide detectives are now working alongside the criminal investigations branch on the case.
Investigators are appealing for information from anyone who stayed at or visited the Hinterland Hotel at Nerang on Friday night or Saturday morning.

The Holden driver can then be seen jumping back into his car and swerving around the 4X4, before speeding off with the VW in hot pursuit. The showdown has clocked up over two million views on Facebook, sparking widespread debate about road rage and driver behaviour. 'They're acting like toddlers throwing tantrums,' remarked one viewer. 'Wow, people are getting crazy on the roads now,' said another. A spokesperson for Queensland Police Service told Courier Mail that police were aware of the video, but no formal complaint had been made.

Body found in reserve in Sydney's west potentially a middle-aged woman, police say
A crime scene has been set up at a reserve in Western Sydney and an investigation is underway after a body was found on Sunday. Police officers went to Irwin Street in Werrington at about 1:15pm after a passer-by spotted the body in a remote part of the reserve, with sporting fields on one side and houses on the other, and called triple-0. Detective Superintendent Trent King said he had been informed the body was "potentially a middle-aged woman", and had been there "for a period of time." "Now, at this stage, I don't believe it was wrapped," he said. "There were some items around the body, but not wrapped — so, other clothing items and other rubbish." However, he was quick to point out the investigation was in its infancy and it was too early to tell if there were any injuries or signs of rape. Forensic officers are canvassing the scene as part of Strike Force Dowerin, which includes Nepean detectives and the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad. The Missing Persons Unit is also assisting the investigation. In response to questions about the involvement of homicide detectives, Superintendent King said it was necessary until the cause of death was established. "We're hoping, certainly in the next couple of days, through both the post-mortem examination as well as the examination today, that we will have further information," he said. Vision from the scene shows a police tent over a blue tarpaulin covering the ground not far from where the body was found. Superintendent King said it was "certainly part of the crime scene." "We're not discounting anything at this stage in relation to that aspect of it. "I don't have any information of what's underneath."
