Air India Ahmedabad plane crash: Government constituted high-level panel meets, looks into possible causes
The panel, chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, listened to the opinions of various stakeholders about the possible causes of the aircrash and deliberated on steps to be taken to check future occurrence of any such accident, sources said.
In the first meeting of the panel here, the sources said, the focus of the participants was to analyse the possible causes of the aircrash and how to go about in "formulating Standard Operating Procedures for preventing such occurrences in the future".

Since a separate investigation is also being carried out by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which is looking into the technical aspects of the crash, the panel discussed about the possible causes and lesson to be taken from it, the sources said.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Saturday (June 14, 2025) said while the AAIB investigation will handle the technical aspects, the high-level committee will provide a holistic, policy-oriented roadmap for future safeguards.
Those who attended the meeting on Monday include representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Home Ministry, Indian Air Force, Intelligence Bureau, Gujarat government, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, among others.
The committee is expected to submit its report within three months.
The black box of Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane that crashed on Thursday (June 12, 2025) in Ahmedabad was recovered from the site on Friday evening while officials have also confirmed that the Cockpit Voice Recorder has been found, a crucial discovery to help ascertain the possible cause of the accident.
The aircraft from Ahmedabad to London crashed soon after takeoff on Thursday afternoon. Out of 242 people on board the plane, only one person survived.

Arun Nehru demands cold storage at Musiri to help banana farmers
Perambalur Member of Parliament K.N. Arun Nehru has urged the Union government to establish a modern cold storage for banana at Musiri in Tiruchi district for the benefit of farmers. The Musiri-Kulithalai belt in Tiruchi and Karur districts, falling under Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency, is a major banana-growing region in Tamil Nadu. 'The belt encompassing Musiri, Thotttiyam, and Kulithalai, situated on the fertile banks of the Cauvery, is one of the largest banana-producing hubs in the State. Our farmers cultivate several important varieties such as poovan, rasthali, and nendran, which are supplied across the country, and form the backbone of the local agricultural economy. The region lacks modern cold storage infrastructure,' Mr. Arun Nehru said while raising the issue in Lok Sabha recently. Pointing out that banana was a highly perishable fruit, Mr. Nehru said without adequate cold storage, farmers were frequently forced to sell the produce at throwaway prices. This caused significant financial loss and negated the farmers' year-long hard work, the MP said. The presence of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research's National Research Centre for Banana in Tiruchi underscores the strategic importance of the crop in the region, he said and urged the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to sanction a 'large-scale, modern cold storage facility in Musiri.' This would empower farmers by reducing post-harvest wastage and significantly boost the rural economy, he added.

16 BSF personnel awarded gallantry medals for Operation Sindoor
Sixteen Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been awarded gallantry medals for displaying 'conspicuous bravery' and 'unmatched valour' during Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. The medals for gallantry (GM) for these troops, some of whom destroyed enemy surveillance cameras while others neutralised drone attacks, were announced by the Union government on the eve of the 79th Independence Day. 'The medals are a testament to the Nation's faith & trust reposed in India's First Line of Defence: The Border Security Force,' the BSF said in a social media post. Under Operation Sindoor undertaken by the three defence forces along with the BSF on the border, India targeted terrorist and military facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir from May 7 to 10 in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. Two BSF personnel were killed in action while seven were injured during the operation. Sub-Inspector Vyas Dev, who lost his left leg after a Pakistani mortar shell fell at his border post, has been awarded, along with Constable Suddi Rabha, for undertaking a 'risk-prone' mission to replenish ammunition to forward deployed troops during the operation. Dev's citation said he 'suffered life-threatening injuries, but he remained conscious, stabilised himself and bravely engaged in his given task, motivated his fellow soldiers and exhibited tremendous courage'. Rabha stood 'shoulder-to-shoulder' with his commander (Dev) and refused to yield despite suffering grievous injuries. Another unit commanded by under-probation Assistant Commandant Abhishek Srivastav was deployed at the highly sensitive border post at Kharkola in Jammu, only 200 metres from the IB. On May 10, Srivastav along with his troops — Head Constable Brij Mohan Singh and Constables Depeswar Barman, Bhupendra Bajpai, Rajan Kumar and Basavaraja Shivappa Sunkada — engaged a swarm of Pakistani drones and neutralised them, but one UAV dropped a mortar shell in their bunker. Sub-Inspector Mohammed Imteyaj and Constable Deepak Chingakham were killed in this action. They are expected to be decorated with military medals for bravery posthumously. Another unit under Deputy Commandant Ravindra Rathore, Inspector Devi Lal, Head Constable Sahib Singh and Constable Kanwaraj Singh displayed 'exceptional courage' and 'operational brilliance' under intense pressure and saved the life of a fellow jawan 'whose life was in peril'. Assistant Sub-Inspector Udai Vir Singh was deployed at the Jabowal border post in Jammu and he destroyed a Pakistani surveillance camera amid 'intense' enemy fire at his location. Despite suffering a life-threatening sharpnel wound to his upper lip, Singh refused evacuation and went on to destroy a Pakistani 'heavy machine gun nest (post)', his citation stated. 'His actions ensured uninterrupted domination from the Indian side and inspired fellow troops,' it said. ASI Rajappa BT and Constable Manohar Xalxo undertook a 'high risk' mission at border post Karotana Khurd in Jammu on May 10 when the said post reported 'critical shortage' of automatic grenade launcher ammunition. While replenishing the ammunition, a mortar shell fell on the magazine and the two suffered grievous injuries, but they ensured completion of their task. Assistant Commandant Alok Negi, along with two of his troops, executed 'relentless and accurate' mortar fire on enemy positions for 48 hours and their 'fearless' conduct ensured zero casualties and maintained operational dominance, according to the citation. The government also announced gallantry medals for other police and central armed police forces personnel, who undertook other operations. This includes 128 for Jammu and Kashmir Police, 20 for the CRPF and 14 for Chhattisgarh Police.
