Paddy Tally set to leave Derry post after just one season at the helm
The Galbally native took over from fellow Tyrone man Mickey Harte last November, following Harte's own departure after only a year at the helm.
Tally's appointment was the result of an extensive search by the Derry county board, with ex-manager Rory Gallagher consistently linked to the role after Tyrone quickly appointed the highly sought-after Malachy O'Rourke.
Under Tally, Derry failed to win a single game, with nine defeats and two draws, but the Oak Leafers did appear to be on an upward trajectory at the end of the season.
Having been relegated from Division One in the spring along with the Red Hands, Derry suffered an Ulster preliminary round defeat to Donegal and were subsequently drawn in the so-called Group of Death in the All-Ireland series.
They fared well against 2024 All-Ireland champions Armagh before drawing with Galway in Celtic Park.
However, a battling two-point loss to Dublin in Newry ultimately proved to be Tally's final game in charge.
Although there was no suggestion that Tally was heading for the exit in the immediate aftermath of the Dublin defeat, it is understood he was keen to revamp his backroom team for 2026.
That now won't be the case as Derry begin the search for what will be their third manager in as many seasons.
It took them four months to appoint Tally and the sudden nature of his departure might suggest that another candidate is already lined up.
Along with Gallagher, other names who were linked to the role last year were current Armagh coach and former Derry star Conleith Gilligan and his former Ballinderry teammate and Cargin boss Ronan Devlin, although the former has also been linked to the managerial vacancy in Antrim.

Second half goal burst carries Kerry into maiden All-Ireland intermediate camogie decider
Kerry 3-12 Down 0-16 A two-goal burst early in the second half was enough for Kerry to see off a close Down challenge and book their place in a maiden All-Ireland intermediate camogie final. Down, champions of five years ago, had actually lost to Kerry in the group stage but looked far more composed and assured in the early stages, with sharpshooting Paula O'Hagan helping them into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead. Joint captains Jackie Horgan and Patrice Diggin got on the mark for Kerry. The Kingdom were struggling with Down's pace and power, especially in midfield, but caught a real stroke of luck as a sun-blinded Down keeper was unsighted and accidentally deflected a high ball into her own net from a May O'Sullivan point attempt. That gave Kerry something of a lifeline and they gradually began to grow into the game, but with O'Hagan peerless from dead balls, Down were full value for their 0-9 to 1-5 half-time lead. The sides exchanged two points each in a lively start to the second half, but then a fantastic burst by Anne Marie Leen ended up in a penalty which was expertly dispatched to the net by Patrice Diggin. Eva Gallagher on song as Donegal secure their senior status
Eva Gallagher was in flying form for Donegal at Kilcoyne Park in Tubbercurry on Saturday as the O'Donnell County secured their TG4 All-Ireland senior football championship status with a relegation play-off victory over Leitrim. While Gallagher broke the deadlock with a fine point inside the opening 60 seconds, Leitrim squeezed in front courtesy of unanswered efforts by Muireann Devaney (a late addition to the starting line-up) and Ailbhe Clancy. Yet Kilcar attacker Gallagher soon followed with her second point of the game and when Katie Dowds fed Susanne White close to goal on nine minutes, the latter fired smoothly into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. Following traded scores between the influential Gallagher and Leah Fox, Donegal stretched six clear when Gallagher, Dowds and Mia Bennett split the uprights in quick succession. However, after Laura O'Dowd (older sister of Dublin midfielder Eilish O'Dowd) cut Leitrim's deficit in half with a 19th minute goal, Fox's second of the day left just two points between the teams. Gallagher (her fifth of the half) and Clancy raised further white flags for their side as the action progressed, before Jodie McFadden fired home a second Donegal major on 24 minutes. This propelled James Daly's Ulster side towards a 2-7 to 1-5 interval buffer and with Niamh Boyle, White and Bennett all on target, they enjoyed a whirlwind start to the second half. Donegal remained in the driving seat after Gallagher and the ever-dangerous Devaney bagged two points apiece at either end of the pitch, but 2024 TG4 All-Ireland intermediate football championship winners Leitrim weren't prepared to go down without a fight. In the space of eight minutes inside the final-quarter, Jonny Garrity's side outscored their O'Donnell counterparts by 0-5 to 0-1 – the impressive Devaney bagging four points to compliment a single contribution from Fox. They subsequently received a potential lifeline when Devaney was fouled inside the small square on 58 minutes, but her resulting penalty was saved low by Donegal netminder Clare Friel. This could have been the spark they needed to turn the tide in their favour, but with Gallagher and White knocking over late points for their opponents, Leitrim ultimately couldn't avoid a return to the intermediate championship for 2026.
