Bihar SIR in focus as Rahul Gandhi hosts INDIA bloc leaders
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday hosted a dinner for leaders of 25 INDIA bloc parties at his official residence in Delhi, where he showed them a presentation alleging fraud in the Lok Sabha voter roll in a constituency in Karnataka and said that after Maharashtra, Karnataka and Haryana, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission will 'definitely' try to steal votes in the upcoming polls in Bihar, West Bengal and Assam. LoP in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with party leader Sonia Gandhi, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, his daughter and party leader Supriya Sule and other INDIA bloc leaders during a dinner meet, in New Delhi.(AICC) The INDIA bloc parties decided to march to EC on August 11 to protest against the controversial special intensive revision of voter rolls in Bihar, and discrepancies in voter lists, leaders present in the meeting said, in what is likely to become a major show of strength for the group. Gandhi hosted the leaders at his new Sunehri Bagh Road bungalow and according to three leaders who attended the dinner, the focus of the gathering was entirely on the alleged discrepancies in the voter list and SIR in Bihar. Gandhi, on social media, said, 'I laid out BJP-EC's #VoteChori blueprint before INDIA alliance leaders tonight. INDIA is united, determined, and ready to defend democracy.' This was the first dinner meeting hosted by Gandhi. Congress leaders pointed out that all top-ranking leaders of the INDIA bloc attended the dinner, turning it into one of the major meetings of the two-year-old group. In 2021, Rahul Gandhi had hosted a breakfast meeting at the Constitution Club, but many top leaders skipped the event and sent second-rung leaders. This time, the raging issue of SIR as well as Gandhi's elevated status as the LoP drew senior leaders such as Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, Abhishek Banerjee and Derek O'Brien of the Trinamool Congress, MA Baby of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), K Kanimozhi and TR Baalu of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and former J&K chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. According to a leader, Gandhi gave a presentation on Karnataka's Mahadevapura assembly seat, repeating allegations made earlier in the day that a large number of duplicate and fraud voters had entered the rolls in the constituency and that cost the Congress the seat. While there was no structured discussion on the issues, former deputy chief minister of Bihar Tejaswi Yadav appraised the INDIA leaders about the SIR in Bihar and alleged that 'EC and the BJP are hand in glove.' 'They are trying to capture votes,' Yadav said at the dinner, according to leaders cited above. Gandhi pitched the protests against EC as a battle for strengthening democracy. He told leaders, 'We should not rest but fight, otherwise free and fair elections will not happen in India,' according to the leaders. Yadav also announced a major rally in Bihar against SIR and urged all INDIA parties to join the final stage of the programme. National Conference veteran Farooq Abdullah urged the leaders to take up the issue of restoration of J&K's statehood both inside and outside Parliament, they said. According to two leaders, there was no discussion on the upcoming vice presidential election.

Election Commission asks Rahul Gandhi for signed oath, proof of vote fraud claims
Bengaluru: Hours after Rahul Gandhi , Congress MP and leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, alleged large-scale voter fraud in Karnataka, chief electoral officer (CEO) V Anbu Kumar formally wrote to him, seeking a signed declaration supporting his allegations and promising appropriate action if substantiated. Kumar suggested the declaration could be submitted in person since Rahul, together with a Congress delegation, is scheduled to visit the CEO's office in Bengaluru between 1pm and 3pm on Friday to submit a memorandum on vote fraud. Kumar's letter, issued under Rule 20(3)(b) of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, asks Rahul to provide specific details — names, part numbers, and serial numbers — of voters he believes were either wrongly included or excluded from the state's electoral rolls. The CEO released the letter along with the declaration format on its social media handles Thursday. Enclosed with the letter was a formal declaration format, which reads: "I, Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament, do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath the statement I am about to make under Rule 20 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 concerning… is true to the best of my knowledge (sic)." The declaration also warns of penal consequences in case of false statements. "Giving false evidence is punishable under Section 227 of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita 2023." If proved, the offence may invite imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine of up to Rs 10,000. The CEO's communication followed Rahul's allegations at a press conference in New Delhi where he declared there was "vote chori" involving 1,00,250 votes in one Karnataka constituency. He alleged 11,965 duplicate voters in one assembly segment, 40,009 voters with fake or invalid addresses, 10,452 bulk or single-address voters, 4,132 voters with invalid photographs, and 33,692 voters who allegedly misused Form 6 for new registrations. Delhi Confidential: Saying It With Smile
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was at the receiving end of jibes from his colleagues on Thursday. At the Makar Dwar, two senior MPs — RSP's N K Premachandran and Congress' Benny Behanan — told him that they have come up with a new slogan to raise inside the Lok Sabha — 'Pradhan Mantri Sadan mein aao, Tharoor wapas UN jao (PM come to House, Tharoor go back to the UN)'. The Thiruvananthapuram MP took the comment sportingly and smiled. Premachandran continued to take a swipe at him saying, 'He (Tharoor) is such an obedient party MP that he did not even table the papers listed against his name today.' Tharoor quickly responded that the Opposition has 'double standards' when it comes to laying papers in the two Houses. 'In Rajya Sabha, the Opposition MPs are allowed to lay papers on table if their name is listed,' he said, referring to CPI(M) MP John Brittas tabling the Standing Committee report on External Affairs. In the Lok Sabha, BJP MP Arun Govil tabled the same as Tharoor, whose name was listed, was not allowed to lay the papers. Senior BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe is making efforts to generate interest among party MPs about new technological developments. Sahasrabuddhe, who is the vice-chairman of Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, a centre linked with BJP-RSS and designed to 'produce trained, ethical, and responsible leaders', invited some MPs on Thursday for a session to understand the impact of Artificial Intelligence on society and economy. AI experts from Bharat Gen, a government initiative at IIT Mumbai, briefed the parliamentarians. For those who attended the session, the most interesting aspect was the Indian language tools developed by Bharat Gen, a government-funded AI based multimodal LLM.
