‘I reach for this £25 summer body mist over my pricey perfumes'
I've got a dressing table filled with perfumes from some of my favourite fragrance brands – including Jo Malone London, Maison Margiela Replica and Glossier – which probably totals hundreds of pounds, but recently I've been skipping all of these and reaching for one particular brand of body mist instead – and they're a fraction of the price.
I've had my head turned away from expensive eau de parfums by PHLUR's Hair & Body Fragrance Mists – viral, Instagrammable bottles of mostly gourmand or skin scents – and they're now one of my favourite ways to wear scent, with prices starting from £25 for 88.7ml bottles. My current favourite is the new Beach Skin, with Vanilla Nectar coming in at a close second – and if you're looking for an irresistible new scent for summer, I think these are well worth sniffing out.
First – and most importantly – they smell really lovely. Beach Skin falls under one of my favourite types of perfume: a little bit sweet, a little bit salty, a little bit musky, reminiscent of warm sea-sprayed skin, sun cream and sand between your toes. If you're familiar with Maison Margiela Replica Beach Walk (currently reduced to £52.70 for a 30ml bottle), which I also love, it's very similar – but costs a lot less. PHLUR's Beach Skin even got a couple of "you smell nice" compliments from my boyfriend, which rarely happens.
Smaller bottles of Beach Skin are currently unavailable online, but the supersized 236.5ml bottle, which I have, are priced at £38.
PHLUR's Vanilla Nectar, meanwhile, is much fruitier, with notes of papaya, apricot, peach blossom and honeyed amber, yet still with the 'skin-like' base notes that the brand does so well.
Another plus of using these PHLUR body mists is that you don't have to be especially precious about them. The bottles are plastic and so can be easily flung into a handbag or beach bag, and because they're cheaper then traditional EDTs or EDPs, I don't feel like I need to 'save them for best'. I currently have Beach Skin on my desk and spritz it on multiple times a day, whenever I need a perfume pick-me-up.
The down side to using body mists over 'traditional' perfumes, however, is that the scent is much lighter, and therefore won't last as long on the skin, hair or clothes. More regular top-ups will be necessary, so you might find that you get through your big bottle quicker than expected – but for the price, the fragrance and the mini moment of joy it brings me, I think it's worth it. If you like a lightweight, beachy summer scent, this totally gets my vote.
For something similar to PHLUR Beach Skin but with a bit more staying power, you could try Jo Malone London's new Beach Blossom Cologne, £86, or the cult classic Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraîche Skinscent, which currently has 25% and is down to £43.50.
Sol de Janeiro's body mists are also super-popular; you can try four of them for £26.60 in this Limited Edition Cheirosa Hair & Body Perfume Mist Discovery Set.

Shoppers call £30 Calvin Klein scent a 'vanilla lover's dream' that 'lasts all day'
'The scent is a lovely and subtle (not overpowering) balance of vanilla, and lasts a long time when I use it on my clothes and hair' Vanilla has long been one of the most timeless fragrance notes, loved for its warmth and sensuality that feels just as right for everyday wear as it does for a night out. One popular perfume is Calvin Klein's Nude Vanilla Body Mist, which shoppers are calling a 'dream for vanilla fans.' This fragrance, available for £30 via LookFantastic, Boots and Calvin Klein directly, is described as a 'sensual' mix of rich vanilla, musk accord and amber woods, giving it a warming vibe. The lightweight mist can also be spritzed onto hair, leaving locks smelling fresh and sexy throughout the day. Ideal for slipping into a handbag, it's perfect for top-ups on the go or for layering with other fragrances. Vanilla, in particular, pairs beautifully with spicy notes like cinnamon and floral accords such as jasmine and white musk - which you'll find as a base in bestselling perfumes like YSL Black Opium (£78, Boots) and Gucci's Flora Gorgeous Jasmine (£59.99, The Perfume Shop). 47 Skin's 'life-changing' skincare products for spot-prone teens are now 10% off Lisa Snowdon loves this hair serum that's 'must have for hair loss' now 20% off There are plenty more vanilla options to consider. One of my current favourites is Phlur's Vanilla Nectar (£25, Space NK), which opens with juicy papaya nectar and is grounded by smooth, creamy vanilla to soften the tropical notes and add warmth and maturity. Otherwise, Dior's Vanilla Diorama (£168) is expensive, but described as 'an exquisitely creamy vanilla mousseline, pricked with orange zests over a backdrop of bitter cocoa.' I also like Bon Parfumeur's 402, a sweet blend of vanilla, toffee, caramel, and sandalwood. Back to Calvin Klein's Nude Vanilla Body Mist, it has received plenty of great reviews via LookFantastic. One shopper said: "This is a vanilla lover's dream. I sprayed this on my hair and pulse points, and it lasted all day. The scent of vanilla and musk, which can be layered with other mists, is great. I even got compliments from strangers. "The spritzer is amazing, giving a mist, not too wide but just enough. The gorgeous packaging, lovely pink bottle complements the scent." Meanwhile, a second person remarked: "The scent is a lovely and subtle (not overpowering) balance of vanilla, and lasts a long time when I use it on my clothes and hair. Would defo recommend." It isn't all good news, though. A mixed review reads: "I'm not sure how to explain it otherwise, but as soon as I opened the lid, it smelt like I walked into a Victoria's Secret store, which isn't bad. It does have that smell of a cheaper fragrance (quite overpowering, a bit one-dimensional). "The bottle is large and a nice colour. I wouldn't reach for it daily, but maybe if I were in a rush and didn't want to waste a more expensive scent to go to the shops, I'd use it." But on a more positive note, this Calvin Klein fan said: "I enjoyed this product. It has a vanilla and musk scent. When it settles down, you can smell the musk. It lasts a while, but I like to pair it with a vanilla body cream to help make it last longer."

