ROWLAND SECURES HOME WIN FOR NISSAN IN TOKYO E-PRIX ROUND 9

ROWLAND SECURES HOME WIN FOR NISSAN IN TOKYO E-PRIX ROUND 9

Web Release19-05-2025

Nissan's Oliver Rowland secured the race win in the 2025 Tokyo E-Prix Round 9, his fourth victory of the season and on home soil for the Japanese marque.
The polesitter had slipped to sixth during a late jump for ATTACK MODE, but he was able to make the final few seconds of his last mandatory 50kW four-wheel drive boost count as he sliced by then-leader, reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein. The Porsche driver squeezed Rowland on the defence between Turns 15 and 16 but was unable to hold on.
Three poles, two podiums and now the race win in Formula E's three races in the Japanese capital so far for Rowland – much to the delight of many in the grandstands donning Nissan red.
Wehrlein would have to settle for second following that late move despite his best efforts to cling to P1, while Dan Ticktum (CUPRA KIRO) was left ruing a late appearance by the Safety Car which scuppered his chances of bettering what was to be a maiden podium. It could have been more, with the Brit holding energy in-hand over the duo ahead, but Ticktum would be more than happy to secure his first Formula E silverware – and the team's best result since Mexico City, 2018.
Jake Dennis (Andretti) made stealthy progress through the pack with consummate use of ATTACK MODE and some smart moves on the way to fourth, up from 14th on the grid at lights out.
Lucas di Grassi followed up a strong showing in qualifying for Lola Yamaha ABT with a fighting fifth at the flag while Jean-Eric Vergne rounded out the top six for DS PENSKE.
Rowland stretches his legs even further as the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship passes its halfway mark. He's now sitting pretty on 161 points to Wehrlein's 84, the largest Championship lead in Formula E history at the half-way point.
Nissan leads Porsche in both the Teams' and the Manufacturers' World Championships as Formula E heads next to a double-header in Shanghai, China on 31 May & 1 June.
Oliver Rowland, No. 23, Nissan Formula E Team said:
'No words! I was not a master of strategy in the first half of the race, I was pretty disappointed in myself. But I figured out that everybody would kind of undercut me so I thought: 'I've got six minutes, I'll undercut them' and in the end it worked. I knew they would all react. I just had to make the progress on the first lap so it paid off today, but I was a bit lucky. I've always said that in Tokyo and Shanghai I need to keep pushing to extend the Championship lead. Going into Shanghai I'll have the same approach this year and then maybe after that we can start to think about the lead we've got.'
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues in Shanghai with Rounds 10 & 11.

French Open: Defending champion Alcaraz cruises into last four

Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz glided into the semifinals of Roland Garros on Tuesday, blowing away American 12th seed Tommy Paul for the loss of just five games in the night session on Court Philippe Chatrier. The Spaniard needed just one hour 34 minutes to dismantle former world number nine Paul 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 and set up a last-four meeting with Italy's Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti, seeded eighth, earlier beat Paul's compatriot and 15th seed Frances Tiafoe in four sets. It will be the third time Alcaraz and Musetti meet this clay-court season. Alcaraz has dominated that series, beating the Italian in the final in Monte Carlo before also stopping him in the last four on his way to the Rome title. And the 22-year-old's blistering performance under the lights on centre court in Paris will have many backing him to make it three from three against Musetti as he seeks to defend his title. "It was, I could close my eyes and everything went in, my feeling today was amazing. Today was one of those matches where everything went in, I'm just pleased with everything," said Alcaraz. Alcaraz fired 40 winners on his way to victory over Paul for just 22 unforced errors as he emphatically put inconsistent displays in the previous rounds behind him. "This kind of match is never easy," he said. "I've played Tommy many times and he's beat me twice." Despite previous success against Alcaraz, it took the 28-year-old American eight games to get on the scoreboard as his opponent raced out of the blocks, mixing powerful groundstrokes with perfectly-weighted drop-shots and lobs. Paul put up determined resistance in the third set but couldn't deny Alcaraz, who broke in the ninth game before holding to love for victory. "I know you wanted to watch more tennis," an apologetic Alcaraz told the crowd on centre court. "I have to say sorry for that. But I had to do my work." Paul has now lost his last four meetings with Alcaraz, including at the same venue last year in the last eight of the Olympic Games.

