Earlier, the Karnataka high court said no forceful action should be taken against Sonu Nigam until the next hearing. The court also stopped the police from filing the final report in the case. Additional State Public Prosecutor B.N. Jagadeesha told the court that 'no coercive steps" will be taken if Sonu Nigam cooperates with the police. Nigam had asked the Karnataka high court to cancel the FIR filed against him.
What led to the FIR?
The FIR was filed on 3 May 2025 at Avalahalli Police Station after a complaint by the group Karnataka Rakshana Vedike. It was related to Sonu's comments made during a concert on 27 April 2025 at East Point College of Engineering and Technology in Bengaluru.
Sonu Nigam's controversial comments
At the event, Sonu criticised a fan who had rudely asked for a Kannada song. He compared the fan's behaviour to the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack. He said, 'Mujhe accha nahi laga ki waha ek ladka jiski umar, jitni uske umar nahi hogi use pehle toh main Kannada gaane garaha hoon. He was so rudely threatening me, 'Kannada, Kannada'. Yahi kaaran hai, Pahalgam mein jo hua hai na? Yahi kaaran hai jo karrahe ho, jo kiya tha na abhi? Dekho toh kaun saamne khada hai. I love Kannadigas, I love you guys. Main puri duniya mein jaha bhi jata hoon, main humesha bolta hoon main, sabko bolta hoon main…14,000 ki audience hog usme ek awaaz aati hai, 'Kannada'. Toh main unke liye, us ek Kannadiga k liye main kuch line Kannadiga k gaata hoon. Main itni izzat karta hoon aapki, itna pyaar karta hoon. So thoda sa rehna chahiye, aesa nahi karna chahiye aapko." These words caused a strong reaction from the Kannada-speaking community, who felt hurt and offended.
Sonu Nigam's apology
After the backlash, Sonu Nigam apologised on social media, saying, 'Sorry Karnataka. My love for you is bigger than my ego. Love you always."

Ektaa Kapoor REACTS to Anurag Kashyap's ‘saas bahu' dig; calls it ‘classist' and ‘dumb': ‘Artists who talk of...'

Ektaa Kapoor has fired back strongly at filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for his recent remarks about 'saas bahu' TV dramas. The producer, known for creating some of India's most popular family soaps, called Kashyap 'classist' for looking down on these shows. Ektaa defends her daily soaps Ektaa responded strongly to Anurag's dig. Taking to her Instagram stories, she wrote, 'Ur so dumb... saying this put u on an advantage 'I'm smarter cooler' but naaaaaaaa! Darling how about gracious!!! N self aware?????? An art a lot of artists don't have!' She added, ''Saas bahu' n their impact on Indian masses (how women got a voice in mass India) is well documented by a prestigious Chicago research! But artists who talk of an inclusive world are actually more classist.' Ektaa didn't stop there. Without naming anyone, she wrote, 'We must do away with this 'U can't sit with us we r better' attitude for democracy n fair play! Love n light to all (sic).' What started it all? The entire row began after Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos appeared on Nikhil Kamath's podcast and spoke about launching Netflix in India. Reflecting on the decision, he said he would have done things differently. According to Ted, starting the platform in India with the series 'Sacred Games' may not have been the right move, and something 'more populist' might have worked better. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo Anurag Kashyap lashes out Anurag Kashyap, who directed and produced 'Sacred Games', did not take the comment lightly.
