SRMIST, The Hindu to hold third webinar on multidisciplinary learning on June 10
Titled 'Beyond Boundaries: How Multidisciplinary Learning Prepares You for a Complex World', the session will dwell upon the growing relevance of integrated learning across disciplines, especially humanities and sciences. The session, which starts at 11.30 a.m., will seek to address questions pertaining to the choice of the right course or stream to balance student interests and future prospects, the kind of learning to face the fast-evolving world, and how humanities and sciences work together to shape better career and life outcomes.
The panel will include Prof. A. Vinay Kumar, Pro Vice Chancellor, Science and Humanities, Law and Management, SRMIST, and Aruna Sankaranarayanan, author and visiting faculty, School of Education, Azim Premji University, Bengaluru. The session will be moderated by Radhika Santhanam, Senior Assistant Editor, The Hindu.

HT Syndication Kattankulathur, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 11: 'No matter the heights you achieve, let honesty be the cornerstone of your success,' emphasised Dr. Narayanan, Chairman, ISRO, during the prestigious 21st Convocation Ceremony held at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, Chennai. Dr. V. Narayanan, Chairman of ISRO and Secretary, Department of Space, Government of India, along with Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, were conferred the prestigious Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) in recognition of their outstanding contributions to science and technology. Presiding over the ceremony was Dr. T.R. Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor of SRMIST, who highlighted the institute's commitment to academic excellence and societal impact. This year, a total of 9,769 degrees were awarded, comprising 7,586 males and 2,183 females. The distribution includes 8,994 undergraduate degrees (7,071 males and 1,923 females), 564 postgraduate degrees (423 males and 141 females), and 211 doctoral degrees (92 males and 119 females). Additionally, 157 rank medallists were honoured, including 93 first-rank holders, 39 second-rank holders, and 25 third-rank holders, celebrating academic excellence across disciplines. The event was graced by Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, Governor of Maharashtra, the Chief Guest for the occasion and he delivered an inspiring Convocation address to a full house of graduates, faculty, and dignitaries. In his address, he stated, "Sincerity, hard work, and patience are the true keys to success. Challenges come to all, but it is overcoming them with determination that shapes your future. Embrace lifelong learning, remain humble, and always remember the sacrifices of your parents. With this spirit, the youth will lead India to become the world's foremost economic power by 2047." Dr. V. Narayanan, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation, Government of India said, "In the early days, with crucial support such as the small rocket donated by the USA, India's space program took its first steps. Since then, India has made a giant leap in aerospace technology and a giant stride in defence technology, evolving into one of the world's leading nations. This remarkable progress reflects the unwavering vision and dedication of our scientists and engineers, propelling India toward a future defined by technological strength and national security." The Annual Report of the Institution was presented by the Vice Chancellor, who said, "Women represent 56.4% of our Ph.D. scholars and 44.5% of rank holders, reflecting our commitment to gender equity and inclusive excellence." He also emphasised, "Uplift others and lead with empathy. Carry forward the values of integrity, curiosity, resilience, and compassion. You are not just graduates, but torchbearers of inclusion, builders of equity, and catalysts of global change." In recognition of their extraordinary contributions to science and national development, SRMIST conferred the prestigious Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science ( upon Dr. V. ISRO to launch 6,500-kg sat soon
Chennai: Aftermarking a humble beginning in Indian space programme with a tiny rocket supplied by the United States, ISRO would launch a 6,500-kg communication satellite built by the USA in the next couple of months, Chairman of the space agency V Narayanan said on Sunday. Following the historic launch of NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission onboard a GSLV-F16 rocket on July 30, ISRO would be launching another satellite for the United States, he said at an event near Chennai. Narayanan, who is also the secretary, Department of Space, was presented with the honorary degree, Doctor of Science, by the Governor of Maharashtra C P Radhakrishnan, during the 21st Convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology at Kattankulathur near Chennai. In his acceptance speech, Narayanan recalled that the ISRO was set up in 1963 and the country was 6-7 years behind advanced countries then. In the same year, a tiny rocket was donated by the United States marking the beginnings of the Indian Space Programme. "It was on November 21, 1963," he said. In 1975, through satellite data given by the US, ISRO demonstrated 'mass communication' by keeping 2,400 television sets across 2,400 villages of 6 Indian states, he said. "From that (kind of humble beginnings), the 30th of July was a historical day for Indian space programme. We have launched the NISAR satellite. The costliest satellite ever built in the world. The L Band SAR payload from the USA and S Band payload provided by ISRO. The satellite was placed in orbit precisely by Indian launcher (GSLV). And today, we are shoulder to shoulder with advanced countries," Narayanan remarked. He noted that the team from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) appreciated their ISRO counterparts for the precision launch of the GSLV-F16/NISAR Mission. "In another couple of months, a country which received a tiny rocket from the United States, is going to launch a 6,500 kg communication satellite built by the America using our own launcher from Indian soil. What a significant growth it is," he noted. From a country which did not have satellite technology 50 years back, ISRO has, to date, launched 433 satellites of 34 countries using its own launch vehicles, he said.
