Shrewsbury keeper Savin joins Barnet on loan
Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Toby Savin has joined National League leaders Barnet on a month's loan. Savin, 23, joined Salop from Accrington Stanley last summer. He played in their first 19 League One matches of the season but has not featured since being dropped in December following back-to-back 4-1 defeats. Boss Gareth Ainsworth, whose side are battling against relegation, replaced Savin with Jamal Blackman. Meanwhile, keeper Joe Young has returned to Shrewsbury from a loan spell at National League North club Brackley Town.

A return to the second tier seemed an impossible dream during the Reds' decade-and-a-half non-league exile, however Phil Parkinson's side will be tackling the likes of Southampton, Sheffield United and Leicester City on an equal footing during the forthcoming campaign. "Of course, we say... we talk about the Premier League, but really, you know, League One, let's focus on that and then, suddenly, here we are. "One promotion away from the Premier League. It's quite daunting in many respects." While the promotions have been celebrated by fans and players alike, they've also been well deserved, with plenty of hard work taking place behind the scenes. Ker added: "I think we do, collectively, pinch ourselves a lot. But then, ultimately, you find yourself going 'well yes, but of course we did work very hard' and we put the time in and we put in place our structure that we thought would get us to where we wanted to go. "Then (we) have been rewarded by, you know, you select the right people, you empower them, you support them and then, actually, it's not that surprising that they deliver in a way."

Gareth Bale part of rejected group bid to buy Cardiff City
Gareth Bale is part of a United States investment group hoping to buy League One club Cardiff City, according to reports. The 35-year-old former Wales Captain is understood to be part of a consortium that approached current Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan with a letter of intent to buy the club last month. The Athletic reports that the letter included financial figures but the bid was rejected. Cardiff declined to comment on Friday night. Earlier this week the US consortium was also linked with a takeover of Plymouth Argyle. Bale retired from football in January 2023 at the age of 33. He won five Champions League titles with Real and is the men's all-time record goalscorer for Wales with 41 in 111 caps. He was linked with an emotional move to Cardiff, his hometown club, after leaving Madrid in 2022 but instead joined MLS side LAFC. Bale featured for Wales at the 2022 World Cup – their first appearance at the global finals since 1958 – and at the Euros in 2016 and 2020. Cardiff were relegated to League One last season and appointed Brian Barry-Murphy as their new manager this is seeking to be the latest big sporting name to be associated with an EFL club. His former Real team-mate Luka Modric became an investor in and co-owner of Championship side Swansea in April, while ex-NFL quarterback Tom Brady has a minority stake in Birmingham.
