Govt directs CISF to check cargo, in-line baggage in view of enhanced security measures
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Saturday (May 10, 2025) said it has extended an additional security cover to temporarily supervise cargo operations and in-line hold baggage screening system at 69 civil airports of the country under its counter-terrorist cover.
A spokesperson for the paramilitary force said the move has been initiated following a directive issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on May 9, "temporarily" extending CISF's cover to these processes in "direct response" to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the subsequent security scenario in the country.
This new arrangement will be in place till May 18, the spokesperson said.
The CISF is usually only entrusted to frisk passengers and their cabin baggage. The cargo and In-line Hold Baggage Screening System (ILHBSS) checking was done by private security staff engaged by the airlines and airport operators.

"The enhancement of CISF's mandate is essential to reinforce security arrangements at all civil airports," the spokesperson said. He added that the CISF has responded immediately and resumed "oversight" over cargo and baggage operations.
The CISF will also "oversee" operations and the security staff of airport operators for ILHBSS, he said.
The directives also authorise CISF personnel to perform random checks and oversee access control to these "critical" facilities (airports), the spokesperson added.
All the airports under cover of the CISF have "already implemented" the new strengthened system, he said.
Prior to this directive, CISF's deployment as the primary aviation security force did not explicitly extend to the direct security and screening of cargo operations and the ILHBSS, officials explained.
The decision aims to introduce a crucial secondary layer of security checks to enhance aviation security, he said.

A 25-year-Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer was killed and a 28-year-old man was severely injured after a car collided head-on with their motorcycle on a single-lane road in a rural area in Jewar, Greater Noida, on Saturday morning, police said on Sunday. The accident occurred because the car driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, said police, adding that was arrested at the scene and his vehicle was seized. The deceased, Sheespal Singh, a resident of Hasanpur village in Dankaur, Greater Noida, was posted at Parliament House in Delhi and had taken a day off to visit home, police said. The injured man was identified as Singh's relative, Jitendra Singh. 'The accident took place at 8am when Jitendra Singh was taking Singh to the bus stand. They were heading towards Khurja when a car coming from the opposite direction, from the Mathura side, collided with them head-on near Bankapur in Jewar,' said Sanjay Kumar Singh, station house officer, Jewar police station. The car driver, Ajay Sharma, a resident of Khurja, had driven a Khurja-basedfamily of five people to Mathura to offer prayers at a temple and was returning with them. However, he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and collided with the motorcycle, police said. 'The car crashed into a tree after hitting the bike. The family had a narrow escape as there is a trench beside the road — had the car not hit the tree, it could have fallen into the trench,' the SHO added. Passersby informed police and a team from Jewar police rushed to the scene. They took the injured to a nearby hospital where Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment while Jitendra Singh remains in critical condition. 'Singh is survived by his parents and wife, who is four months pregnant. Further investigation is underway,' SHO Singh said.

Telangana: Passing out parade held for 347 CISF trainees at NISA
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 7 (ANI): The Passing out parade of the 49th batch of Sub-Inspector trainees was held with grandeur at the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA), CISF, Hakimpet, Hyderabad. Nilima Rani Singh, Inspector General, CISF Central Sector, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her address, she commended the dedication, perseverance, and professionalism demonstrated by the trainees throughout their training. She emphasised the significance of their achievement and encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of integrity and service as they step into operational roles. The ceremony was attended by senior CISF officers, stakeholders, senior civil and police officials, and the proud families of the graduating officers. Patna-bound flight gets hoax bomb threat
Patna: A bomb hoax threat was reported on Ahmedabad-Patna IndiGo flight (6E 921) minutes before its landing at the Patna airport on Wednesday, triggering panic among the passengers and authorities. The threat message was received by the IndiGo station manager via WhatsApp just a few minutes before the flight's scheduled landing at the Patna airport. The flight landed safely and was taken to an isolation bay for a thorough inspection. Bomb disposal and dog squad teams were called to search the aircraft. After a comprehensive search, no explosives or suspicious objects were found. The IndiGo flight 6E 921 departed from Ahmedabad at 10.55am and arrived at Patna airport around 1pm. Before the arrival of the aircraft, the airline's station manager, Shalini, received a WhatsApp message containing a photograph of a tissue paper with the word 'bomb' written on it. An Airports Authority of India (AAI) representative said, "The IndiGo official immediately informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) about it, which in turn alerted the CISF, which provides security cover to the airport." Following safety protocols, all passengers were evacuated from the aircraft approximately 40 minutes after landing. The CISF personnel, along with sniffer dogs and explosive detection equipment, conducted an extensive search of the aircraft but found nothing suspicious. The evacuated passengers experienced an additional hour-long delay in collecting their luggage. Airport authorities are probing the origin of the hoax message.
