Second International film festival commences today

The 2nd International Film Festival hosted by the Puducherry Film Forum showcasing a cross-section of world cinema gets under way at Alliance Francaise on Friday, August 8, 2025. The three-day free-entry fete, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association, will screen films from the US, France, Spain, UK, Iran and Argentina apart from India, organisers told a press conference on Thursday. A. Sreekar Prasad, multiple national award-winning film editor, will inaugurate the festival at 5.30 p.m. in the presence of Tourism Minister K. Lakshminarayanan, Nallam Sathish, president of Alliance Française, Laurent Jalicous, Director of Alliance Française, C. Patcheammalle, Secretary of the Puducherry Film Forum and prominent personalities from the realm of film and literature. In addition to the shows, the event will also feature a masterclass by filmmaker Sivakumar Mohanan, who will be in conversation with Sreekar Prasad at noon on August 9, film reviews and discussions. The Forum had launched the first film festival in 2024, building on its 12-year legacy of organising international documentary and short film festivals annually since 2011. The inaugural will be followed by the screening of the Belgian-French film Tori and Lokita by Dardennes Brothers that had premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

A medley of bold strokes and bright colours at art expo

A medley of bold brush strokes, bright colours and angular shapes, often reminiscent of the expressionist style, define the art of Alain Gambier, who goes by the moniker A* Gaambal. An expo — 'Glut 0.2 Fraternité, où es-tu?' (Brotherhood, Where are You?) — showcases a selection of the French artist's works at the Alliance Francaise. Though he sometimes resorts to figurative art, his preferred style is abstract. The artist believes that an abstract work of art has the capacity to trigger unbounded interpretations in the viewers. And, in life as in art, he has this uncanny ability to shift from artivist to a free spirit always looking to spread fun and laughter. Not surprising for someone who takes his life code from the Charlie Chaplin maxim 'A day without laughter is a day wasted,' finding and spreading joy and happiness is central to his artistic pursuits. A spinoff of this has been a fun video series titled 'Glut' that evolved 'as a family play with art and words'. A Glut logo was designed by his artist-nephew Koumar David as a sort of signature to mark out his body of artworks. It wasn't long before a Glut YouTube channel was launched to present some of his work in a comical-absurdist mode, where 'the artwok itself is a character'. A. Gaamblar is quite in his elements when he forays into the realm of the absurd as he does in some of these art-based video segments. In one such segment, the artist pretend-pushes on a painting of vertical piano keys to the background score of 'O Fortuna', a medieval poem from the 13th century Carmina Burana collection that was set to music by German composer Carl Orff. For him, in this ongoing mad world, absurd is what can re-open the field of possibilities. The absurd and art combined make the frontiers between living beings vanish and lead to the surge of shared happiness, he feels. The artist is also popular for establishing the Glutotel Homestay, a boutique eco-living space near Auroville, featuring unique 'Glut' rooms with teak woodwork and lit up by art works. One of his works has also been used as illustration for a new French work of fiction, 'Les Etats D'âme Du Caméléon' of his spouse, Yamouna David, past practicising lawyer at the Paris Bar and daughter of former Madras High Court Judge and author David Annoussamy. In order to raise the fun quotient and make the expo more participatory, the artist, along with the hosts, have organised a fun contest where a reward awaits visitors who come up with the fancy titles for the contemporary art works. The best title tip will get a prize at the valedictory of the expo on August 6.

Dolly Chawla Call Her Character In Tumm Se Tumm Tak ‘Authoritative And Bossy'

Dolly Chawla opened up about how the role is unlike anything she's played before and quite the opposite of her real-life persona. Television actress Dolly Chawla is currently winning hearts in Zee TV's new-age gap romance drama Tumm Se Tumm Tak. Attracting attention for her portrayal of Meera, she is considered one of the most compelling aspects of the show. In a recent interview with a news agency, Dolly revealed that the role is unlike anything she has taken on before and is quite the opposite of her real-life personality. Speaking to IANS, Dolly said playing such a contrasting character was both challenging and exciting, as it allowed her to explore new dimensions as an actor. Dolly Chawla's Character Meera Is Possessive And Opposite Of Her Real-Life Persona Describing her character, Dolly shared, 'I am playing Meera, who handles everything related to Arya; his office, food, medicines and more. She doesn't like it when someone else gets close to Arya or when he gives them importance. Now that Anu has joined the office, Meera is getting jealous. She doesn't listen to anyone except her boss." She admitted the role is far from who she is in real life, but that's what made it exciting. 'People have loved me in my previous work, and I hope they give the same love to Meera, even if they hate her. I feel that every character should be challenging, only then do you truly enjoy playing it. This character is very different from my real-life personality, and that's what makes it exciting. It takes time to observe and adapt, but I am enjoying it," she stated. Why Dolly Chawla Said Yes To Tumm Se Tumm Tak Dolly also said that the production house, Studio LSD, played a big role in her decision. She mentioned, 'When I got a call from the production house, I was very excited. This production house feels like family to me, and I love them. When they called and briefed me about the character of Meera, I was thrilled. They also mentioned that this show already exists in seven languages, so there's definitely pressure to deliver a strong performance." Dolly, who has played negative roles before, called Meera 'authoritative and bossy." She said, 'I have done negative roles before, but this one is especially challenging. Meera is authoritative and bossy, which makes her quite different." Tumm Se Tumm Tak's Concept Set against the backdrop of an age-gap romance between Arya (played by Sharad Kelkar) and Anu (Niharika Chouksey), Tumm Se Tumm Tak explores the emotional journey of two people navigating love despite societal expectations. Speaking about the storyline, the actress shared, 'If you look at relationships in real life, age gaps do exist. Love is a gradual process. Even if there is an age gap, you still take your time to assess whether the person is right for you or not. That's exactly how it is for Anu and Arya. The story has layers and things unfold step by step. Age is just a number." Produced by Prateek Sharma and Parth Shah under the banners of Studio LSD, Tumm Se Tumm Tak stars Dolly Chawla alongside Sharad Kelkar and Niharika Chouksey. The daily soap airs every day on Zee TV.
