e-Maalkhana App launched in 6 police stations of Buxar
This innovative system is designed to modernise the management of seized items stored in maalkhanas.
Inspired by a similar initiative implemented by the Delhi Police, the e-Maalkhana App enables digital cataloguing of every seized item using unique identification codes, high-resolution photographs, associated case details and precise storage location mapping.
The app has been launched in six police stations—Itadhi, Dhansoi, Tilak Rai Ka Hata, Chakki, Bagen Gola and Vasudeva outpost of the district.
Buxar SP, Shubham Arya, said, "Items stored in the maalkhana are the property of the court and they must be produced when required.
Delays or mishandling can severely impact the delivery of justice. The e-Maalkhana app ensures that every item is traceable and its condition verifiable in real time."
Earlier, records were maintained on paper—making them vulnerable to damage, misplacement, or manipulation. Searching for a single piece of evidence could take hours, often delaying court proceedings. In some cases, evidence went missing or was intentionally hidden. This inefficient system made officers hesitant to take charge of maalkhana duties.
The SP said the district administration plans to expand the system to all 20 police stations in the district.

Pakistan launches new security operation against militants near Afghan border
Pakistani security forces have launched a 'targeted operation' against militants in a restive northwestern district bordering Afghanistan, displacing tens of thousands of residents who have fled to safer areas, officials said Tuesday (August 12, 2025). Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, are a separate group but a close ally of the Afghan Taliban, who seized power in Afghanistan in August 2021, as U.S. and NATO troops were in the final stages of their pullout from the country after 20 years of war. Many TTP leaders and fighters have found sanctuary in Afghanistan and have been living there openly since the Taliban takeover, and some have crossed the border back into Bajaur and carried out attacks. Pakistan also carried out a major operation in Bajaur against Pakistani and foreign militants in 2009, displacing hundreds of thousands of people.

Last Updated: A Bangladesh court rejected lawyer ZI Khan Panna's request to represent Sheikh Hasina, on trial for alleged crimes against humanity. A special court in Bangladesh on Tuesday turned down a senior lawyer's request to represent deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who is on trial in absentia for alleged 'crimes against humanity," prompting renewed debate over whether she is receiving a fair defence. 'The state has appointed a defence lawyer for Sheikh Hasina. This (matter) is over," said M Golam Mortuza Mozumder, chairman of the three-judge International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh (ICT-BD). 'It is up to the tribunal who would be appointed as the defence lawyer," he added, questioning why ZI Khan Panna 'will come to defend her" at this stage of the proceedings. 'Now, when the train has left the station, he came and asked the station master to arrange his boarding." Panna's application, presented by lawyer Naznin Nahar, was also rejected in a secondary request to allow him to assist the state-appointed counsel. Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal are being tried in absentia, with the tribunal earlier appointing little-known lawyer Amir Hossain to represent them both. A third accused, former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, has turned 'approver" to testify against the co-accused. Panna, a 1971 war veteran in his late 70s and chairman of the legal aid committee of the Bangladesh Bar Council, has been openly critical of the former Awami League regime but expressed his willingness to defend the 76-year-old Hasina. He is also known for criticising the current Muhammad Yunus administration for 'patronising forces" opposed to Bangladesh's 1971 independence. British journalist and rights activist David Bergman, who has been following the ICT-BD proceedings, raised concerns last week over the defence arrangements. He noted that one lawyer was appointed for two accused with 'very different interests," creating 'significant potential conflict of interest problems preventing them each from having a proper defence." Bergman also questioned the short preparation time, pointing out that Hossain only received the prosecution's evidence on June 25, which was five weeks before the trial began and has had no contact with either client. 'It is impossible for any lawyer to… devise a proper defence for both clients, particularly when the lawyer has no contact with the client(s)," he said. The ICT-BD, formed in 2010 to try wartime collaborators of Pakistan, is now hearing charges against Hasina and her aides. In a reversal, Tajul Islam, who was once a key defence lawyer for Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, is serving as the tribunal's chief prosecutor. Bergman called the development 'irony," adding, 'There may well be a much stronger word to describe this!" Last month, the tribunal charged Hasina with crimes against humanity for allegedly ordering a deadly crackdown during the 'July Uprising" led by the Students Against Discrimination (SAD) movement. The protests forced her resignation on August 5, 2024, after which she left Bangladesh aboard a military aircraft and has since been in India. Delhi police stations notified as designated places for video conference evidence
New Delhi: LG VK Saxena has given his approval to notify all police stations in the capital as "designated places" from where police officers can provide evidence to the court through video conference, Raj Niwas officials said on Tuesday. This, officials said, will ensure that police officers dealing with various cases do not have to travel and physically attend court proceedings, thereby saving a great amount of time and resources by deposing through video conference and enhancing their functioning. Earlier, the video conferencing facility for providing evidence was only available in the Delhi High Court, district courts, prisons, hospitals, the forensic science laboratory and some govt offices. "This major reform comes under the draft model rules (Nyaya Shruti) on video conferencing under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which recommended the inclusion of police stations as 'designated places' for deposition through video conference for police personnel and officers," said a Raj Niwas official. In a recent review meeting, officials said the minister directed the setting up of an adequate number of video conferencing facilities to ensure smooth functioning and proper coordination between the police and the courts. A proposal was thus prepared by the home department and sent to the LG for his approval. The move will mark a departure from the current requirement for police personnel and senior officers, including investigating officers and those who are witnesses in criminal cases and any other related officer, to be physically present in the courts for providing evidence. This will bring greater transparency and efficiency in overall police functioning, decongest the courts and provide more time to the force for policing and investigation.
