War Is Coming in Exclusive Sneak Peek of This Week's 'MobLand'

Yahoo04-05-2025

Last week's episode of MobLand literally ended with a bang.
Tensions between the Harrigans and the Stevensons hit a boiling point in the wake of Tommy Stevenson's funeral. As the families tried to maintain appearances, the uneasy peace shattered behind closed doors. Richie (Geoff Bell) privately confronted Conrad (Pierce Brosnan), revealing that he knows Eddie (Anson Boon) was responsible for Tommy's murder. Though Richie claimed he didn't want a war, he made one condition clear: Eddie was fair game.
🎬 🎬
Maeve (Helen Mirren) wasn't going to take that threat lightly. The next day, in a brazen act of retribution, she had Richie's wife, Vron (Annie Cooper), killed via a planted car bomb and blowing up any remaining hope for diplomacy and pushing both families to the brink of all-out war. And you can see the tension mount even further in an exclusive sneak peek of this week's Episode 6 below.
In the clip from Sunday's new episode, Richie calls Harry (Tom Hardy), who puts him on speaker with Conrad and Maeve. It soon turns into a declaration of war when Maeve hands the phone to Eddie. With no remorse, he confesses to killing Tommy and adds, with a sneer, that the boy 'squealed like a pig.' Conrad, cold and deliberate, asks Richie if he has anything to say. Richie's response is a single, chilling word: 'Run.'

With the fragile ceasefire obliterated and personal losses mounting on both sides, MobLand barrels into its next chapter with vengeance in the driver's seat. Loyalties will be tested, and no one seems safe from the storm that's coming. If last week was the breaking point, this week promises to be the reckoning.
MobLand, which comes from Ronan Bennett (Day of the Jackal) and includes Guy Ritchie as an executive producer, has quickly become a global phenomenon and success for Paramount+. According to Nielsen live-plus-seven-day figures, the series brought in 8.8 million viewers during its debut week, which quadrupled its premiere day viewership of 2.2 million, marking a 298% increase. That explosive growth makes MobLand the biggest global series launch week in Paramount+ history, placing it alongside hits like 1923 and Landman as one of the streamer's top three debuts to date.

Pierce Brosnan On His "MobLand" Accent

Pierce Brosnan has spoken out about his polarising accent in the TV series MobLand. Although he was born and raised in Ireland, many viewers have been left feeling a little unconvinced by Pierce's Irish twang in the hit TV show, having been more used to hearing him performing with an English accent in the likes of Mrs Doubtfire, Mamma Mia! and the James Bond franchise. One critic in The Irish Times, for example, described Pierce's accent in MobLand as a 'horror for the ages', while The Independent 's review called it 'preposterous'. Speaking to Radio Times, Pierce explained that because his own accent is 'very soft', his character's is 'a million miles away from me'. Pierce also claimed that he told his MobLand dialect coach that he 'needed a Kerry accent, so he gave me the name of a man and I Googled the guy and that was it'. 'I just gave it full tilt,' he claimed. Digital Spy also reported that Pierce told Today FM: 'Last summer I spoke to Guy [Ritchie, the creator of MobLand ] for the first time about [the character's Irish accent] and having read the five episodes he said not to worry about it. '[He said], 'We'll just do it 15 minutes on the day, clear your mind, we'll sort it out, don't worry about it'. Of course, I put the phone down and did worry about it! 'Five weeks later I was on the set with Tom Hardy and Guy, first day, important dialogue, important information and he just said, 'more Irish, more Irish'.' MobLand sees Pierce sharing the screen with Tom Hardy, Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt and Helen Mirren, with whom he also co-stars in Netflix's upcoming adaptation of the best-selling novel The Thursday Murder Club. The 10-part drama has been generally well-received by critics, with no official word yet on whether a second season could be on the cards.

