The WNBA's brightest young star, Caitlin Clark, continues to elevate her status in the league. Recently, she has become a fan-voted All-Star captain. As Indianapolis gears up to host its first-ever WNBA All-Star weekend, all eyes are on Clark, who earned the captaincy honor with a league-leading 1,293,526 votes.
She has secured her second consecutive All-Star selection and her first as a team captain.

Caitlin Clark's selection couldn't have come at a more poetic time. The Indiana Fever guard will lead one of the All-Star teams on her home court at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on July 19. Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier will serve as the other captain alongside Clark, with both stars scheduled to draft their All-Star rosters during the WNBA Countdown show on July 8.

'Yeah, obviously it's cool,' Clark said when asked about the honor. 'It's cool that fans get to be a part of it and have a little impact on the game. I think also it's going to be really special to be able to do it here in this city.'
The Fever, currently sitting at 8-8 in the standings, have had a gritty first half of the season despite Clark missing seven games due to injury. The team's recent wins over Seattle and Dallas, where Clark sat out due to a groin strain, have only added to the excitement surrounding the All-Star festivities.

Clark also shared her priorities lie when it comes to the draft. 'Obviously, I'm going to try to get my teammates on my team. Why wouldn't I?' she said. 'That's the goal.' Fever standouts Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell are strong candidates for All-Star spots, giving Clark a solid chance to assemble a hometown-heavy squad.
Her head coach, Stephanie White, expressed pride and anticipation for what the All-Star weekend means to Indianapolis.
'You saw it with the NBA and the ability for fans to show up and show out,' White said. 'Caitlin being able to be a captain, she's going to put on her GM hat. We'll see how that works out for her.'
Still, when it comes to drafting strategies, White is happy to let others take the lead. 'I am not a GM, so she'd have to talk to Amber (Cox) about that,' she added with a smile.
Clark also highlighted the behind-the-scenes efforts that made the weekend possible.
'There's already been so much time and effort put in by people that aren't going to get credit for what they did to bring All-Star here,' she said. 'We're trying to make it the best All-Star the WNBA has ever had.'