Nissan advances its phygital retail transformation across the Middle East

Nissan is redefining the automotive journey in the Middle East by continuing to invest in an integrated phygital experience, seamlessly connecting physical touchpoints with digital innovation. As part of this transformation, more than 80% of Nissan sales facilities across the region are now upgraded under the global Nissan Retail Concept (NRC), reflecting the brands commitment to delivering a premium and consistent customer experience across every interaction. Making significant regional milestone, this development builds on Nissan's multi-year journey to reshape traditional automotive retail. Through NRC, customers experience a seamless blend of contemporary showroom design, optimized service processes, and cutting-edge digital tools. Whether exploring a vehicle online, stepping into a showroom or scheduling a service appointment, every touchpoint is designed to be modern, convenient and engaging. Thierry Sabbagh, Divisional Vice President, President – Middle East, KSA, and CIS – Nissan, INFINITI, commented: 'Exceptional experiences begin the moment a customer interacts with our brand, physically or digitally. NRC represents our commitment to delivering best-in-class service and design that reflects Nissan's global standards. Surpassing 80% NRC adoption across the Middle East is a testament to the strong partnership we share with our dealer network and our unwavering focus on customers.' Nissan remains fully committed to upgrading all showrooms in the Middle East, while continuing to expand its presence with new facilities. Bahrain has already achieved full NRC integration. Following new dealer appointments, markets like Oman and Iraq are progressing at a record pace, with several new NRC-standard showrooms openings in the past 12 months. Meanwhile, the UAE hosts the largest Nissan network in the region, with 14 showrooms across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and the Northen Emirates. While NRC's global framework primarily targets sales facilities, Nissan Middle East has gone beyond these benchmarks by enhancing select service and parts centers, reinforcing a holistic and customer-centric approach. This includes flagship examples such as the Musaffah Service Center in Abu Dhabi, Nissan's largest service facility in the world, and dedicated Patrol-only Service Center in Kuwait which is on track to be upgraded to NRC standards within this fiscal year. Nissan's customer-first approach is further demonstrated through two pillars: Nissan Service, built on eight excellence promises that ensure transparency, convenience, and trust; and the Customer Excellence Program, a robust digital platform that captures real-time customer feedback across both sales and service. This platform enables continuous improvement across all facilities, online and offline, and in every market. Customer feedback continues to affirm Nissan's approach, with an average satisfaction rating exceeding 90% across physical sales and service facilities during FY24. Online experiences also rank high, with a website rating of 4.4, driven in part by Nissan's enhanced e-commerce offering. This includes the successful online booking of the all-new Patrol following its global launch last year. 'Seeing such strong customer satisfaction scores, both in our facilities and online, is a proud moment for all of us,' added Sabbagh. 'It reflects the dedication of our teams and partners to delivering exceptional experiences that truly resonate with customers.' As Nissan continues to defy ordinary, its retail transformation reflects a future-facing vision for automotive experiences, built around innovation, consistency, and excellence at every step of the customer journey.

CASSIDY PRODUCES DOMINANT LIGHTS-TO-FLAG VICTORY ON RAIN-SOAKED SUNDAY IN SHANGHAI

Amid torrid conditions, Jaguar TCS Racing's Nick Cassidy converted from pole, leading every lap of the race to produce a first win of the season in the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix Round 11 at a rain-soaked Shanghai International Circuit. Cassidy topped a weather-truncated Groups-only qualifying session to seal pole and strode away into an immediate lead, where he was able to stay for the duration of Round 11 in tricky conditions as the rain continued to fall – though less heavily than throughout the morning. The win was a first lights-to-flag victory of the GEN3 Evo era and a return to the top step for the New Zealander. Reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein got the better of his teammate through the first round of ATTACK MODE activations; the German leading home António Félix da Costa despite an early slip, as TAG Heuer Porsche capitalised on a Nissan non-score to round out the podium and propel the Stuttgart marque to the top of the FIA Teams' World Championship table – a full reversal after TAG Heuer Porsche failed to score on Saturday. Jake Hughes (Maserati MSG Racing) brought it home fourth, Jean-Éric Vergne (DS PENSKE) fifth and Nico Mueller (Andretti) finished sixth. The second Maserati of Stoffel Vandoorne finished seventh despite pirouetting two laps from the chequered flag, ahead of Robin Frijns (Envision Racing), Lucas di Grassi (Lola Yamaha ABT) and NEOM McLaren's Taylor Barnard. The difficult conditions caught out a number of other drivers including Jake Dennis, Nyck de Vries, Dan Ticktum and Sam Bird with standing water significant in spots around the circuit throughout the race. Even so, 21 of the 22 cars managed to make it to the end of the race as their race craft was pushed to the limit. The result sees Rowland's lead reduce to 68 points over Pascal Wehrlein (103 points), with da Costa in third (88 points) with only five races remaining this season. Porsche retakes the top spot in the FIA Teams' World Championship running from Nissan, while Nissan leads Porsche in the FIA Manufacturers' World Championship standings. Nick Cassidy, No. 37, Jaguar TCS Racing said: 'This weekend is a massive highlight. Really proud of all our guys. Qualifying form yesterday was huge for us, we were in the game, and I'm just proud that we've come back today and our pace was absolutely unbelievable – what a race. I feel like there have been so many wins that probably should have been ours at the end of last season that never happened, and it feels like we've been waiting a long time. That's certainly on your mind when you go through the last couple of laps, and now to get that monkey off the back is awesome.' The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues in Jakarta with Round 12 on 21 June.
