Jaipur: Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLA Jaikrishn Patel , who represents the Bagidora assembly constituency in Banswara, was sent to jail Wednesday after an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court ordered his judicial custody in the 'cash-for-no-query' scandal.The court also sent Patel's cousin, Vijay Patel, to judicial custody. After his arrest Sunday, the legislator spent his first night in jail.In the same case, the ACB was granted a two-day remand for two other accused—Jaswant alias Laxman Meena and Jagaram—who allegedly collected the bribe money from Patel's personal assistant, Rohit Meena, and helped conceal it. The ACB sought a four-day remand for all four men, but the court allowed only two days for Jaswant and Jagaram.All four were produced in court Wednesday where ACB officials told the court that Jaikrishn's mobile phone contains key evidence and that further questioning is necessary based on the data retrieved from the device. The ACB said Vijay Patel has important information about the bribery deal, and both he and Jaikrishn need to be questioned together to clarify their roles in the matter.Meanwhile, Jaswant and Jagaram are being questioned about how the money was routed to them and the exact timeline of events, particularly their connection with Rohit Meena. An inspection of the bag said to contain the Rs 20 lakh bribe money revealed that Rs 83,000 was missing. The ACB is now trying to determine when and where the cash disappeared.Jagaram and Jaswant, who are now in custody, have claimed the bag was untouched when they received it. However, the bureau believes the money could have been removed at the MLA's residence, by Rohit Meena while transporting it, or by either Jaswant or Jagaram, in whose house the cash was eventually hidden.The ACB continues to search for Rohit Meena, who is on the run with the bribe money. Raids have been carried out at his home and other suspected locations, but he remains untraceable.

Gurgaon: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) on Thursday awarded Rs 30.7 lakh compensation to a 34-year-old accountant, who was left with disabilities after a road accident involving a truck four years ago. "Accident is a great trauma in itself… Melancholy and suffering become companions of the victim," MACT-Gurgaon's presiding officer Sunil Kumar Dewan observed in the July 31 ruling. Naveen Soni, a resident of Kankrola in Gurgaon, was riding his motorcycle home from work on July 8, 2021, when a Punjab-registered truck struck his vehicle near Jhajjar Bypass Road around 9:40pm. The truck driver fled the site immediately after the collision. Soni, grievously injured and bedridden for several months after, was initially treated at a Farrukhnagar hospital and was later transferred to the privately run Paras Hospital in the city. He suffered from permanent walking abnormalities and lost his job. "Along with financial loss, he also suffered physical and mental trauma," Dharma Sharma, Soni's counsel, argued before the tribunal. The defence – comprising truck driver Vijay Kumar, Suraj Transport Service and ICICI Lombard Insurance Company – contested the compensation claim on multiple grounds. Rajesh Bhardwaj, representing the truck driver and the transport company, argued that his clients were being falsely implicated and questioned the high compensation amount. Deepak Gupta, counsel for the insurance company, argued that details of the truck and its registration number were not mentioned in the original FIR. He also raised objections on Soni's age and salary drawn by him before the accident. But Soni's counsel presented an eyewitness – Bijender, who runs a scrap shop near the accident site. Bijender said in his testimony that he saw the accident and had noted down the truck's registration number. A day later, the shop owner told the tribunal, he provided details about the truck and the accident to cops who were investigating the case. Noting these details, the tribunal's presiding officer on Thursday ruled in favour of Soni and directed the truck driver, the transport company and the insurance firm to jointly pay Rs 30.7 lakh as compensation along with 7.5% annual interest.

Since it is revenue (puramboke) land, the department did not receive land tax, the RTI reply stated. Meanwhile, governor Rajendra Arlekar is understood to have sought a report from Kerala University vice-chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal on the alleged encroachment of university land by CPM. The Save University Campaign Committee submitted a memorandum to the governor, seeking urgent steps to reclaim the land, which the CPM allegedly encroached upon for setting up AKG Centre. According to land revenue records, AKG Centre is functioning in 55 cents of revenue land, adjacent to the Kerala University Senate House campus. The Kerala University vice-chancellor is expected to present the land encroachment matter at the next syndicate meeting and submit a report to the governor. It was former chief minister A K Antony who sanctioned 15 cents of land to the CPM for setting up a research centre. Due to the non-availability of land allotment documents, revenue officials refused to collect land tax from AKG Centre. However, AKG Centre could obtain a Thiruvananthapuram corporation number and it pays Rs 10.5 lakh as property tax. SUCC, in its memorandum to the governor, claimed that AKG Centre was able to obtain a corporation permit using political influence. SUCC alleged that the entire 55 cents of land under the custody of AKG Centre belonged to Kerala University. Although Antony and the university syndicate decided to grant 15 cents each to AKG Centre, the CPM failed to claim the ownership of the land legally. Further, it encroached on more university land. "If the governor fails to take steps to reclaim the land from AKG Centre, SUCC will initiate legal proceedings," said the committee chairman R S Sasikumar. Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor met governor on Thursday and appraised him of the developments in the university.

Telangana Dy CM dedicates 1st unit of Yadadri Thermal Power Plant
Nalgonda, Aug 1 (UNI) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said the 4,000 MW Yadadri Thermal Power Plant will be fully dedicated to the nation by January next year. Speaking after dedicating the first 800 MW unit to the nation on Friday and laying the foundation stone for an integrated township at the project site, to be developed at a cost of Rs 970 crore, Bhatti Vikramarka termed the event 'historic' for meeting the state's power needs. He said the project was delayed for nearly two years due to the previous government's failure to secure environmental clearances, which increased costs significantly. 'After the present Congress government came to power, clearances were obtained in just two months, and two units totaling 1,600 MW were completed by setting weekly and monthly targets,' he explained. The Deputy CM announced that employees working at the remote site would be provided with world-class educational institutions, corporate-level medical facilities, and local welfare measures. Free education and healthcare will also be extended to local residents who cooperated in the project's construction, along with ambulance services and road development. He assured that those who gave up land for the project would receive jobs by August 15 and full rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) benefits. Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy praised Bhatti Vikramarka for his dynamic supervision, stating that the Yadadri project, once stalled, is now progressing rapidly and will benefit the state's power supply within two years.
