
Cops burn 714kg narcotics
Nagpur: City police destroyed 714kg of narcotics worth Rs1.32 crore on Tuesday. The seized drugs, including mephedrone, ganja, charas, and doda powder from 54 cases, were incinerated at Butibori, adhering to Maharashtra Pollution Control Board norms.
The event, organised under the Operation Thunder campaign to foster a drug-free society, was witnessed by the Drugs Disposal Committee. Students and youth from local schools and colleges observed the destruction process and were educated on the devastating effects of narcotics on human life.
Commissioner Singal emphasised the importance of collective action in combating drug abuse, aligning with the global observance of International Anti-Drug Day on June 26. The initiative aims to raise awareness and curb drug-related issues across Nagpur.

Sand artist creates sculpture to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
Puri (Odisha) [India], June 26 (ANI): Renowned sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik on Thursday created a powerful sand sculpture on Puri beach in Odisha to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Below the sculpture, 'Say NO to addiction, YES to life' was written. Through his art, Pattnaik aimed to highlight the devastating effects of drugs on individuals. Pattnaik's informed that the state is running a campaign called 'Nisha Nuhin Jeevan' (Life Without Addiction), which aims to educate people about the risks associated with substance abuse. Speaking to ANI, Pattnaik said, 'We artists try to spread awareness among people through our art by creating sand sculptures. Apart from this, our state is running a 'Nisha Nuhin Jeevan' campaign. As an artist, I showed through my art how drugs and injections affect our bodies, and we can avoid it by not taking drugs and saving lives...' As the world celebrates the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking today, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, also reminded the harms of drug consumption and said that drug addiction not only affects the mental and physical condition of a person, but also hinders the progress of the families, society and the state. The Chief Minister shared his commitment to making Uttarakhand drug-free and further added that efforts are being made to make Uttarakhand drug-free, and to ensure success, the participation of all is very important. On the occasion of International Anti-Drug Day, he urged all to spread awareness in society about the harmful effects of drug addiction. June 26, observed as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, is a United Nations International Day. This day aims to spread awareness regarding the harmful effects of drug use and to fight against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. This day has been observed since 1989. June 26 was chosen to commemorate Lin Zexu's (Chinese political philosopher and politician) dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong, ending on June 25, 1839, just before the First Opium War in China. Every year, a theme is chosen, and this year's theme is 'The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention.' (ANI)

Jharkhand Govt holds marathon to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], June 26 (ANI): In a strong message against substance abuse, the Jharkhand Government on Wednesday organised a marathon from Morhabadi Ground to Albert Ekka Chowk to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Speaking at the event, Jharkhand Sports Minister Sudivya Kumar said, 'I hope all districts will take further steps to fight the drug menace.' Earlier on June 22, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Director General Anurag Garg highlighted the growing challenge of drug abuse and the bureau's renewed approach toward combating it. '26 June is celebrated as International Anti-Drug day and the way it is emerging in our society, NCB has decided that we won't celebrate it as a day, we will celebrate it as a Pakhwada,' he said. He further added that the bureau is taking the campaign to the grassroots by engaging with communities across the country. 'On this occasion, we are celebrating different programmes in various locations - schools, colleges, and public places and providing information about the side effects of drugs,' Garg said. In Visakhapatnam, the Narcotics Control Bureau along with EAGLE Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with Decathlon, successfully organised a Cyclothon on June 22 as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pakhwada' campaign. The event was held in alignment with the United Nations' resolution to observe June 26 as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The Cyclothon was flagged off by Pankaj Kumar Dwivedi, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and the event was coordinated by Rajan Kumar, Superintendent, NCB Visakhapatnam, S Ramesh, Inspector EAGLE and Kalyani, Inspector, initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from various stakeholders including EAGLE Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Visakhapatnam, and State Bank of India (SBI), Siripuram Branch. Over 100 cyclists from diverse backgrounds took part in the event, raising awareness and spreading the powerful message, 'Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs.' The participants pedalled through designated city routes, symbolising unity and a collective stand against the menace of drug abuse. The event reinforced NCB' s and ANTF' S commitment to community engagement and drug prevention through public awareness initiatives and collaborative efforts. (ANI)

DCP Rashmitha Rao Counsels Drug Addicts At Rehab Centre
Nagpur: As part of the ongoing Operation Thunder anti-drug awareness campaign, deputy commissioner of police (zone 4) Rashmi Rao personally interacted with and counselled over 50 recovering drug addicts at Prerna De-Addiction Centre on Besa-Pipla Marg. The session was conducted on June 24 under the weeklong World Anti-Drug Day events by Nagpur city police. Held between 8pm and 9pm, the session focused on educating in-patients at the centre about the physical, mental, and social consequences of substance abuse. Rao, along with assistant commissioner of police (Ajni division) Narendra Hiware, urged the recovering individuals to embrace a drug-free lifestyle and reclaim their lives and families. Speaking at the session, Rao emphasized that drug abuse doesn't just destroy health but also shatters homes and children's futures. "Rehabilitation is not just about quitting a substance — it's about building a stronger life," she said. The event was part of the broader Operation Thunder initiative launched by police commissioner Ravinder Singal, with awareness programmes scheduled from June 20 to 26 across the city. Prerna De-Addiction Centre, run by Prashant Bharti for the last 14 years, has treated over 1,200 patients. According to Bharti, nearly 50–60% of those treated have fully recovered and reintegrated into society, many now living stable, addiction-free lives. DCP Rao was accompanied by a team of cops led by PI Mukund Kawade of the Beltarodi police station.