Tom Hardy's Paramount Plus crime thriller just wrapped up an epic first season with a stunning finale

After the premiere of "MobLand," I felt the Paramount Plus show had a major problem, but showed a lot of promise. Fast forward to today's (June 1) season finale, and I can confirm the show wound up delivering on that promise — and then some. No, the show's not perfect by any means. Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren are incredible actors ... just not in this show. They're such caricatures of Irish gangsters that I'm still surprised they agreed to perform their roles the way they did. Then again, there is something very "Guy Ritchie" about their performance, and given the English director's involvement in the show's talented creative team, maybe Brosnan's and Mirren's performance was directed by him in particular. Even though this show isn't technically a Guy Ritchie series — he's an executive producer and director, but "The Day of the Jackal" creator Ronan Bennett is the creative lead behind "MobLand" — it has Ritchie's fingerprints all over it, including the finale. You don't even have to go back far to find a Guy Ritchie movie that feels related to "MobLand." I couldn't stop thinking about "The Gentlemen" while watching this show, especially how much Tom Hardy's Harry Da Souza reminds me of Charlie Hunnam's Raymond Smith. Also, there's plenty of violence. All season long, "MobLand" has been building toward an all-out gang war between the Harrigans and the Stevensons. To call it a simmering conflict would be an understatement. There's been dismemberment, car bombings and much more violence besides. But things go up a notch in the finale. The entire Stevenson crime family gets wiped out in a brilliant move by Harry that involves luring all of Richie Stevenson's (Geoff Bell) soldiers away from the rival gang leader, eliminating them in a hail of gunfire, grenades and bombs. Then, of course, Harry and Kevin (Paddy Considine) kill Richie and the Harrigan family lawyer, O'Hara (Lisa Dawn), who turned out to be a rat. It may be cliche, but this was my favorite part of the episode. First, seeing Harry's move play out in a way that lets you know what's coming just enough for you to get excited for the payoff. Second, Kevin delivering the line 'The Harrigans say hello' right before killing Richie is excellent. Yes, the killer delivering a final line right before the kill has been done before, but it still works. This show may have started slow, but now that the season is over, I can freely admit I've fallen for "MobLand." It's the perfect role for Hardy, who is great on screen with Conisidine. It's just the right blend of clever dialogue, brooding, double crossing and violence, even if the show definitely has some flawed performances and occasionally devolves into cliche. So, Paramount, give us "MobLand" season 2. I'm shocked that the show hasn't been renewed already (it might be by the time this is published), especially since the show is clearly setting up a season 2 with Harry versus the notorious Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer) or a lieutenant of hers we have yet to meet. If we get that showdown, it could genuinely produce a great season of television. Watching Hardy and McTeer on screen this episode gave me real Timothy Olyphant and Margot Martindale in "Justified" season 2 vibes, and that might be one of the greatest seasons of television ever made. Paramount owes it to us and the show to give it the chance to build on a season that's gotten better and better with every episode. Stream "MobLand" on Paramount Plus Malcolm has been with Tom's Guide since 2022, and has been covering the latest in streaming shows and movies since 2023. He's not one to shy away from a hot take, including that "John Wick" is one of the four greatest films ever made. Here's what he's been watching lately:

'MobLand' Release Schedule: When the Finale Drops on Paramount Plus

If you're a Paramount Plus drama with "Land" in its title, viewers will seemingly show up for you. The streamer's new crime series MobLand — and the Taylor Sheridan shows Landman and 1923 — make up the top three launches in Paramount Plus history. It could be Tom Hardy or Guy Ritchie bringing in eyeballs, but I'm sticking with my "Land" theory. MobLand premiered in late March and stars Hardy as a fixer for a crime family who clashes with another family "in a war that threatens to topple empires and lives," according to the streaming service. Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren are part of the star-studded cast, and Ritchie directed the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer. MobLand shares a creator, Ronan Bennett, with Peacock's The Day of the Jackal. As of this writing, the show has a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes. If you're caught up on the series so far, here's how to watch the finale. When to watch MobLand on Paramount Plus In the US, the first nine episodes of MobLand are now streaming on Paramount Plus. The tenth will debut on Sunday. Here's a release schedule for the rest of the season: Episode 10: The Beast in Me — June 1 Paramount Plus subscriptions cost $8 or $13 per month, depending on the tier you select. Both give you access to MobLand. The entry-level Essential plan is ad-supported. The pricier Showtime plan removes most ads and includes downloads and Showtime programming. You can also purchase a full year of either plan and save some money versus paying each month individually.