Glossier's ‘refreshing' hair perfume that ‘lasts so long' pulls in rave reviews
The two scents share woody notes that has one shopper insisting makes them 'identical' Glossier's hair and body spritz is pulling in rave reviews on Sephora, where the £35 spritz is being described as 'identical' to a much more expensive product. The spritz comes in two scents: Sandstone and Orange Blossom Neroli, but the former seems to be the most popular. Sandstone is a blend of sandalwood, clary sage and fresh fig leaf which gives a fairly woody end result. One shopper said that the mist is 'identical' to Jo Malone London's Wood, Sage and Sea Salt which is more more expensive at £82 for a 50ml bottle. Hair and body sprays typically lean a lot sweeter than the Glossier option, with Sol de Janeiro being one of the most popular options known for their fruity summer scents. So far the Glossier hair perfume has pulled in an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 on Sephora. 'I'm trying to cut down my alcohol intake and this 99p low-calorie drink converted me' Harrods beauty advent calendar returns after fragrance one sold out in 48 hours One shopper praised the longevity, writing: "This lasts SO LONG. Lots of compliments. Unlike anything else I own! And I love the body spritz format rather than the perfume, I feel like I can spray this all over my body and it won't be too overpowering." While another said: "Love love love the scent. It's the perfect all over spray that just clings to your hair and clothes and is so refreshing. I thought I'd be a fan of the other scent more, but this one is perfect for everyday use." One shopper found the longevity lacking, saying: "I ordered this in Sandstone. It's not a strong fragrance and the lasting power isn't great. The packaging even says to spritz liberally as the first step in your scent routine. It's herbaceous and woody, so if you like fruity florals then this one won't be for you. I do like the scent. I just wish there was more to it." It is always worth remembering that perfume mists are never intended to have the same lasting power as eau de parfums. Glossier does have Sandstone available in both a Daily Oil Wash cleanser for £28 as well as an £18 deodorant and a £28 lotion. When using the same scent in multiple products it can have a stronger impact. Another shopper was impressed by the longevity and even compared it to a much more expensive option on the high street. "Smells great and lasts a long time on clothes, but I will say if you have wood sage and sea salt from Jo Malone, you don't need this. They smell identical to me. I would buy again though when I run out."

Love Island's Toni and Billykiss can't get enough of this £25 vanilla body mist
Love Island favourites Toni and Billykiss were both spritzing the same creamy vanilla fragrance throughout the villa, and it's surprisingly affordable With the Love Island final tonight after eight weeks of drama, sun, and glam looks, the dumped Islanders are finally spilling a few of their beauty secrets and must-have products in the villa. One of our favourites, Billykiss Azeez, just shared the affordable body mist her and frontrunner Toni Laites can't get enough of. The product in question? Phlur's Vanilla Skin, priced at a purse-friendly £25. In a post-villa interview with Closer magazine, Billykiss shared that she and Toni had the same taste in fragrances, and every time she spritzed her vanilla body mist, Toni would be over asking for it too. With gourmand scents trending this year, it's no surprise this creamy vanilla mist is making waves in the Love Island villa. Featuring notes of pink pepper, lily, jasmine petals, vanilla, and sandalwood, it's a rich, warm fragrance and a grown-up take on the traditional sickly-sweet vanilla scents. Billykiss and Toni aren't the only ones who swear by this mist. One shopper raved: "I've never had so many compliments! I am obsessed with this fragrance, highly recommend for everyone! It's very long lasting and I've bought multiple bottles cause I'm obsessed. Never changing to a different scent again!! If you want to receive loads of compliments, buy this fragrance". It's clear that gourmand, sweet fragrances are Billykiss' signature. She also revealed she brought her go-to perfume, Kilian Love, Don't Be Shy, £225, and the spicy vanilla Diptyque Eau Delle, £160, into the villa with her. These fragrances definitely sit at the luxe end of the spectrum, so it's great to see that Billykiss is a fan of body mists too. Body mists have been growing in popularity this year thanks to their affordability and ability to scent-layer without breaking the bank on multiple high-end perfumes. Plus, they're ideal for summer, being light, refreshing, and easy to top up throughout the day. A few of our favourite body mists include Phlur's latest Mrs Smith Body Mist; Space NK's Caribbean Shores Body Mist; and Sol de Janeiro's Rio Radiance Body Mist.
